Nearly all corporate CEOs and banking institutions are run by goblins, generation after generation. They also have a dominating influence over the governance of our countries. ...BUT that's okay, goblins just have really high IQ. If you don't like that, then you're anti-goblin.

i was really surprised when i realized the goblins made up only 2% of the magic world's population but were the absolute majority of billionaires owning all of the magic world's banking system! I'm starting to think the great Goblin wars casualties were exaggerated
I have nothing against Goblins... but It makes me mad when they try to pretend they're a victim class right alongside the elves who were actual slaves in this country. They have all that political and financial power and they still play the victim? Disgusting.
Most unrealistic part of the game is that you have a trans woman in a world that has magic that can litteraly change you into a different animal entirely. People wouldn't be trans women and men, they should litteraly just use magic to swap in a heartbeat and not have to pretend.
@caw caw caw men and women who want to be the opposite sex are called trans. In Harry Potter, you can literally transform into animals. Keep both pieces of information in mind and then come to a conclusion.
Agreed, it's really bizarre. And hell, if they decide they don't like it, they can change back, if it's all done with a polymorph potion or whatever. Ability to pass increased 1000%.

I saw the video of Jim Sterling going on a deranged rant whilst wearing a wig and corset about this game/JK Rowling... the absolute amount of seething is palpable and hilarious.
"So ya see Harry, Hogwarts used to be very diverse and trans-inclusive in the 1890s" "What happened then, Hagrid?" "Uhhh, so apparently there was a second chamber of secrets, with a second basilisk, except this one targeted... um...minorities. I uh don't need to go on, do I?"
Polygon made an review of this game. The reviewer, some Indian chick, whined how she longed for more Indian representation in the books, since series had like two Indian sisters. Then she starts to talk about Hogwarts Legacy, set in 1890 Scottish countryside, it has multiple Indian students and even professors. Instead of being happy to be representated in such a way, she says it all makes her skeptical. Quote: "While Rowling’s racial representation has never been good, tossing a half-dozen Indians into the Scottish countryside willy-nilly isn’t exactly better. Where did they come from - India, which was still under British rule in the 1800s? And where did they all go by the time Harry got there?"
These people can never be satisfied, it's pointless to even try. They complained that the game was transphobic, then when it turned out it was exactly the opposite, they changed the goalposts so they could keep whining. Keep in mind these are the same people who call you an entitled incel for not wanting identity politics shoved down your throat.
At least they also recognize that all this forced inclusion is goofy and unrealistic. But as has been said enough already, if they want to be represented they should focus on creating their own fiction. It's not like we are currently in an age of overwhelming competition for new IPs.
If you don't put Indians in Scottish countryside they will complain and say that "the game does not need to be historically accurate it has wands and broomsticks" but when Indians are in the game they complain "tokenism". Tbh this is the only game where journos complained about tokenism, we all know why
I'm pretty sure I remember it continuing throughout the whole game whenever she(?) was mentioned. That character's Mary Sue'ness was somehow managing to overshadow yours even when you were literally saving the whole region (or more) and Sirona was... "such a good person" or something.. for some reason.
there's an entire quest to fetch a box of sirona letters on a cave with a higher level troll, 5 letters which go on and on about how great Sir Ona is and etc. then you come back to more cutscenes of dialog about it. insane coddling

@@chad_bro_chill Yeah, can't see much difference between crucio and diffindo either. Both seem painful. ;D Or turning someone into an explosive barrel and exploding it -- their body reemerges after that with the final breath of death.
You hit most of the points I've made about the game. I'm especially glad you mentioned something that no one else seems to and that's the deliberate use of the word "they" instead of he or she. A person is never a "they." The two points I believe you missed are out of your companions there's only 1 white guy. Only 1 of your friends is considered "evil" and you can even send this friend to wizard jail at the end. That of course must be the 1 white guy. The other point of the "EMPOWERMENT" you have a little girl, Poppy, and she's always saying "I'm not afraid I'll take on all the poachers RAWR." No. You are a little girl who barely knows any magic and these are adults who are battle hardened wizards. You SHOULD be afraid. It is moranic that you're not and that SHOULD result in consequences for Poppy, but of course it can't. If the enemies in this game are such pathetic strawmen then your character is not "brave" you aren't doing anything heroic and therefor your character is boring. There is more than I could add, but I did believe those two were the most worth mentioning in addition to your review.
This game is easily the most pozzed good game I can think of. Hell, it's one of the most pozzed games I can think of that isn't a tax writeoff. It's funny people still complain about how bigotted it is when you'll really have a hard time finding a less woke game than this.

In 1942, at the Hogwarts Conference, a group of high-ranking wizards met to discuss "The Goblin question." Dumbledore, masterminded the "Final Solution to the Goblin Question," consisting of "special camps to concentrate the Goblin populations." The camps were labeled as "Death camps" by the Scottish government, and Dumbledore and his compatriots were arrested. However, Dumbledore managed to escape to Argentina, where he waited for 30 years until he was officially pardoned. It is estimated that 6 million Goblins were killed in the camps, and to this day they demand that this cataclysmic event be taught in Hogwarts curriculum every year.
@@dontbothertoreply9755 While Goblincaust deniers often say that this never happened, a more popular theory is that only 271k goblins were killed. this is based on Red Cross documents produced yet not verified.

Honestly the house picking was one of the most disappointing things in the game... until I found out that your house barely even changes anything in the game other than the early part of a single main quest and then I realized that they simply put the whole 'house thing' on the wayside altogether. Anyway, literally a fucking single dialogue choice (that matters) with pretty easily discernable 'house alignments' to it. That's all it takes. And then you just get to cheat around it anyway with no consequences. And if you'd like a bit more of an actual "sorting experience"... Register to our special site now! No, thanks. Go fuck yourselves. Ravenclaw btw. The only house which literally didn't get even a 'secondary companion' character like Hufflepuff's Sweeting girl ended up being.
An actually talented and passionate studio without forced checklists to fill would've been required to make a game like that. No such a thing left in the Western game industry.
The goblin thing does make me laugh. The pronouns thing is stupid because "they" get upset when "they" aren't referred to correctly, so now no one gets to be referred to properly, when "they" are like 0.01% of the population, whatever. The house elves do not want to be free, expect Dobby and he's literally scorned for being free and dying because of it too, freedom literally kills them. It's a huge things in the book, they are a cursed race but the why of it is mostly mystery. I like to imagine that everyone tends to treat them like shit because of some ancient upset in the wizard world, but we'll never know. Better left that way too because Rowling's explanations for things in her books are often horrifying or down right dumb... also: big problem in HP in general is how lack luster the magic system is IMO
@@thetoadwalker3010 I agree. Is it an american thig to compare Goblins to Jews? I'm British and it's part of Goblin folklore that Goblins and Kobolds hoard treasure, so Goblins running a bank makes sense for a wizarding world.
@@ArgentWolf95 Kind of? The comparison is made because some fiction "scholars" have decided that certain fantasy races are directly correlated to real world races, and so project human history onto fictional worlds. Goblins and orcs fall into this category most often, where they've decided that depicting these races at all is inherently offensive.
@@thetoadwalker3010 I'm familiar with the Orc one, that was done by academics and political activists who don't really understand fiction writing, or Tolkien. Honestly, it would be cool if it had a moral system. You can become more OP by using unforgivable spells, but you get less rewards because everyone hates you and the wizard police is hunting you.
"At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter if the game lets you pick your pronouns. I'm not gonna try and make a mountain of a molehill here." If it didn't matter, why do the pronoun police throw a shit-kicking fit whenever you get their self-proclaimed pronoun wrong? If it doesn't matter, why the hell are pronouns such a big deal today for an angry and outspoken subset of the population? If it doesn't matter, why are laws being proposed in first-world countries threatening to arrest people just for getting people's pronouns wrong. No, I'm afraid it IS a big deal. Our language is being twisted and mutilated in such a way to set traps up for ostracization, criminalization, and to even alter our very thoughts so that we are always in line with the Party's policy. Pronouns were never meant to serve as part of your personal identity, but to be a shorthand for how others identify you. They were never meant to be titles by which we are compelled to refer others as though they're aristocrats looking down their noses at the filthy peasants. But that's exactly what they are: regal titles for a spoiled, entitled, and over-privileged and self-proclaimed aristocracy.
My favorite part of the game is when Larry Fink comes out and shuts down Hogwarts for not meeting their ESG quotas for 2022. And then he gets back in Ranrok's car and says, "it's finkletime boyz!"
I miss the days of actually being able to be the character you want to be, like in Fallout New Vegas. Like yeah you're a courier without choice, but you can at least choose to be a good guy, an asshole, chaotic, neutral, or anything in between. Good times.. Modern games needs to bring back the true values of RPGs if videogames are to survive, that being given a choice that actually means something.

Definitely the best part of the game was Hogwarts itself. The architecture and artwork is beautiful and there are even places where it will play classical music for you. It’s also absolutely enormous and I had a ton of fun exploring it and solving puzzles.
Sebastian saves the game, also the game has soul in some areas details for the Potterfrogs, the Kraken tentacles in the lake, all the Potterfrog references in points of interests, Ominis is the mathernal side Grandpa of Voldemort, etc. Things like that. Everyone wanted a Bully 2 though & some mods can bring it closer to that now there is mods to attack students instead of just cats & deers lol. Also immersion mods to sit down & stuff. And an online mod for RP servers I guess that is not yet complete. This game will be very good for Potterfans in 1 year.
Sirona sounds like a robot. Like they had the original female voice actress's lines recorded, but then when they had the brillant idea to arbitrarily make a trans character they artificially pitched it down 🤣
I literally put my controller and thought to the myself, “Wtf is wrong with this transgender persons voice?” It totally is a half-baked idea and I agree…..after the controversy they added her/him/them/it in after production was complete. It totally took me out of the world and it’s immersion breaking.
The controversy surrounding this game is straight-up hilarious, because she didn't say anything that technically wasn't true. Everyone these days has an opinion, but there is a difference between an opinion and facts, she stated facts, and even went as far as to say she supports their cause. The reality is that no one needs to know what your sexuality is, keep it to yourself. There's only two people that need to know, yourself and your partner. Who cares what other people think, and stop trying to get everyone to agree with you. The joke is on them, because it clearly shows they're not happy with themselves. So you have the nerve to not accept yourself for who you are, and then you have even more nerve to get mad at others that don't accept you for who you are not.
It cracked me up when you went off on Ms. Wakanda, because I LITERALLY had the exact same reaction. Yeah, there's some buried in-universe explanation for this, but it seems so stupidly panderlicious that I almost woke up the neighbors cackling over this crap. Oh...and you think the curse combo is OP, go full stealth and put Binding III or Ambush III on all your gear. I can two-shot Trolls from stealth using Invis potions. Hell, they're the only ones I can't one-shot (though bosses won't let you stealth).
Great review synth, as usual. It's weird that they didn't want to start you at year one and just pretend you don't know the basics when in canon they have memory spells they could have worked in there so you have a reason for not remembering basic spells. I'm just going to wait till it's on sale because everyone seems to forget that Rowling isn't based, she has literally 1 view that is slightly different from the rest of the wokies and they turned on her like rabid dogs.
@@AysarAburrub aside from the token trans character, I think its handled pretty well. It's not hard to imagine Hogwarts is diverse because of all the students from the British Empire.
I found it weird that there wasn't a Ravenclaw companion. But that would have required effort I suppose.
The lack of a moral system and having the choice to be a 'good' or 'bad' wizard/witch is extremely disappointing. I'd be okay with waiting another year for this game if that's what they needed to implement such a mechanic. I absolutely love the type of games where you can start off as a villain and be an as$hole to everyone but have a redemption arc, or you start off as good and change into a villain over the course of the game. I love that sh*t and it's severely lacking with this game.
"You can't have a romance system, or gore or anything even remotely young adult rated because your character is a teenager. Games are for CHILDREN!!" Honestly? Not really. In the first couple of books Harry is definitely sue-ish but by the end he's shockingly useless and only acts as an extension of his teachers' desires and wins only through plot contrivance despite being overwhelmingly overmatched. He doesn't fit the criteria for a sue but definitely for an author-fiat bullshit asspull.
Gotta disagree on some points, no amount of progressive BS should be acceptable and the game has a lot more than a little. The combat is consolized garbage, it's not good and it's not fun, it just looks cool for the first 5 minutes after which it becomes a slog. The story is bad fanfic tier writing, what's the point of it being time appropriate when 1890s Hogwarts is more diverse than current day London? They pulled the whole goblin lives matter thing in the books too, and it was similarly bad. Hermione spends the entire book whining about how "goblins are people too." By the way the house elves are basically goblins who have been "elevated" and brainwashed into being slaves with magic.
@Murphy it’s not propaganda to have a trans character. it’s propaganda if it was like “you guys i’m trans and i think everyone should be trans also donald trump stinks”
Natty's comment about the wands really bugged me cause I'm a huge wand lore nerd. Wands bring focus and clarity to using magic. Wandless magic is difficult and readily yields unpredictable results unless you're very experienced with it. The different woods, cores, and characteristics impact *how* a wand will help a wizard channel magic so that certain kinds of spells will be especially strong or precise depending on the wizard's innate qualities. It's why wizards form a bond with their wands. Instead of "wandless magic is just as strong and more instinctive", she should have said "Wandless magic can be just as strong but it takes much concentration and practice. I've enjoyed learning to use a wand. It's more instinctive and also feels much more dramatic."
Fucking Voldemort used wands, and it's sort of his undoing; if the option really existed NOT to use one, not to depend on a thing that can fight you or be knocked out of your hand, he would have done so.
"I was more of a Chronicles of Narnia guy" *now that's based* I still remember reading the books and watching the first movie adaptation in cinema, very pleasant experience
And Tolkien took almost everything from the Arthurian Legends, European Folklore and Celtic & Norse Mythology! Christians always try to christianize eveything they stole from pagans....
It's not necessarily one or the other as a game can be fun and engaging to play regardless of the quantity of woke content in the game. It's not like writers and artists are also doing the gameplay and level designs (unless it's a really small indie company then there are possibilities of overlaps). With that said, if you don't like elements of the "progressive" agenda in your games you probably shouldn't be spending your money on brand new copies of these types of games if you're a principled individual, even if the gameplay looks like it's right up your alley. Even if I was an HP fan, I'd never buy this game due to the absurd levels of diversity and other "progressive" content.

Regarding the Demiguises, the map tells you straight up how many are at each location and even each SUB-location in the case of Hogwarts. And Revelio is your defacto "Detective Vision" of sorts, so you just cast the spell and start looking through walls for items shining blue (granted, only at night). It is so stupid that nobody talks about how a Harry Potter game is a basic AC type shooter with the gameplay focusing on combat only.. This game should have been a game full of puzzles, investigations with interesting and unique gamemechanics. It is ridicilous how trained everyone is at this point to just swallow this mediocrity with no questions asked.

You pretty much said exactly everything I felt. The final boss was the only somewhat challenging combat in the game. But with 25 health potions at the ready? Not so much. The unnecessary RPG mechanics were also part of what made new GoW games so unbearable, that and the inflated health pools as an excuse for high difficulty. Hogwarts really should have done the whole Dark Side/Light Side thing that KotoR and KotoR II. Continually using curses adversely affecting your health and causing people around to hate and fear you, inevitably leading to a negative game ending. Hell, maybe a karma system, thereby enabling one to become a Good Slytherin or a Bad Gryffindor, giving credence to the concept of choice/destiny.
I feel this game was SPECIFICALLY tailored to hard-core fans of the Harry Potter world. NOT the general public of rpg fanbase in gaming. The game is 75% scripted cut scenes than gameplay is linear path based combat which is okay. Point being this game is definitely overhyped and isn't the end all be all people are saying.
I don’t have the stomach for the self mutilator advocation this game does. I was repulsed after the 4-5th time the story forces you to deal with that character. As far as the gameplay itself goes I found it to be very mediocre. Removed from my library.
Honestly the house picking was one of the most disappointing things in the game... until I found out that your house barely even changes anything in the game other than the early part of a single main quest and then I realized that they simply put the whole 'house thing' on the wayside altogether.

Fun fact: SIRona Ryan's voice is on other languages voiced by females.
"At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter if the game lets you pick your pronouns. I'm not gonna try and make a mountain of a molehill here."
If it didn't matter, why do the pronoun police throw a shit-kicking fit whenever you get their self-proclaimed pronoun wrong?
The corruption of our language is an assault on our people that leads to Geno's Side.

@@AysarAburrub Yeah, it is woke but it doesn't bash your head about it.
@@AysarAburrub aside from the token trans character, I think its handled pretty well. It's not hard to imagine Hogwarts is diverse because of all the students from the British Empire.
@@GeraltofRivia22 yeah, i didnt mind the extremely diverse cast of characters, but it did make me scratch my head a little. Overall it wasnt too bad.
I found it weird that there wasn't a Ravenclaw companion. Would have been neat if the companions were like actual friends who, maybe depending on how much of their questline you've done, join you on certain story missions including the bug final mission. But that would have required effort I suppose.
Once again I refuse to compromise my principles and will not play anything woke.
damn, so much to miss actual fun gameplay but whatever
The lack of a moral system and having the choice to be a 'good' or 'bad' wizard/witch is extremely disappointing. I'd be okay with waiting another year for this game if that's what they needed to implement such a mechanic.
I absolutely love the type of games where you can start off as a villain and be an as$hole to everyone but have a redemption arc, or you start off as good and change into a villain over the course of the game. I love that sh*t and it's severely lacking with this game.
"You can't have a romance system, or gore or anything even remotely young adult rated because your character is a teenager. Games are for CHILDREN!!"
(Your character then proceeds to absolutely brutally massacre everything standing in his way and half of the time tortures said everything in combat.)
If you're going to be a pearl clutching, Western dev, then at least TRY not to be creatively and socially hypocritical. Stay consistent.
Seriously, the kidnapping thing is very looked over. Imagine grown men… kidnapping a female teenager. Yeah, that’s ummmm… hmmmmm.
The fact this game came out the way it did, by a studio like Avalanche, is no less than a miracle.
"your character is a mary sue" so it's just like harry potter?
Honestly?
This is not a good game, it's an insult to sanity, gaming and the HP IP.

As soon as you said, "Pretty much an Ubisoft game" I knew this was gonna be some incredibly average tier video game and the rest of your review pretty much confirmed that.

I would argue subtle wokery does matter... perhaps more than the egregious version ,, since the objective is to change how people feel and think , and subtle persuasion is more effective than aggressive, how unlike wokes I'm not going to attack folks that don't give a shit
Agreed. This is even more true when we're dealing with language which affects how we think.

I'd say anything "woke" (and I mean by it "Putting something in a content for the sole purpose to shift your audience's world views) should be a big no no, no matter if it's subtle or not.
It's the issue I have with many critics on TH-cam, they only don't like woke when it's in your face, but they were okay with Spider-Man PS4 because it was kinda on the backseat (aside from the DLCs).

Wandless= weak, tribal magic
It’s hinted to be that way lol

>It's a good game
>It has wakanda levels of woke
Pick one.

If you see one, you just work your way over to it. It's really not that hard to keep track of, ESPECIALLY compared to some of the other collectables that are a real pain in the ass to find when you start nearing the end, like Merlin Trials; Butterflies; and Landing Platforms.

Think I’m just going to stick with Stalker Anomaly for escapism the rest of the year because there is no such thing is a new game that doesn’t advance/normalize the message.
