    This is the Holy Grail of Bandit Edition Trans Ams. A 1977 black with black interior, t-tops and an automatic is what was portrayed in the movie. This one is also loaded with options and some really nice upgrades. It has been completely taken apart, body off the frame to a bare shell and restored from the ground up. Documented by Pontiac Historical Society and photos of the restoration.
    EXTERIOR: Completely restored back to it's original Bandit Edition paint scheme. Genuine Starlight black car and ir has all the gold striping and decals. It also has new gold grills and snowflake wheels with gold accents. These wheels are the upgraded modern version. They're 17 inch with G Force performance tires. The body's been completely restored. It's all metal, the body panels fit real square and flush. Very straight with no door dings no rust bubbles. The emblems, door handles, rubber window seals, weather strips and windshield were replaced. It has removable glass T-tops.
    INTERIOR: The inside of his car was completely gutted. It was prepped and primed and then covered with sound deadener material. I'm looking at a restored dash. New gold instrument panel and rally gauges are mint. The clock works. The formula wheel has gold spokes and is wrapped in hand stitched leather. Seats have excellent cushions and have been reupholstered. There is a center console between the two front seats and there's also a rare factory console between the two rear seats. Upfront is upgraded with a Hurst dual gate shifter. New carpet and custom Lloyd's embroidered mats. It has modern stereo with aux plug and hansfree option. 6x9 speakers in back. The plastic trim on the dlkr panels, kick panels, pillars etc are excellent. This deluxe interior also features a tilt wheel, power windows, power trunk and rear defrost.
    ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Upgraded with modern performance and reliability. It has an LT-1 350 Chevy motor with fuel injection, upgraded air conditioning system, serpentine belt & pulley system, upgraded power steering and it has a Spectre air filter system. They did manage to adapt the shaker scoop and painted the motor Pontiac blue. Twin electric fans to keep it cool. It has a factory cruise control. The trim tag is on the firewall.

    Even though this video is 2 years old and the car has already been sold I still enjoy looking at this one. I wish it would have been me with Deep Pockets to own this. Someone out there with plenty of money is the new proud owner of this '77 Trans Am bandit.

    I was an eleven-year old boy in 1977, when Smokey and the Bandit came out. My first time watching it, I didn't hear any of the dialogue - I only cared about that car. The owl-headlight design for 1977 and 1978 were, in my not-very-humble opinion, the pinnacle of this platform, and in black with the gold "screaming chicken", it was sex on wheels. This vehicle was beyond cool in the 70's and 80's, and for me, it is tied with the 66 Mustang for "Most Stunning and Timeless Design" winner. Absolutely EPIC!!

    My brother had the identical car, Hurst shifter and t roof with magnaflow mufflers.
    It had the original paint on the car and was in exceptional condition. It was appraised in the early 90's at $14,500, it was a great car.

    Does it have the Hurst or Fisher T Tops? The Hurst are the smaller of the two. Most people doing a resto of the TransAm want the Fisher.

    • @darrellkidd5177
      @darrellkidd5177 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those are Hurst tops. You can tell because they are smaller than the Fisher, and therefore the back of the top is not even with the door opening. The Fisher is probably a better top, but they weren't offered on the '77s, so even if you were adding t-tops you would want the Hurst on a '77.

    Mixed reception on this one Jay . The purists dislike the motor. I 'm sure that engine is a delight but l'm not a lover of this mixture , not with the provenance of the original . As they say "one man's meat...."

    Beautiful car. But you would think that with all the "no expense spared" vibe, you'd have an actual Pontiac 6.6 under the hood? And while LS/LT motors perform great, for that kind of money, you would have no trouble getting a Pontiac mill to produce just as much power. Not everything needs a LS/LT motor dropped between the frame rails.

The W-72 is the 400 CID or 6.6 Liter with a 4 speed manual trans behind it!!!!! I heard that Pontiac made 6077 W-72 in 1977, but I do not know if any went in the Special Editions!!!!! The '77s definitely had snowflake wheels as an option, and I believe they were standard on the SE cars (I know, I have a '77 SE). The snowflake wheels on the '77 were 15x7, but they offered a '15x8 on the '78 and up T/As with the W72 suspension package (you can tell the difference because they have more of a deep-dish look). However, what you said is true, you couldn't get the wheels on this car on any factory T/A, as these wheels are aftermarket wheels that are probably 17x9 or so.

    No, it wasn't a body-off restoration. These are and always were unibody cars. I will concede GM cars usually had a removable front subframe. F-body and X,-body GM cars did not have a full perimeter frame.
