      Amazing ! It’s been a very long time I had this piece in mind. But it was sooo difficult to play it well on the theremin and make it sound elegant - and on pitch of course… I couldn’t have achieved this some years ago. Finally I just reconsidered this last weekend as I was looking for a piece to play on theremin and piano. It was fun also to make the video-editing: since my weird rendition of Halvorsen’s Passacaglia I’ve never been through such a big work... And yes, I played the piano as well - quite challenging as I’m only a side-hobbyist of this instrument…
      I’m glad you liked it anyway ;)

    I'll be honest, when I saw the title I thought "no way"! I didn't believe those triplets would be feasible or sound clear and accurate enough on the theremin, and I feared you'd just have to simplify the music. But sure enough you've done an astonishing job. The instrument's versatility in your hands is simply stunning.

      Learning to play a therimin is the same as learning any other instrument

    • @VioletHorrorshow
      @VioletHorrorshow 5 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      Dr. Siracha -Theremin is probably the only instrument (including voice) I know that you don’t touch to produce a sound. That makes it a little bit harder, in my opinion, to feel how your movements affect the sound.
      When I play, I can feel how my hand moves on a vibrating string to create higher or lower pitch (by feeling string tension). I can feel larger vibrations against my fingers when I bow louder. I can feel resistance, stops, starts, bounces, smoothness, etc. Touch helps a lot when playing an instrument, and going without when making music it takes a little of our intuition away. Theremin must rely a good deal on having a good ear.
      If you mean getting good at an instrument requires the same kind of work ethic across the board... I guess. Same with a lot of skills.

      Sarah Rachel th-cam.com/video/LYSGTkNtazo/w-d-xo.html it was harder before this girl created the 13 hand positions I think it is. You just have to tune it to your surroundings and have muscle memory so it is hard but when you get used to it I imagine learning it is like learning any other instrument. The hand positions are octaves.

    • @penguinexpress12
      @penguinexpress12 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There are no frets on a cello or positions for your tongue on the clarinet. Every instrument has these muscle memory traits needed to be learned.

    J'étais vite fait passé sur cette vidéo... et passé à côté tout compte fait ! Déjà l'interprêtation au piano est superbe, mais la matrise du Theremin est incroyable. Gregoire Blanc, vous êtes un véritable virtuose, j'engage toutes les personnes qui ont osées mettre un "j'aime pas" à essayer de jouer du Theremin. La critique est facile, mais l'art est difficile. Et arriver à un tel niveau de virtuosité dans un art aussi compliqué et casse-gueule que le Theremin, ça touche au prodigieux. Et je le pense sincèrement.

    This brought tears to my eyes, especially when you hit the really high notes on the theremin, it's like someone singing. The theramin would be great to emulate the amazing voice in Pink Floyd's 'The great gig in the sky'.

    Growing up in Miami, the local Museum of Science sponsored a television series called "Star Gazer". Hosted by the planetarium director, Jack Horkheimer, this was the theme song. I have to believe that Jack would have truly loved this performance on the theremin.

      Yes, I used to watch Jack every week night before Channel 2 would sign off as a youngster here in Broward County, Florida. After his 5 minute spiel, we all would go out to walk the dog & see whether or not we could spy anything that he was describing for the week. Hearing Debussy takes me straight back to those late 1970's to mid 1980's nights.

    Arabesque is a beautiful piece, and the theremin really brings out that melody for what it's really worth. The tones are just slightly hazy, giving it the aura of warmth and fluidity. Amazing arrangement with the piano too!

    Love the freedom but also mindful management of your rubato on the piano and the graceful phrasing on the theremin, the vibrato is beautifully done, the portamenti are charming, the management of dynamics is so classy, that’s proper cantabile. Bravo : )

    Hey Greetings from Baton Rouge, LA. I am a music ed student who struggles to play French Horn. TH-cam Algorithm brought me to your videos, before then I had no Idea what a Theremin was. I just want to say that I respect, appreciate and deeply admire the work you do and the content that give away so freely. It's inspiring for me and I hope you can continue to inspire people to find their "voice." Thank you.

    C'est très très fort! Tant au piano qu'au thérémin. Beau également et sans dénaturer Debussy. Nul doute que si Debussy vous entendait, il composerait sur le champ une oeuvre pour cet instrument. Bravo!

    I love Debussy, especially this piece. I have always loved the sounds of the string instruments, playing a couple of them myself. The theremin has a sound that is incredibly similar, yet with its own unique twist on it. I saw your video with the musical saw, and I feel like that is the perfect crossover point between the two worlds. Now I want to learn the musical saw!
