@Hulumoon I loved the running away from the explosions and water in this trailer back then. Sadly this running away part never made it into the final game. Hideo Kojima said, the reason it was taken out was because it was apparently not a fun gameplays mechanic. But I to this day wanted this to be in the final release.

This game continues to age like a fine wine. 20 years have passed and it still holds up well. It truly was ground-breaking at the time of its release. I remember having this exact same preview video on a VHS tape which came with a PlayStation magazine. When I watched it for the first time I was blown away by it. The attention to detail is stunning (shadow catching the enemy's attention, rain bouncing of the character, sound effects, music). It pushed what a game could be and its influence is still evident even now (The Arkham games, Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed).
Well this game you listed may not be influenced by metal gear and the batman games always meant to have rain but due to hardware limitations regarding rocksteady adding to much focus to the graphics and the overall exploration and story means that they didn’t fulfil they dreams to add rain onto asylum thankfully the remaster fixes that issue.

Raiden was a better fit for this game. His backstory is actually very competent and if Snake would've stayed the main character, the game would just be another MGS1 clone in the way MGS2 already kind of was, but even more so.

MGS1 Came out in 1998: Everyone had about a dozen or two pixels on their face. Only 2 years later and now look at them ushering in a new area of computer graphics. Let alone the huge advancements in the stealth genre every game has taken.
The graphics gap between PS1 and PS2 gotta be the biggest in history. We went from having a polygon head Snake to an ultra realistic (for 2001 standards) Snake. Imagine if the difference between PS2, PS3, PS4 and PS5 kept the same improvements. RDR2 or The Last of Us 2 could probably have been PS3 titles, I can't even imagine what we would have today.
The thing is that PS4 wasn´t really that powerful over PS3. As the CPU bottlenecks the GPU and the GPU was powerful as GTX 750 Ti. If the PS4 when came out in 2013 was powerful as GTX 780 Ti we could had a real generation leap over PS3. Just look out that the first RDR have better gunplay and cover mechanics than RDR 2. While the first RDR had to deal with storage limitations of DVDs from Xbox 360 which had to limit the scope of the game and textures quality
During that time while everyone was watching this trailer for the first time over 20 years they was thinking yeah the cutscene look nice but probably didn’t think that the gameplay graphics are the same graphics they use as the cutscenes.
Never forget Kojima hid the fact that all we were seeing was the tutorial stage lmao! Raiden's reveal was truly one of the best kept secrets in gaming.
I love this series and watching this back in the day was mesmerizing to say the least but now that I’m 36 years old I find it pretty funny that I’m not sure who has worse aim the Russian commandos or stormtroopers lol
What do you guys make of the "Tanker Escape" etc not being included in the finished game?? I'm not sure how I feel about it gameplay-wise, although I did appreciate how, late-game, when Solid Snake is flashing back to the actual event, they show the escape as well as him blasting away with a Famas(?) in the pantry, and it adds to the effect that the Tanker you played might have not been the 'actual' event, but some kind of VR simulation...a true meta sandwich.
This fooled me back then... After so much hype I was finally able to buy a Ps2 and after the intro u couldn't play as Snake, but the whole trailer is about him.
@Bruce S I just started mgs2 on my ps2 and these graphics definitely look better. Not by a massive margin but they are definitely tailored for this trailer using the ps2 probably but better than the actual game

Okay, the actual game wouldn't ever play out anything close to this, you'd never have gunfights like these (probably not even an actual pistol most of the time). Even then they should pretty much all the highlights of the prologue plus some jawdropping cut content. You still got to hand it to them though. I wonder if I would even have minded Raiden so much if Kojima had been honest about him from the beginning, and not thrown in this amazing Snake trailer he'd never live up to, because Kojima seemed to try to make as much of a fool of Raiden as possible.

The game was not released until late 2001. Aspects of the 2nd half were altered to remove the full assault on New York from Arsenal Gear. Even Raiden and Solidus do fight in the city the scale of the battle was reduced. No footage of Ocelot and the Metal Gear was shown in New York.

@TheKlimekpl Actually, at 7:23, that was intended to be part of the game, when Ocelot detonated the Semtex you had to escape. But they decided to cut it as though it sounds impressive it wasn't as fun to play. There was also extended scenes at the end of New York being destroyed, but they were also cut due to it being released around the time of 9/11

I'll still never forgive Kojima for the ridiculous bait and switch he pulled here. Making it seem like it would be a new game with Solid Snake and even going so far as to start the game out with him..............and then giving us lame Raiden. A "fill-in" that was there to "represent ourselves". Mind you, this was my first brush with Kojima _COMPLETELY_ overthinking things. It's like "Dude. It's escapist entertainment. We don't _want_ to play characters that reflect ourselves. We want to be Arnold Schwarzenegger!". If you were around for the release of this game you'll remember that the backlash due to Raiden and the lack of a controllable Snake was HUUUUUUGE. Especially in light of this being _the_ flagship title for the PS2 and a major factor in many people's purchase of a PS2. I think the lengths he went to hide the lack of a playable Snake made it way worse. It almost felt like he was doing it just to troll his own fans which, to be fair, wouldn't be very out of character for him.

Originally, they were going to include the FAMAS, but they didn't.
Seems they just used the same clips as an Easter egg or whatever.

MGS 2 hype was real. A huge leap in graphics and music. Very promising opening remix of the original MGS theme as well. That really stood out for me.

The game was not released until late 2001. Aspects of the 2nd half were altered to remove the full assault on New York from Arsenal Gear. Even Raiden and Solidus do fight in the city the scale of the battle was reduced. No footage of Ocelot and the Metal Gear was shown in New York.

man i remember when thisfirst came out...i bought an opm magazine just for the video demo on the disc...AND! i correctly pointed out way back before they announced solidus that something was up with that snake picture cuz right before it cuts away, his eye lights up red.
@TheKlimekpl Actually, at 7:23, that was intended to be part of the game, when Ocelot detonated the Semtex you had to escape. But they decided to cut it as though it sounds impressive it wasn't as fun to play. There was also extended scenes at the end of New York being destroyed, but they were also cut due to it being released around the time of 9/11

@@Soki7000The first one is still to this day my favorite game of all time, so that would probably make this my most hyped game of all time. I'll still never forgive Kojima for the ridiculous bait and switch he pulled here. Making it seem like it would be a new game with Solid Snake and even going so far as to start the game out with him..............and then giving us lame Raiden. A "fill-in" that was there to "represent ourselves". Mind you, this was my first brush with Kojima _COMPLETELY_ overthinking things. It's like "Dude. It's escapist entertainment. We don't _want_ to play characters that reflect ourselves. We want to be Arnold Schwarzenegger!". If you were around for the release of this game you'll remember that the backlash due to Raiden and the lack of a controllable Snake was HUUUUUUGE. Especially in light of this being _the_ flagship title for the PS2 and a major factor in many people's purchase of a PS2. I think the lengths he went to hide the lack of a playable Snake made it way worse. It almost felt like he was doing it just to troll his own fans which, to be fair, wouldn't be very out of character for him.

Kojima is so goated that he created a game in 2001 that had such good graphics like the games in 2005-2007. The games were ahead of their time
You have to remember this trailer came out months before the PS2 was released in the US. If you were a gamer playing on your PS1 and you watched this and it didn’t make your junk move a little bit...
