Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod th-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

I just got back from fishing in guntersville al. I caught a few crappies. They weren’t biting that good and if I caught one it was under 9inches. I want to try the crappie nibbles.
Would you comment on slip bobber fishing a deep brush pile for crappie with wind that tends to blow the bobber back to you if you have the boat facing the wind. Thanks for all the videos you make.
That's a complicated boat position, so I understand that could be frustrating. If there is a lot of wind and I felt a slip bobber was the best setup, I would position the boat off to the side of the brushpile (still facing into the wind) and cast the bobber so that it drifts over the brush but not back toward my boat.
I enjoy watching your videos, do you like use in Minnows or Jigs for your Crappie fishing? I've learned so much from the videos, keep up the good fishing.
Davis where do you find these Crappies in the spring. I live in Michigan and we have no brush piles and it is against the law to sink structure. So you can't make any the entire lake pretty much has the same weed cover. I never have confidence in where I am at and what I am doing. Someone suggested I join local panfish clubs. Do you have any suggestions.
Right now, April/May crappie will start pushing shallow to spawn in Northern states like Michigan. You should start seeing them near the edges of shallow bays where the first week growth starts. I would look for bays on that are on the Northern portion of the lake. These bays are the first to lose their ice and get the most sunlight, which means the first weed growth. Also look for areas with hard bottom sand/gravel in-between the weeds.
the hivis is easier to see when a fish bites. i typically use hivis line when slip bobber fishing in order to see if a fish bites before the bobber stop slides to the bobber
I didn’t know you can catch a lot of crappies just with the crappie nibbles. Usually I use the lure and then hook the crappie nibbles together with the lure. If you have the crappie nibbles then you don’t need the lure then.
Bought myself a bobber similar to that and when I cast it they stand straight up, not lay down like yours do they I have seen in a few different videos. Anything you can think of that could cause that? There is only one place to hook the bobber on so maybe it’s not made quite like the ones you have.....
You never seem to have the problem with your bobber stop that I do - I just get the depth set, catch a fish, and the eyelet moves the stopper as I reel the fish in. Got a tip for that? (I use the little rubber football stops)
When using the yarn slip, I have the problem of it sliding when it gets to the first eyelit. A trick I use for the rubber stops is when the stop is just about to get to the rod tip, I will give a little slack in the line and reel up quick. This allows the stop to goes through the first two or three eyelits without any problems. The yarn knots don't always work when using this tactic.
@@FloppingCrappie That makes sense, and now those pauses I noticed you make reeling in make sense. I'm not sure I'll EVER be calm enough reeling in a fish (Oh Boy!) to be able to see that tiny little black football. :)
Make your own bobber stops with mono. Get your line tight like a guitar string, then take length of 10 lb. mono and tie 4 hard tight overhand knots right on top of each other and clip both ends close to the knot. This knot is so small that you will hardly feel anything going through your line guides, and it stays put.
Sometimes I do. It depends on how aggressive the bite is though. The reason the weight is directly above the hook is to see a negative bite better (you're bobber will go sideways in the water when a crappie bites)
It depends on how the fish are biting, if the bite is negative (fish aren't willing to chase) then I put the split shot right against the hook. If the bite is more aggressive, I with move the splitshot up to a foot about the hook
How does your bobber stop at a certain depth? Never fished for crappie but got my first boat and want to try it out at our local lake, thanks for the information
Really great video! This is the kind of crappie fishing I love to do. You may have said it and I missed it, but how deep was the water where you were and at what depth did you have your string stop set?
Them bobbers are junk and crack to easy... i got 4 and all 4 are cracked in trash. I got the one with glow stick tubes from wally world. They cracked with me adjusting the float on line pulling spring back.

Just went crappie fishing in Ohio yesterday. Caught about 10 and a few bass on minnows. I use an ultra lite rod. Its so much fun on that set up.
Ohio here too buddy, up by Sandusky. Nice to see another Buckeye watching.

Thanks for the info, just getting back to crappie fishing. It's surprising what you forget!
Thanks for watching, glad the info helped!
I love fishing for crappie because if you catch one you’re catching 10 more. Where I’m at they have to be 11” to keep
Great video good to see you made it back home 🏠 just got my helix five and can’t wait to get it set up and get out on the water
Good luck this season. I think you'll enjoy the helix 5
Nice video man. Never used the slip bobber before. Looks quite effective 👍👍

Thank for your video I love watching you crappie fishing so good 👍
In Texas they have to be 10” to keep, in Michigan they just have to be a Crappie.
I use them in Mississippi ,, I put one under a crappie jig ,,
Very good job
Nice video. Going out after them soon here in Wisconsin as well.
Good luck!
Thanks and great Vlog....Sir

I prefer to fish with a jig, but minnows and a slip bobber almost always catches them.

May i ask why use are using monofli hi -vis yellow line versus clear mono or clear flurocarbon?

are you using a bobber stop and at what depth are you getting hits
I tend to place my pinch weight about halfway from the bobber to the hook, should I be sliding it all the way down to the hook like that?
Nice bro bobber get em
I use my slip bob all the time u can just go as deep as they are or move it to 2feet love my slip bob.

What are you using for the bobber stop
Rubber bead bobber stop. They are usually $1 per pack at sporting goods stores
You never seem to have the problem with your bobber stop that I do - I just get the depth set, catch a fish, and the eyelet moves the stopper as I reel the fish in. Got a tip for that? (I use the little rubber football stops)

@@MegaTechno2000 That is an interesting method - do you mean four separate overhand knots? Or one knot with the tag thru four times?
So do you have your bobber set up right at the hook?
Sometimes I do. It depends on how aggressive the bite is though. The reason the weight is directly above the hook is to see a negative bite better (you're bobber will go sideways in the water when a crappie bites)
Just a question. How come you dont trim the yarn ends on the bobber stop?
I tried them to about 1/2 inch. I found the yarn stops slip more, so I like to be able to tighten them up every so often.
How far are you setting jig from the bobber?
I was setting it about 12-15t deep. The bridge I was fishing on is about 20ft deep.

Good video..I just started following you, what type of gear are you using? Pole height, Reel, line test,...Thanks I fish in the Portland, Oregon area.
I have my complete list of gear in the video description.
I didn’t even know nibbles work by themselves
They work pretty well, give it a try next time on the water
Really great video! This is the kind of crappie fishing I love to do. You may have said it and I missed it, but how deep was the water where you were and at what depth did you have your string stop set?
I was fishing about 16ft of water and had the stop set at about 11-12ft.
Fish aren't finicky about seeing the fishing line. I see some Anglers use braids
Would you recommend an electric reel for freshwater fish?
When you use crappie nibbles do you move your line or let it float?
I move my line around most of the time to try and make them bite
C'est verite .
If my jig is nibless we call it fishing on credit...lol
Haha
Soft bite because they are small fish. All those should be thrown back
White crappie nibbles
10 sacalaits a person is just horrible. It’s 50 a person no size limit here in Louisiana..
