For anyone having trouble getting this quest to trigger, even when your settlement is not under attack, if you warp in your ship (not freighter) you will eventually (2-3 warps) get a radio message from your settlement that they are under attack and need you to return. This will kick off the questline.
I didn't watch the whole video but I figured I'd share in case others missed it. You can remove the Minotaur AI Pilot after installing the Sentinel Hardframe Body. It seems to still work without it. Having 3 booster upgrades is nice too. The left arm gives a bonus if its next to the laser and any upgrades, and the legs give a bonus if they are next to the engine and booster upgrades.
You can start this mission by talking to Tethys first in the anomaly. Then you will get a message to your ship from your settlement. You get a little more of the story that way.
I spoke to him and evidently picked the wrong option as now he doesn't want to talk to me. So I'm just stuck waiting until my settlement is attacked. Getting a bit bored waiting.
its worth mentioning that when you upgrade your Minotaur exocraft, you can NO longer change the color on it. your stuck with the blue and white (hoping they patch this)
Holy crap I missed this video! I have taken the last year or so off of No Man's Sky and am back with the Endurance update. Ohmygod so much new stuff since I played last, and we have another big annual patch coming too! Can't wait to do this mission and get the mech. THANK YOU for your hard work my dude!
Great vid as always man. Am I the only one that is tired of the little drone running away from you when you want/need to talk to the drone? Discovered that you just have to wait and it will come back to you so you can talk to it.

So I had a hard time figuring out how to even get the "A Trace of Metal" mission, and that part seems to be missing from everyone that I've watched videos. You have to install the Minotaur AI Pilot then warp to a new system.
@@omarbaasz You have to jump a time or two. I actually had one of my saves start it after a couple of jumps without the AI installed. It's seems a bit random and you may not need the AI installed, but it sure does come in handy when fighting that first fight at the settlement.
@@norezplaysgames yeah I play on normal difficulty and have a fully upgraded multitool so that ain't an issue 😅, but I will try it out, make like 2 more jumps, I hope it works. Thanks for the reply man!
I lost the location of the Sentinel Walker at 8:50, so I cannot get a Pritine Brain. The location mark disappeared. How can I find the Sentinel Walker again??

yeah, the new mech is pretty cool. I just wish we coulda kept the colour customization. Kinda lame that we'll all be running around with the exact same mech now
Hmm, @6:23, You do mean another star system not galaxy correct? Also, it seems that the parts of the mech are not always in the same order. Survivor Bob also put out a video on this and his order was Arm, Legs, Arm, then torso.

Im stuck on this mission. I destroy all 3 surrounding piller thingys and the sentinels. But dont get that option to extract the arm or whatever or wipe memory part. Just lets me acess archives..disble sentinels or get a new weapon. But doing those dont progress the mission. No tick
I guess most of the players are dealing with some kind of problem. I wasn't able to get the sentinel hardframe for the legs part, now I don't know where to find sentinel mechs anymore. I can't proceed with the mission...
FYI, when you equip the parts on your minotaur, you won't be able to change its color (it'll be stuck on blue). It's been two years since this video was posted and they haven't fixed that.
Heads up, when you get the first quest is says your settlement is under attack and you can teleport from any portal terminus, doing this caused my game to crash every time I tried so i had to manually fly. Just in case anyone else has this issue that worked just fine
Somehow I didn't realize I could even get an Exosuit mech in the first place So when I stumbled onto this quest, got the drone, and then it helped me build a mech, needless to say I was pretty stunned.
@@A_Pl4typus been floating in space for a while no contact, I have the mission and it just stays in my bottom right of screen even if I switch to a different mission, when I show up to save the settlement like it tells me to I get there and my settlers are running around but no sentinels, I check the settlement report and it also says 0% sentinel activity
UPDATE** I abandoned the mission to restart it and it worked, go into your log and hold down whatever you have to hold down on your gaming platform to remove things
I'd like to get all this stuff, but I can't even start the missions. I go to my settlement to find the music pumping and everyone running for cover, but there's no attack. 😐
Nice work as usual Jason! Had an attack today when I had gotten on briefly to check out the sentinels and didn’t seem to get the mission. I’m thinking because I’m a little behind on my settlement possibly. Going to get back on tonight or tomorrow and try again! Many thanks for these videos my man. 👌
My settlement is S class and has the maximum number of buildings built and everything and I'm not getting the mission either even after a couple of sentinel attacks now. Seems like it's bugged out and not triggering for a lot of people and it has nothing to do with how far along you are on your settlement.
It has nothing to do with settlement progress. I just got my settlement today and have only built my office and a landing pad but I’ve got the drone already. You need to hop in your ship and warp somewhere. For me it took 2. After my second warp I got a broadcast from my settlement saying they were attacked. The quest starts after that
I found out if you dont talk to any NPC's and just talk to Tethys again, he will give you the flare. Then you can go around and talk to all the NPC's to get parts and talk to tethys again, and he will give you a second flare. So you can walk away from that step with two flares.
How do you paint inside your freighter with an x box controller I can't work it out which buttons do you use. And also can you change the black main colour on a freighter to a different colour mine will.not change colour
I have an issue with my mech. I have the hardframe body but it got damaged in battle. To repair it I need another radiant brain, which I'm 99% sure cannot be acquired outside of the Trace of Metal mission line
So, my quest line halts at hesperis as there's no dialogue option apart from hand on shoulder.. also polo only offers atlas and black hole coordinates.. :( I'm glitches out aren't I....

@@razzblade3485 I had probably the same problem. If you get the warning about the settlement is under fire, go first to outer space. You get in your spaceship a incomming message. Answer that first en then go to your setllement.

I was expecting leaping in and and taking care of business as the mech's final form. Not wandering around aimlessly and barely shooting at enemies. There's also an adjacency highlight for the head and AI unit but I have no idea what if anything that does.

I am currently laughing so hard at myself, I had that undamaged thingy in my inventory for a week and could not discard it, I had no idea what it was for and the game never told me to go to the anomaly. I did not bother to google it as I thought it was a bug that I could not delete it and it seemed like random trash loot. :D
I had some minor problems doing this one. The story would hang. I'd have to reload and then it would move on to the next step and hang again. Once I reloaded, the story would continue. This slowed me down a bit.
When I did this quest I kept getting this weird bug (I think?) where my drone would just continually fly in one direction fast whenever I needed to talk to them
Did you know capital freighters warp into systoms i just firgured this out a resurgent A class freighter just warped into my systom after I my B class now I dont have the money for it, but at least ut makes my freighter look amazing since the A class resergents flert is around mine
Is anybody having a problem with this quest after the update I have to redo this quest all over again when I've already done this class and now when you get the first two parts from the people in the anomaly and I'd tell you to go talk to Polo and tell him what's going on well there's nothing in his dialogue to finish the quest and I can't finish it even though I've already done it several things are also deleted from my game ship names were all so changed on me. polo won't give me the last part

So i started playing again and i got a settlement and started the battle to try and get the sentinal ai stuff, but when the attack started, they were the dissonent sentinels and did not drop the item to start that quest, am i locked out from it now or is their an alternate way
Anyone know how to get this to trigger again? I logged in for the first time in months and as soon as I went to my settlement it started up. but there were so many sentinels that by time it said reinforcements were incoming I decided to go somewhere else until things cooled off. Now they are gone and I don't know if I just have to wait a random amount of time or what. Weirdly, everyone at the settlement is still running around like crazy and the dramatic metal music is playing like we're still under attack. but no sentinels are near.
I thought I would enjoy having a little buddy accompany me on my adventures, but I swear, this thing intentionally flies into my mining beam every single chance it gets.
So I got the drone and tested it but it did not send me to a sentinel pillar it just said we'll make a good team with the minotaur and it will not let me progress in the quest. Is there anyway to start this quest over?
I think my game glitches. I'm stuck at the part where you need to go to the Nexus and collect 3 parts. I connected two and the guy made the sentinel for me but my quest still said i have 2/3 parts. When i went back to my settlement, i activated the sentinel and it doesn't do anything. Anyone having it had trouble with this part? I went back to the Nexus so many times to find that last part but no one has it? I can reset the quest? Please help
@@RabidDisposition Yes I do. It was weird when I went to the settlement there was an attack and I defeated it but I didn't get the item and I didn't receive the start of the quest. And now whenever I go back the citizens still act like they are under attack even though there are absolutely no sentinels. I'm playing on Xbox.
@@FurTV18 Ah that's good to hear. This update has had its fair share of bugs (and understandably so due to its size). One of which is that I can't use my multi-tool or any of its secondary weapons like the geology cannon either. It was very strange, I think it just happened in the middle of a battle with the sentinels. The weirdest thing was I loaded a save from an hour before it happened and the bug took effect there as well. I can't even draw my multi-tool. Odd
I really Enjoyed this mission, I hope the Expedition 5 will have more of this.

I have a problem, this mission does not launch, there is music and the alarm and my citizens are running everywhere, but there is no sentinel

Idk it’s just me or anyone but i’m fighting drone on settlements for almost 30 minutes because the drone keep respawning maybe bug or something
these mechs seriously remind me of the death egg robot from sonic 2. these are super cool! im gonna get mine when my alert level is high! definitely!

Yeah it's a bug. I saw someone else having the same issue
You can probably substitute with a repair kit until that's fixed

What is settlement and in cradle of you you can get up all those parts you make another one for the head
Went through a settlement attack and nothing happened for me. For some reason the mission just won't trigger.
Hop in your ship and warp. For me it took two warps. But you should receive an emergency broadcast from your settlement saying they are being attacked

Pick up what the sentinel drones drop and one of them should be a drone frame

Great addition to the game for sure, super un cool that it can not be re-coloured though, our paint job/ colours mean nothing on the upgraded mech.

Once I reloaded, the story would continue. This slowed me down a bit.
When I did this quest I kept getting this weird bug (I think?) where my drone would just continually fly in one direction fast whenever I needed to talk to them
I have a bug that dosnt even let me continue the mission the drone shell is not appearing
Did you know capital freighters warp into systoms i just firgured this out a resurgent A class freighter just warped into my systom after I my B class now I dont have the money for it, but at least ut makes my freighter look amazing since the A class resergents flert is around mine
do you need to finish the main story? I need to go to another galaxy right? Is taxing to other player's base is a good work around?
I've installed the right arm and it's components but it's stuck asking me to do it still. Any ideas?
Any idea what the drone is good for as a companion besides decoration???
It engages in combat and protects you when you are been attacked😊
Is anybody having a problem with this quest after the update I have to redo this quest all over again when I've already done this class and now when you get the first two parts from the people in the anomaly and I'd tell you to go talk to Polo and tell him what's going on well there's nothing in his dialogue to finish the quest and I can't finish it even though I've already done it several things are also deleted from my game ship names were all so changed on me. polo won't give me the last part
You skipped the drone dialog options mine isn't working and nothing I click on does anything there's nothing of coadenites

@@junin_fr no, I got this quest line like 10 mins after getting a settlement. It was a bit overwhelming.

Sadly I defended my settlement but did not get the Traces of Metal mission.
I had the new sentinels pop up at my settlement but no "trace of metal" quest.

So i started playing again and i got a settlement and started the battle to try and get the sentinal ai stuff, but when the attack started, they were the dissonent sentinels and did not drop the item to start that quest, am i locked out from it now or is their an alternate way
Anyone know how to get this to trigger again? I logged in for the first time in months and as soon as I went to my settlement it started up. but there were so many sentinels that by time it said reinforcements were incoming I decided to go somewhere else until things cooled off. Now they are gone and I don't know if I just have to wait a random amount of time or what.
Weirdly, everyone at the settlement is still running around like crazy and the dramatic metal music is playing like we're still under attack. but no sentinels are near.
I thought I would enjoy having a little buddy accompany me on my adventures, but I swear, this thing intentionally flies into my mining beam every single chance it gets.
Glitches out for me no right arm
So I got the drone and tested it but it did not send me to a sentinel pillar it just said we'll make a good team with the minotaur and it will not let me progress in the quest. Is there anyway to start this quest over?
My settlement is always under sentinel attack and I have never gotten this quest. Help.
I think my game glitches. I'm stuck at the part where you need to go to the Nexus and collect 3 parts. I connected two and the guy made the sentinel for me but my quest still said i have 2/3 parts. When i went back to my settlement, i activated the sentinel and it doesn't do anything. Anyone having it had trouble with this part? I went back to the Nexus so many times to find that last part but no one has it? I can reset the quest? Please help
I didn't get the quest on my login unfortunately. The update is out but I haven't received the quest.

If you are playing on PS4 then there are some issues right now. Fingers crossed that they get it fixed pretty quickly.
@@RabidDisposition Yes I do. It was weird when I went to the settlement there was an attack and I defeated it but I didn't get the item and I didn't receive the start of the quest. And now whenever I go back the citizens still act like they are under attack even though there are absolutely no sentinels. I'm playing on Xbox.

@@FurTV18 Ah that's good to hear. This update has had its fair share of bugs (and understandably so due to its size). One of which is that I can't use my multi-tool or any of its secondary weapons like the geology cannon either. It was very strange, I think it just happened in the middle of a battle with the sentinels. The weirdest thing was I loaded a save from an hour before it happened and the bug took effect there as well. I can't even draw my multi-tool. Odd
