  • The main theme of "Schindler's List" composed by John Williams is beyond famous and has already been covered hundred of times. I have often been asked to perform this piece and finally, here is my rendition for #theremin and piano.

A theremin is like a children’s recorder or a penny whistle. You hear it played poorly so often you write it off as a gimmicky instrument. When you hear a person who has taken the time to master it though, it’s nearly unbelievable.

If you're into recorder check out some of Telemann's work. He was composing pieces centred around entwined recorder & flute leads while the recorder was "going out of fashion". Whenever I listen it feels like a lament for the recorder, for which I only knew of as the three buns instrument until I heard Czardas performed on one. Who knew vibrato was possible on a recorder eh

Up to now I have always thought that the theme from SCHINDLER’S LIST could not be played effectively on the theremin because the intervals were too big to play with the same legato elegance we hear on the violin (for which the melody was written). “L’incroyable Grégoire Blanc” has proved me wrong! This is a beautiful performance and an excellent piano arrangement.

My best advice to developing instrumental skills and keeping motivated is to firstly find an instrument that you're attracted to or feel compelled to learn, and once you've managed to get that instrument, I would suggest regular lessons/classes to keep you committed and motivated during the tougher or less inspiring periods (often the first 6 months, so I've experienced) and maybe connecting with a community of people who play the same instrument to help motivate each other. I was in your situation- Jan 2018, a 20 year-old who had an absolute love for music and always wanted to learn an instrument. After getting roped in to buy a Violin for £120 on Amazon (in their Suggested for You section), I started learning and it was only when I decided to take lessons from May 2018 that I kept on track and stayed committed to lessons when I didnt even feel like it. A little over 2 years later, still playing violin (now a much better violin than the Amazon violin) and now just starting to work on my Grade 5 pieces. All thanks to finding lessons and keeping in touch with a community of other musicians to keep motivated. Nowadays, I love to practice and it is still often trickier learning new things and new techniques, but the motivation has stuck with me when I remind myself where I started. Hope this helps give some insight into what helped me and how it could help others 🙏🏻

Thank you for saying this. I agree. The similar yet different quality to the human voice can put theremin music in the "uncanny valley" and renders it deeply touching.
My late father loved the theme from "Once Upon a Time in the West..." and I loved that I found him a theremin performance of it, not long before he passed. I almost can't listen to it now.
This evocative theme is another that's perfect for the instrument.

This is simply devine. To be honest I wasn't sure the Theremin was going to be up for the task but not only was it up to the task it surpassed it. Bravo.

I have heard the sounds in some of those rare unique artists songs never knew what in the world the instrument was until I finally found out that it was a Theremin.. nothing I’ve ever even heard of or known about and now all I can do is watch and so desperately wish to own one, each piece I hear played by someone is sending me into a place in my mind I always want to embrace. I’m melting over this instrument and the amazing people who can play them😩❤️

So I just watched this again, you really have a gift for the Theremin. Even though you're not physically touching anything but air, it's almost as if you're actually pulling strings that we cannot see other than yourself. That is what makes this awesome.
