I'm so grateful to have found your channel Jan, I'm visiting Akureyri in a few weeks to hopefully do some aurora chasing, so this video couldn't have come out at a better time! Thanks :D
Good tips. Glad you started with the weather. None of the other numbers matter if it’s cloudy. We were in Iceland in 2017 where a G4 happened and the KP was 9 for three consecutive days and it was also 100% socked in overcast. As you mention, it is very, very fickle. It can appear when the numbers don’t seem favorable and it may make a dazzling, but very short show when the numbers are high. The hunt though, is often equal to the “kill” in this case. We’ve discovered parts of Iceland on unsuccessful Aurora hunts that we never would have found otherwise. Keep up the good work,!
thanks Steve! I guess it's a lot about luck, I've had days when forecast was promising clear skies but then clouds or sea fog rolled over or the other way around not expecting anything because it was cloudy and then just walking to the car to get something, looking up and there was an insane aurora happening right between the clouds in a short window...And what you mention about discovering new places, I think that's so cool. Probably my favourite way to find new places when not even planning on it.
Sorry I’ve been absent but I’m back & catching up on Icelandic videos. I booked a trip to see Northern Lights in January but in true Kate style got horrendously car sick & didn’t even make it out of Reykjavik! But that just means I have to come back 😅 any hints are always welcome.
Great to see you back Kate! Oh no, i'm sorry to hear that! Just skip the guided tour next time, it's so easy to do it on your own and trust me, you will most likely have a better experience :)
Yes, please make a video on ho to shoot nice pictures with a phone (iOS and Android) , cheaper point and shoot camera's ( lumix, Sony, etc..) and how you shoot them on your professional camera. Would help tremendously for Aurora enthusiasts and those coming to Iceland to take pictures. Maybe offer a photography tour in Iceland for amateurs and pros? 💡😊
Done, it's on the long ,,shot list'' now 😅 great timing with your comment as I just got myself a point and shoot camera, too haha! I thought about the aurora photo tours, but it is in my opinion too complicated as it all depends on the weather. However, I have some ideas so there might be some kind of tours in the future :)
Is there a worst month to see the northern lights? Aside from the summer months that are mostly light, what month that could have the northern lights would be the worst time to see them
Simply the best channel to get important information about traveling or living in Iceland. Keep up the good work!
this really means a lot! thank you so much!

thank you! This year has been insane so far so fingers crossed for some clear sky during your visit!
謝謝您分享的訊息 真的非常實用 🙏😊
Definitely would enjoy a tutorial on how you shoot them, thanks!
Thanks for letting me know! I'm adding it to the list :)
