I wanted to hate this but it's actually kinda cool. Like how you tried something different. Look how excited you got over the perfect ratio 😂😂
The ratio was a pure fluke and I was so happy I didn’t have to play around with half links and other cogs 😂
It's not different at all....LOL my bikes are pretty much all like this on my little channel🤔......
This is a popular mod to do to old mtb:s though...
I did the 6 bolt fixed gear job on a cheap '90s mountain bike. No magic gear required because horizontal drop outs. I love this thing, I have no problem getting in 50 + mile rides on it.
I took the BMX I used to ride as a kid out of my mum's shed a couple of years ago, and my initial reaction was: bloody hell, this is tiny. I spent the next few years riding it regardless until I gave it away to a kid. I did have two 26" mountain bikes afterwards and I always kept thinking why not replicate that old BMX in some shape or form. Never got to it unfortunately.
I hope that kid will love that vintage BMX bike like you did , I still have my vintage 1982 Team Murray X20 my first reaction to it is how heavy it is with its Chrome Moly frame .
I bought a BMX a few years back and had the same thought. Tiny! This is a pretty sweet ride with the 26” wheels and small frame.
Awesome! I made a fixed gear with bmx bars and peggs from an old department store steel mountain bike and I absolutely love it!
Pegs too eh! Is that for tricks or just style?
Same here old Raleigh bomber with mongoose bars seat and micro gearing .. absolutely love it ..bit of a heavy tank but Im in my 50's so never gonna be jumping it ..needs a paint job now .. project for next summer..
@@MonkeyShred mostly for bringing my girlfriend home from the pub 😂
That is amazing! with the 6 bolt in the back, absolutely brilliant
Pretty cool little hack I saw elsewhere and it seems to work well!
Love this. My favorite bike I ever had was originally a 700c trek Soho hybrid frame, disc brakes, with 26” wheels and 2.2 bmx style tires, single speed conversion, bmx bars, and the brake levers were old school cable motorcycle brake and clutch levers. Unfortunately it was so cool that it was stolen right out of my garage…
Sounds like a right "frankenbike"!
Nice build. I have a '97 Kona AA still going strong. Same frame as the Kula. Sweet as !
Awesome. Hope it keeps you riding for many more years.
@@MonkeyShred Cheers. Yep, it's fun and very well built (handmade in Vancouver). Also have an '04 Kula Deluxe. Both should serve me and the kids well for many more years. Mid-to-late 90s / early 2000s Kona hardtails are so much fun and reliable. Would love a steel Explosiv to complete the set.
Like the socket dirt guard straighten technique. Good work.
Thanks for noticing!
❤nice work , i learned something.
Homeboy DID that. Made that shit work too. I like the creativity and the bicycle “know-how”, it took some know-how and a little fabrication to make this work but he handled it. I enjoyed watching the metamorphosis.
Thanks dude 🤙
Nice build! Something different for a change. Besides there are 26 and even 29 BMX style bikes out there nowadays!
Thanks. Yeah my LBS sells some ‘wheelie bikes’ in a similar style.
I’m making a Skyway mtbmx from a Tange prestige Nishiki. Xtr/Xt Rockshox mag21. White Paint and factory skyway decals. Painting Rock shox to match. Thanks for the idea. After all we’re all just trying to get the bikes we all wanted as kids right? Lol
I don’t think I ever wanted this as a kid but it was something fun to try 😅
It looks like a fun ride. thanks for the vid. Now I'm gonna have to find me a small frame...
😂 good luck with your new build!
That is one cool looking bike , nice job .
Cheers Derek!
Nice!! Fun build. Doing something similar with a Haro Del Sol SPF 6 my Dad left behind when he passed… pretty bland bike, but some bmx parts will breath some new life into it : )
One of my friends had a Del Sol 3 speed cruiser. It was so smooth and didn't take much to get rolling pretty fast. One of my favorite bikes to ride, but one of the scariest to wreck. Stoked for you. Reading your comment truly brightened up my day
Condolences to you for your loss. I lost my dad in 2008. I was on my bike the last time I saw my dad and one of the last things my dad told me was to keep riding. I ride through the darkest, coldest nights and every sunrise is well worth it.
Hope the build works out for you 🤙
Awesome ! I used to have the exact frame,1994 Kona A'A . after a few years of the pink I removed the paint then buffed it to a shine.
Bet that was a lot of work!
Well worth it, the final buffing is the most important part
26" fixed gear freestyle bike. This is like my favorite type of bike except I only ride 700c. I built a volume thrasher and filmed it I'll edit it and upload soon.
Why only ride 700?
I like the flip flop wheel idea with the disc brake hub 👍
Yeah it worked quite well. Glad I remembered Toasty’s video!
@@MonkeyShred I might try that out on the GT timberline I've just acquired
If frankensteins monster was beautiful.......love it, good work again.
Thanks! What a way to describe it too.
Beautiful color
It really is!
I did this to my 26 inch ccm beach cruiser it had old school bmx style stem, an 9inch rise chrome bars I custom painted rims red with yellow splatter same with stem bar cover looked an rode amazing
Nice. Glad you to hear it worked for you.
I did a MTBMX on an old RockHopper but did a 1x7 and It's one of my favorite bike to cruse around with
I think something like that would be my next step. Gears would be perfect
@@MonkeyShred I'm a lil up there in age so gears are a huge help for me to get up them hills or keep up with the group rides
Yeah mentioned in the video, cheers man. You’ve done a lovely job and the way you fitted the cog to the brake thingy is a stroke of genius.
How does that hollow seat ride?
Glad you’ve seen the light 😉
FYI yesterday I fitted BMX bars to my old Triumph Trafficmaster 🤭🤭🤭
The hollow seats aren’t actually too bad. I was just keeping things cheap using it. They’re not the worst saddles for comfort but they do move around a bit on the rails.
Single speed cogs for cassettes have 6 bolt drillings for this exact purpose, turn a disk hub into a flip flop hub.
Nice work.
Cheers!
Awesome!!
Thanks 🤙
We had conk cruisers in key west in the late 70s ape hanger bars with tied on milk crate “borrowed from the grocery” cushy padded cruiser seats for totally upright position on bike thorn proof tubes in the tires they were mostly one speed coaster brake bikes but the style carried over to the light weight bikes the shops sold oh and fifty coats of paint reflecting the previous owners tastes , great memories !
‘Borrowed’ 😉 I need to find a milk / fruit crate for my latest build actually. Wonder where I could borrow one from now.
best intro ever!
😂 thanks.
Looks like a fun bike.
Yeah I was pleasantly surprised!
Nice looking bike
🤙 Cheers
smooth
Cheers!
No hate here, this is great. Part of why I love cycling.
Thanks Steven. I’m surprised at how much of a cruiser it turned out to be.
fun build!! nice one :-)
Thanks 🤙
what a weird crankset...how DO you get to that 5th bolt??? I really do like these big-bmx style bikes. I need to build one up.
😂 Yeah I should have elaborated on that! I had to take the ring off and put the back half of the crank bolt from the front on that one spot. There’s just enough room to get the tool underneath the arm too.
looks good and fun, i was thinking about doing the same thing randomly latley haha. mtb fixed gear freestyle.
i have gotten a few free MTBs completes and frames since sept last year. than randomly had the thought about doing the same thing. esp since i've been doing uber eats thinking it might be a good idea to have a "beater bike" that i got free just incase. but i've been lazy haha. love bmx bars are any bike. since im 6'3" for me they make riding more comfortable for me esp since i have back problems. but i also like the look esp if they're on a geared bike of any type. cool little odd mix haha.
now i want to do it a little more than i had. besides being lazy i also was waiting until i had a little extra money for the few parts i don't have. have most but need to get a new chain and maybe more since i haven't decided which frame so with that it could go however. have one frame i might use but haven't for sure decided. guess we shall see. but looks like a nice beater cruiser. like the frames color also.
I’m 6’3” too, BMX bars makes everything fit. And a 450mm seat post.
Give it a go!
OK nice build but I have questions. Are both rear sprockets the same size? On a flipflop don't you normally make the clickety one a bit bigger? But you can't adjust the chain tension. Also as the chain wears it won't be possible to tighten it up.
Yes, you would need tensioner of horizontal drops to keep the chain taught, non?
I’ve not heard of that rule personally so both are the same size! You’re right about the wear though. If it got bad then I’d take a link out and stick in a half link.
Sheldon Brown used QR (albeit, steel one - biting properly) on rear of his FG. Having choice I'd still go solid axle route and even haven't tried hex bolt hub because nuts so far have worked well and wrench in a tool bag isn't really holding me back.
Yeah I'd always chose nuts over QR for fixed. I've pulled a good few wheels out the dropouts with gears and QR!
Neat!
Cheers Sam.
magic top cap switch
Good spot! I liked the flatter cap more.
I did the same to my 26' mountain bike I've also just bought the electric zooz urban ultralight BMX bike check it out and I agree the mountain BMX Bike is fun to ride you know I like the build 😀
I’ve been offered a few of those style bikes. Maybe I should give them a go.
Since this is the magic ratio, can you put a chain and driveside crank on the other side too? This would be a dope built
I guess you could but if it was single speed on the other side it wouldn’t do anything.
hermosa, muy buena! 💜💜
I like it, thumbs up from me!
Cheers Sol.
Inspiration to my giant acapulco frame 13.5
Hope it works out for you!
I made a wooden effect, pathe racer, single speed from a old 80's Marin with mauve powder coating. Was a fek to get that off. But I ground the hanger a bit more as it was more horizontal and was a great commuter for 3 years, till the seat-stay snapped. Was a lovely looking bike.
Wooden effect? Like you painted grain on to the tubes? Sounds cool!
Seems like a good way to build a cheap wheelie bike
I’d love to confirm that but… I can’t wheelie 😂
So bmx parts fit on mountain bikes but bmx parts WON'T fit on cruisers correct?
You should film a ride after your builds.
I did a little on this one but yeah there should be more.
Dig it but I believe the grips and seat throw it off that just my opinion.
I like the grips. Saddle is a bit... yeah
love your video's... but why 2 brakes on a 'fixed gear'?
I'm pretty sure front and rear brakes are a legal requirement in the UK, even on a fixed gear or coaster.
@@keithschrack nah you only need one brake legally in the UK
@@keithschrack Another Great bmx video! I do ride bmx and I love your channel
I subscribed to you😊
So he can stop when he flips the rear wheel to the freewheel side.
Cobwobbler gets it! It’s so I can stop properly if / when I flip the wheel over to ride single speed.
Whole genre of biking in this category called fgfs (fixed-gear freestyle)
No way! I didn't know that was a thing.
Why isn't it good to use a quick release and a single speed?
Tweakers around the world are inspired by this build 😂
Why do people grind serial numbers off?
What is the ratio?
Can't remember that far back - sorry
hate it but love it.mixed feelings about it
Same!
I like the cat
She’s a cutie.
Its actually quite attractive for a Frankenbike
I’ll take that! 😂
👍
🤙
But... rusty bars? It can't take much effort to sand them down a bit and squirt some paint on.
Did you see the frame? 😅 A little bit of surface rust on the bars fits perfectly.
That laugh 💀 12:38
😂 That was an exaggerated ‘ah ah ah’ from the hot, freshly ground chain ring bolt.
@@MonkeyShred 😂😂
With 24" wheels I think it is possible to get a bmx that fits again.
Putting 24” on a 26” bike or…?
Welcome to the dark side....
Nooooooooooooooo
The green seat and bars is too harsh of a contrast to the frame color. Black or white would have been better.
Nahhh that’s boring. Sometimes you need a good pop of colour.
@@MonkeyShred Not if it's ugly.
@@rainbowhiker fortunately ‘ugly’ in subjective.
So after all that I didn't get to see the full bike....😢 disappointed my friend
Dude - it’s literally shown at the end in detail 🤷♂️
I live so much .... I have a BMX from a trash parts... Kkkk
I gave name SUCATÃO.. kkk im from Brasil..
I likes your vídeo....
Obrigado!
Be free. Build what u want !
Especially if it makes cycling work for you!
Yo bro that trick you used to flatten the dust cap literally was a nice surprise because my dust cap is bent and I couldn’t for the life of me get them damn corners right. Thanks man! I love how you put brakes on a fixed, watch out for them skidders they might make fun of you!!!
No worries! I normally run a front brake on a fixed anyway but the rear was for single speed use (if I flipped the wheel over)
Why do people Grind off their serial numbers?
To sell stolen bikes.
@@cccpkingu But doesn't that make it more hard to sell since its already sketchy. There's no way people will buy a sketchy bike.
Only if people actually check for the serial number. Most don’t. I ask all the time now.
Can you at least try to clean, repaint then put it back together?
Why would I do that?
Get shorter chaining bolts
Why? When you’ve got a box of bolts you can always make some fit.
@@MonkeyShred cause you can buy purple ones...match the frame.
@@darkuma1692 so your comment should have been ‘I think purple chainring bolts would look good against the frame’ rather than ‘get shorter chainring bolts’ eh?
@@MonkeyShred meh, who cares, there cheap items
That's a rat bike ❤
Yes it is!
