I liked the overview of the fold method a lot. Could imagine a whole "tutorial" being this style without going into detail on each step, but rather giving an idea of how it works and whicht techniques were involved. Great vid, keep it up 😍😍
Every time I see a video like this it makes me feel like there are 5000 ways to do anything in Blender, and it makes me despair of having any kind of deep understanding of it.
this is the best tutorial i ever came across, you went straight to the point this educated me more then a udemy course i opted for a month earlier🙂 You are the best This is just another random comment for you but you have no idea what master piece you have made
I am learning wonderful things from this. My fave thing has to be the constraint. I bet i could use this to make it so limbs and joints can't go beyond a certain point to keep them from breaking...
I needed to make such an animated umbrella and did know it won't be easy. I gave up. I really appreciate this tutorial, for making it easy, but also for showing a bunch of amazing features I will be using in the future. Thanks. Subscribed.
supercool! tip: just selecting the vertex and then Ctrl+H -> "Hook To New Object" will auto create the Empty for you at exactly the proper position. ;-)
Great tutorial, Thank you, I tried to do the final step as well, but I could not get the displacement modified at the end right, would be great if you could still elaborate on that!
Thanks you for the great tutorial. this is the second time you have come up with a tutorial fixing something that i am stuck on in a different project. ps i would love a bit more in depth tutorial on how to make folds. thanks !
Hi, can you please send the animation , I'm stuck somewhere or the blender version you have used for this animation ? I need this urgently for a project ?
This was a great tutorial, even years later. If you're open to giving advice I'd like to ask for it from you. I've been stuck with my version of the design in that I am unable to unwrap the UV as is (understandably) so that I can paint the underside a special texture. Applying the modifiers will unfortunately not allow the Empty to manipulate the umbrella mesh.
hi .. like this really great way to use blender for umbrella open/close animation without armatures. Simple and easy. However, there's one problem .. you cannot add "image texture" (material) to the umbrella ?:(. Only can change color .. unless perhaps you have a some tips how to do it in 2.92 ?? given this is using just vertex, I suspect not possible .. your advise please.
Hey ! thanks a lot for everything ! do you know how it is possible to apply any texture on a vertex ? I'm triing to apply a fabric on the umbrella but it doesn't seem to be affected... thanks a lot
Thanks for the comment! Have you tried using a displacement modifier with a texture? Here's a tutorial for that: th-cam.com/video/lVPyPwcxt7Q/w-d-xo.html
If I understand your question right, that would mean you'd have to use a cloth simulation to have those kind of "realistic" gravity interactions. My intention here was to keep it lightweight, as simulations always mean a lot of calculating time, resimulating, cache files taking up space etc.
Sooo I know this tutorial has been out for quite some time already, but hopefully someone out here can help me I followed the tutorial, it's working super well, BUT I can't seem to figure out how to export it for a game engine without messing up the rig. When I apply my modifiers, it breaks the rig and the controls only affect one part of the umbrella. I have a VERY basic understanding of animation and I can't seem to figure it out. I need to have the rig affecting the mesh that I can unwrap and export for Unreal. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate immensely
best driver tutorial ive ever seen

Thanks, that's good to know! I'll definitely try including more of these overviews in the future :)
some really solid techniques there!! amazing work :)

Wow, thank you so much! It means a lot to know that my videos help people make stuff :)
@@SketchesForHumanity yes just perfect

The best easiest tutorial I have ever seen
I needed to make such an animated umbrella and did know it won't be easy. I gave up.
I really appreciate this tutorial, for making it easy, but also for showing a bunch of amazing features I will be using in the future.

im doing an umbrella in maya, but i wanted to see how it could be done in blender, and thats crazy, you did such a good method, really nice job!
supercool! tip: just selecting the vertex and then Ctrl+H -> "Hook To New Object" will auto create the Empty for you at exactly the proper position. ;-)
Really like your tutorials! Pretty clear even when tackling complex topics!
Realy amazing tutorial. I find out how many possibilities are hidden in Blender!
That heightmap solution is brilliant nice work !
Great tutorial, Thank you, I tried to do the final step as well, but I could not get the displacement modified at the end right, would be great if you could still elaborate on that!
My mind is so blown right now.. This is SO helpful, thank you so much!
You will be a well known.blender tutor
Just don't stop. Wishing you best of luck
Thank you, that's an amazing compliment :)
Really great tutorial 🙌
Excellent tutorial. Thanks for easy to follow steps.

Thanks, great to hear that I've been able to help! :)
what a crazy lad ! very nice!
but u forget to add a button and shaft that moves up and down with support sticks
Absolutely brilliant! What a great technique! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. THANK YOU! Dg
Great Intro into constraints
Love your tutorials!! Grate job! Thank you! And the end of your every tutorial is also amazing 👍🏻👍🏻
Really like your tutorials! thank you
this is Amazing an tutorial about the drivers in blender
Great closing music! Love it!!!!
Thank you so much!
That was VERY infomative, thank you! Subscribed.
Thanks, I'm glad you found this useful! :)
Nice job. It would be interesting to parent this to a rigged metal arms of a complete umbrella model.
I AM YOUR 300 LIKER, WOW I FEEL GREAT , THANKS FOR YOUR ANIMATION
I was wondering if this would be easily done with an armature. This way is nice, but you can't export the animation to game engine.
You ever find a way to make this work?
doesnt have uv's. how do i get uv's?
going into the negative when rotating and causing a sudden flip is a feature of umbrellas irl. I don't think I'll add the constraint.
Update: found it's possible to retain flip with constraints.
Thanks for the tutorial.
You're most welcome, and thanks for the comment!
Very very usefull one for me.. your teaching is awesome..Keep doing
This is Amazing!
Heyy can you please teach me how to do the last part ????

you couldve added another shape key 1:12
not critisizing just another method
idk if it works tho im noob
Hard in the expression technique, i can do that no issue but the question is how to think like that for doing new models
hey how can i add textures to the umbrella?
awesome

THE MODIFIER BENDER
by the way I use focusrite clarett 8pre in my studio :)
Nice! The Clarett has served me well so far, though with some mics I really have to push the amp to get the signal loud enough..
@@SketchesForHumanity Especially with dynamic mics, right? :)

I've started learning Blender a while ago, quite fun. Are you able to give this umbrella weight, or rather, have it interact with gravity when open?
If I understand your question right, that would mean you'd have to use a cloth simulation to have those kind of "realistic" gravity interactions. My intention here was to keep it lightweight, as simulations always mean a lot of calculating time, resimulating, cache files taking up space etc.

Hi can you make the spear of Osiris from the Mummy 2 Movie.
new susbscriber. and it was a great video!!..
Nice
Hello, do u have that model online?
No I don't, sorry :/
@@SketchesForHumanity thank u :)
very bad tutorial, the last part of curve the cloth edge skipped, very very dad .... not expect such kind of behavior
