Great info you're sharing. Watching as I'm headed to the lake. All the tips you gave..I've used for years. As you share I finish your sentence. Not to pat myself on the back but I'm a pretty good crappie fisherwoman!! New subbie thanks for sharing. Now off to the lake I go
I’m a jig man too Brandon but now and then when the water gets real cold I’ll go up the creek with a cane pole and minnows and work the tree tops. I love pulling those slabs up through the timber on a cane pole. Thanks for the video.
Great video Brandon. Nothing like minnow fishing to take us back to the fun days where it all started. I fish with jigs most of time just to put more fish in the boat but I always have more fun fishing with a minnow and bobber. Really enjoyed the video and thanks for posting.
Nice video, cool to see you go back to the basics. Pretty much every crappie fisherman can relate to a bobber and a minnow. Real nice fish around the 11 minute mark!
Looks like the ole mustad was getting a workout today. I rig my slip bobber just like that but I add a bead under the bullet weight so it want be hammering on the knot. Get ready we got that cold front bout to push through they will be fired up. AWSOME video.
Brandon I see you have live scope on your boat it’s on but you haven’t said anything about seeing them on live scope I like videos where they don’t rely on them most weekenders don’t have the price for one I myself don’t have the price for one therefore when I watch videos like this one I really love them keep up the good works
My bro I grew up bass fishing, but now my granddaughters 9 & 6 want to learn how to fish for crappie we call them specks in Fla, watched a few videos but not yet been told what size and style of hook your using. I hear them say a size but then they don’t take a few seconds to show the hook so I can see the style, size, color etc. also I have a negative against me from the start, no boat so am a bank, dock fisherman, parents don’t like them on a boat out in the lake lol. Anyway great video and am now a subscriber looking for your next video. Thanks for allowing me to ask a question even if it does not get answered.
I know back in the early spring right up from where you are, i was catching some nice ones just throwing a minnow out with little gold hook and little small sinker
You always do very concise, thorough and informative videos and I appreciate it. When I do slip bobber fishing I recently switched to the Trout Magnet EZ slotted floats. They are super small and therefore easily pulled under by the crappie and you can quickly slip them on and off your line. Great video we appreciate it. 👍
Hi Brandon, Thanks for your instruction. You’re a great teacher. Question: generally speaking, are leaders smaller (6 test) than the main line (10 test)?
What depth finder would you recommend for a non-forward facing sonar fisherman? I would like to be able to find the area where the brush piles are located. What would I need?
This was another great video! I use a fluorocarbon leader with a double line uni knot to the hook because I occasionally break off with the palomar knot. I have been tying that same knot to the swivel. What is your opinion on this?
slip bobbers let's you make longer casts at deeper spots. if you try to cast out 20 ft. to a 12 ft. depth with a standard fixed bobber usually the bait, sinker and bobber 'cart wheel' uncontrollably. if you know what i mean. good videos.
I went fishing this morning and found a number of crappie and they would not bite. I switched over to the trout magnets I saw you use on your last video and they bit. Caught 25 and had a good morning. I used the gold but I put a blue stripe on it.
We always slip the fine wire hook the head but just under the eyeballs. Not over the top of the eyes under the eye. you'll see the hook going through the mouth and won't hit the brain so they stay alive.
Got to be the best Crappie angling channel on TH-cam, Come on people hit that like and subscribe button let's get this channel up to 50k before Christmas
I understand your point about clip on bobber but you are incorrect. You can clip the bobber at any depth you want. The problem is in casting and retrieving. If you don't have an extremely long rod you can't fish very deep. Some folks may not understand what you mean. If you are only fishing 3-5 feet deep any bobber at all will work. I use 12 for crappie rods with slip bobber but I can fish up to 10-12 feet deep by "pegging" the bobber and leaving the stop in one place. In summary, I loved the video, your explanation of technique was great.
This is not the simplest way of slip bobber fishing!!!! I fish a lot with slip bobbers, but your setup seems overly complicated, no reason to use a barrel swivel and leader (imo). Just two extra knots that (aren’t necessary) and could be a point of failure. Just simply use a split shot sinker and clamp it on the line about 12-15 inches above your hook. The sinker does the same thing as your swivel, keep the weight away from your hook and bait for a clean presentation.
Your way will work yes. But with my way if I ever get hung up the leader will break first because the 6lb leader will break before the 10lb main line. All I have to do is tie on a new leader and hook and back to fishing. You lose your whole rig, bobber included. I’ll stick to my way👍🏻. Thanks for watching!
Gotta like a guy that loads up a Phoenix with a slip bobber rig and a styrofoam minnow bucket. Awesome video sir!
Thanks!
I was thinking the same, down to earth guy right here
Old School! That's what it's all about!!!👍
Thank you for breaking down your setup and showing it off for us. Can’t wait to get back out on the lake and catch me some crappie!

Sounds like a blast. I’ve been thinking about buying a long telescopic pole to try. Thanks for watching!
Great video Brandon. Nothing like minnow fishing to take us back to the fun days where it all started. I fish with jigs most of time just to put more fish in the boat but I always have more fun fishing with a minnow and bobber. Really enjoyed the video and thanks for posting.
It really is a fun way to fish! Thanks for watching!
This is our new fishing channel. My son and grandchildren can click on any of Brandon's videos and I don't have to be concerned.
I’m not perfect by any means but I promise to keep it clean on my channel. I have young girls of my own so I can relate. Thanks for watching!
Nice video, cool to see you go back to the basics. Pretty much every crappie fisherman can relate to a bobber and a minnow. Real nice fish around the 11 minute mark!
Thanks! The big ones are starting to show up.
@BrandonLesterFishing Yup your weather seems to track somewhat close to me in PA. Just a couple over 2lbs recently!
Great video. Good info on the slip bobber too. I've just started using a weighted bobber and it's a game changer.
Looks like the ole mustad was getting a workout today. I rig my slip bobber just like that but I add a bead under the bullet weight so it want be hammering on the knot. Get ready we got that cold front bout to push through they will be fired up. AWSOME video.
Glad I found this channel. We’re in Mid TN. Just getting into crappie fishing.

Thanks Brandon, that was fun.
Great teacher.

Excellent video ! Just simple fun fishing 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Great informational video thanks again for taking the time to make these awesome videos
Thanks for watching!

great video Brandon
Great video as always. Thank you for the information.
Thanks for watching!
I met Brandon a few months ago, really nice guy. Would love to go fishing with him or know the spots to catch the big ones.
Hi Brandon,
Thanks for your instruction. You’re a great teacher. Question: generally speaking, are leaders smaller (6 test) than the main line (10 test)?
Yes
wish i lived down there id definitely would book a trip with you
What depth finder would you recommend for a non-forward facing sonar fisherman? I would like to be able to find the area where the brush piles are located. What would I need?
What size hooks you use for crappies.
This was another great video! I use a fluorocarbon leader with a double line uni knot to the hook because I occasionally break off with the palomar knot. I have been tying that same knot to the swivel. What is your opinion on this?
Nothing at all wrong with a uni knot. I tie it a lot myself. Thanks for watching!
What rod do you use and recommend for a Crappie pole? 8' and up. Scott
Very good video thanks
Hey Brandon what’s the best way to hook the minnows when pitching minnows.😊
Through both lips or through the tail. Thanks for watching!
Why do some use that leader with barrel swivel? Whats the advantage with that rig?
Great video
Thanks!

Great video! I live in Idaho unfortunately we can't use live bait
Don’t really understand that law but rules are rules. Thanks for watching!

It’s amazing how affective that little bait is. Glad you caught some! Thanks for watching!
Were you on Percy Priest?
I have been guiding about 20 years now. and using a slip rig just as long. Is there any particular
reason your putting your float upside down?
It’s not upside down. Just the way the float is shaped. Thanks for watching!
No offense it does look like it's upside down but great video thank you
Thank you
That's the way!

Used to get a dollars worth of minnows and now it costs twelve. Of course that was almost 40 years ago
Yep I dood it tooooo and home made slippers
Got to be the best Crappie angling channel on TH-cam, Come on people hit that like and subscribe button let's get this channel up to 50k before Christmas
Sounds good to me😂. Thanks for the kind words really appreciate it!
I make my own hair jigs it's all I use works good with slip floots
Going to have to try that. Thanks for watching!

Slip bobber rig is the only way to go.
why is the water color blue in your bait bucket?
Its a powder that you put in the water to keep your minnows longer. I think it had some oxygen properties to it
@@warrenjackson1157 interesting, perhaps some kind of nitrogen compound
🙂👍
Why do you use a leader
@@toddyoung9888 so I don’t lose my whole rig if I get hung up. All I’ll lose is my hook and I can retie that in less than a minute
Crappie perch walleye blue gill trout I'm a slippery fool
Hey Dudes for the W! 😂
Don’t get any better than mossy oak bottomland and hey dudes😂😂
If there not 15 to 16 inch I toss them dinks back in
LOL, 10 lbs line, swivel and a leader to catch them big crappie pike LOL.
This is not the simplest way of slip bobber fishing!!!!

There is no such thing as a light action rod.
My bamboo rod begs to differ. 😂
