    I just added this pack to Rig Manager, it took me back to the '80s right out of the box. It was a lot of fun jamming some old favorites, it covers so many bases. I've got some '80s metal/rock profiles I've already tweaked for myself, but couldn't quite nail the delays and slight detunes. The 'dirty' SPX Lead and W/D/W FX blocks took me the rest of the way there. Thanks for taking the time to make this pack.

    Thanks for all the Kemper tips and insights. Can't wait to try these profiles. I'm 'older' and recently my wonderful 80's - 90's gear museum all but died. Gigged for over 20 years with essentially the same rig. It sounded amazing, but it was falling apart and I'm not MacGyver. So I dove into Kemper and had some challenges. I really missed my old rig. The Kemper wasn't very intuitive... more like I was lazy. Luckily I found some video's, especially yours, that helped me get a foothold on my Kemper.

    Hi Dan sounds great and love your playing (actually would love to see some playing tips/licks videos as well). What do you use for the recording or how do you monitor the sound? I assume that there is a serious difference between what we hear and what you hear in the room, right?

      Thanks so much for the kind words! For recording the Kemper runs into my Behringer UMC404HD interface and is recorded totally dry.
      In the room I monitor with Adam T7V studio monitors. Obviously all monitors or speakers have a slight change in character, but it should sound pretty much identical if you are using studio monitors or FRFR monitoring. Your particular guitar will obviously make a difference too.

      To be honest I just analysed the signal path in a lot of 80s racks and tried to recreate them using the available kemper fx engines and routing. A lot of it was done by ear. I think you could get similar tones from the GTK for sure. There is a lot of routing possibilities.

  • @RichiAtlanticWind
    @RichiAtlanticWind 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    As a 90s grunge/nu metal kid I hated those ultra processed sounds of the 80s. It's amazing how subjective tone can be. I can now see the appeal of those kinds of tones for the people that loved that music. Even if I will never touch any of those tones with a barge pole I can appreciate the very nice work that you put on getting them Dan. You keep uploading great content. Keep it up because I think you will slowly get a wider audience. You have good taste. You play good. And you have the knowledge. Maybe work a bit on the camera angle, lighting and all that to get an even better content.

    • @DanLeggatt
      @DanLeggatt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Believe it or not, I was exactly the same. I hated chorus with a passion for a long time. I was also big into rock / nu metal in my teens. I didn’t really get into these tones until my early 20’s and all of a sudden I was obsessed with them.
      The funny thing is that I don’t really use these tones in my own playing for live or recording. I just love dialling them in for my own enjoyment. I realise how much of a nerd I sound! As you say, it’s all subjective and personal taste.
      I appreciate the kind words about my videos. I’m always trying to make improvements as time / budget allows. Nee lights are on the list. Videos like this one are a bit awkward because I have to be sat at my computer so I don’t have a lot of space to get a better angle.

    • @RichiAtlanticWind
      @RichiAtlanticWind 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanLeggatt yeah, as I told you I can appreciate those tones now. More on a "historic" level maybe. I also love to nerd out on tones, so I completely get it. Tone matching is one of the things I enjoy a lot just for the sake of it. But your skill level is way above what I can do. So I enjoy it. And I can imagine the time and effort.
