RPG stands for Role playing so I do not understand Why they need to be like that. Kingdom Come had a great RPG system were you needed to train to actually get good. You can still kill some one in one shot with a bow or if they are to tough follow them home and kill them in their sleep.

I didn't hate 3's gameplay, but I seriously couldn't care less about the story in that game. They could've tackled plot points that the second game had left perfectly lined up, like Dex betraying the Saints and joining Ultor... but instead they wanted you to, I dunno, fight some wrestlers and become a toilet with a gun instead. It was the beginning of the end for this franchise.
@@SirCaco That's the thing, there was supposed to be another game in-between 2 and 3. Old Volition employees talked about in an interview some time around when 4 came out. Among the things they mentioned, it was actually going to cover the sell-out of the Saints to Ultor, and was actually going to cover the changes in the characters (like Shaundi quitting the drugs and even getting breast implants for her TV career). Thing was it was being developed alongside what would become 3, and it got cancelled because Activision stepped in and basically went "The fuck are you idiots doing making two games at once?" And 3 was the one they decided to go all-in on in that case. And it also shows in the audio logs you find in SR4 that they do finally address a lot of the plot holes created by skipping the plot of the cancelled game.

I actually know someone who worked for the company that play-tested this game, according to them Volition dismissed like 90% of the feedback they got, even when it was bug-related.

They did. Look up crowbcats video on it, the creators clearly loathed Saints Row for being "problematic". These types will always either destroy or subvert anything they get their hands on.
The end credits have a special thanks to discord and reddit mods. One of the discord mods even trashed saints row 2 and fans of SR2. So I assume they also had other people on the game who probably didn't play or care for the games before.

The saddest part about this game is that most fans said: "We don't want this. Don't go in this direction". We knew what we didn't want in SR. And they were aware, they made fun of the critics on social media, but did nothing for the game.

That’s kinda the point of the game this new group starting up the saints and the criminal ventures you start adds to the narrative. In SR2 you were already given the empire without the work of actually building it from the ground up which is why the new game is a reboot in the first place

I knew after Saints Row 4 the franchise was ruined. They tried to do more of the same idea with Agents of Mayhem which flopped. How do you continue your series after becoming the president and blowing up the earth without it basically being Mass Effect?
Here is how to continue: Have the saints move to a different universe. Sounds stupid, but it is as simple as that, and have the plot of the game be about the Boss feeling regret about their actions, and then have it revealed that in the new universe, Dex won and killed most of the gang. Have the Boss be obsessed with overtaking Dex and his crew, while attempting to find their place in the new universe. Not the best story, but hopefully it sounds better than some randos trying to pay student loans.

I knew his was going to be bad, even as a Saints Row fan. It isn’t prophecy. The simple fact is that the Saints Row of the 2000s leaned on edgy humor, violence, and well, offending people. Those kinds of games simply can’t be made today. The change from Freckle Bitches to F.B. Is a perfect example. The developers are so scared of having an “offensive” moment that the characters, jokes, and plots are lifeless and flat. The only thing it is acceptable to show is violence, so they tune it up to the stratosphere. You have this hilariously stupid situation where it’s perfectly okay to beat a woman to death in the most gruesome way possible, but suggesting you did it because she wouldn’t make you a sandwich is a bridge too far. Give me a break. What developers don’t seem to get is that most players are very forgiving. You can launch with janky gunplay, vehicles, some bugs and glitches, etc. People will complain, but you can fix it, and have the time to fix it IF the game has a compelling story and gameplay loop. But the devs just as so scared to violate the modern strictures that they just are completely tame. GTA will have the same problem.
Volition shills can blame us "waycist, h0m0ph0bic" fans all they want but the people have voted with their wallet and voices. Never has a franchise been so disrespected by its' own creators so much that they had to shut down after long years of hiatus. Old fans won't miss you and new "fans" didn't support the new game either. You notice how in SR2022 the boss is like "set one foot on those stairs" (implicating shooting them) then he just lets him walk away. I remember countless scenes in SR1-2 where the boss just shoots at the guys who are running away like he actually is trying to stop them.
As a Saints Row fan R.I.P to my favorite series ever. Yes, SR1 and SR2 are very clunky, but that story hit home with me. I grew up in the inner city around a bunch of gangs, so that first story about a young broke kid becoming the boss of a criminal organization really stuck with me. The second one was the perfect continuation of the story even if it became a little more over the top. SR3 was the beginning of the end for me and this reboot is the nail in the coffin.

3 was parodying the over-the-top direction they took in 2; 4 parodied 3; and what I will simply call 5 parodied 4. The gameplay was still good, the humor was there, but the writing did sort of go off the rails, because the whole point WAS to be ridiculous and self-mocking. But that's the thing; the only reason more games were made was because they ratcheted everything up to absurd levels. The basic story of being a criminal gang in Stillwater, and that's it, had definitely run it's course by the end of 2.

The game is 100% super woke. Being woke isn't about actually believing the message but simply trying to gain brownie points for retweeting the message. Which is all this game does. It's no surprise that the game uses the same cringe inducing reptilian dialogue that infects every product coming out of Hollywood recently. The story would have worked if all your friends get killed by the real gangsters because your friends were weak children. That could be used to motivate your character to become a real hardened gangster to get revenge. Running drugs, robbing banks to get cash to buy guns and pay gang members. And by the time you finished the game you realize that your friends were worthless people and you and the world are better off without them. BOOM suddenly you have a better story instead of spending 100% of the story complaining about college loans and rent.

For example Johnny's banter with Aisha was always over killing people or bodies on the ground, blood, the fact he always commiting a crime etc The entire story was 100% serious. The third turned whacky but it still somewhat grounded they just turned everything they had and made it bombastic. -mexicans turned into wrestlers -EDM era turned into a gang -The doctor's mini games which was always a nice touch. -stag (ultor) and the zombies now ain't a mini game but a mission -certain weapons. Etc, but it was still funny and had it's moments 4 was just fun, not the saints row game I loved but fun, same with GatOutOfHell Just mindless fun "I'm gonna shoot the devil in the face" They did the same for this new saints but completely bleached anything funny that the third provided and just kept the rest, tried to make it serious but the dialog is bad/ the reasoning for them starting a gang is dumb. I think they did playtest it, but given how the developers have reacted to criticism and what they've said in the past, I think they responded to anything negative by saying they were a bigot and threw them out of the building without pay.

The whole sandbox game in the desert really reminds me of the old xbox game Chili Con Carnage. Even the art style. But the constant crashing and locking up on loading screens is absolutely driving me nuts. That and they got rid of the cockney bloke accent choice for the boss >.>
As a Saints Row fan, RIP 2006-2008 I was 15 when I first played saints row 2 back in 2011 and I fell in love with that game. So many great memories I had. I lost count how many times I completed the story. SR1 and SR2 will always have a special place in my heart ❤😔

There are less vehicles, the same animations, no real villain(unless you count capitalism), too many times I was saying to myself I wish this was three. And SR3 was where it started getting awful in my opinion. I can’t even beat the game because it keeps crashing
I loved every previous Saints Row game. Though I started with 3, and didn't play 1 or 2 until much later, and by the time I did play through them I had already also played through 4 and Gat Out Of Hell. This Saints Row made me fucking depressed and miserable as I played through more of it, as I saw it crack and crumble around me more and more. The story isn't what made me so miserable, I was willing to excuse it. It was the gameplay, and the bugs. God the bugs are so bad, I don't know what's an intentional design choice or a bug. And the open world feels like it lacks something previous Saints Row games had, though i'm still not sure what.
Saints Row 2 is still more fun to go back to than any recent game in this vein. And that scene with Dutch Van Der Linde would've ended with him getting laid out and stomped for thinking hes funny.
The lead writer for this game was a woman, this explains the cringy sequences like the LARPing crap and the scenes where the characters talk about food and drinks. She's rumored to be in charge of Beyond Good & Evil 2.

Just recap the beginning of the games to see how everything deteriorated: Saints Row 1: Julius Little left the Vice Kings gang, because he had enough of their leader's ambition and moved to the Saints Row district. When gang violence from the three major gangs reached the district, he made the Third Street Saints gang out of desperation as an answer to protect the community and also saved the player character with his right hand, Troy, when the three other gangs clashed on Saints Row. Saints Row 2: The Saints fell apart after the end of the first game, because someone in the gang was a traitor, so the player has to rebuild everything. Evidently, Ultor let three new gangs spread in the city so they could benefit from gang violence, and they also completely rebuilt the Saints Row district into a corporate utopia. Saints Row The Third: The Saints, now media celebrities, rob the wrong bank and damn near lose everything to an organization called the Syndicate. Also everything is goofy now. Saints Row 4: ALIEN INVASION! Saints Row reboot: muh student loans

It was the beginning of the end for this franchise.
@@SirCaco That's the thing, there was supposed to be another game in-between 2 and 3. Old Volition employees talked about in an interview some time around when 4 came out. Among the things they mentioned, it was actually going to cover the sell-out of the Saints to Ultor, and was actually going to cover the changes in the characters (like Shaundi quitting the drugs and even getting breast implants for her TV career). Thing was it was being developed alongside what would become 3, and it got cancelled because Activision stepped in and basically went "The fuck are you idiots doing making two games at once?" And 3 was the one they decided to go all-in on in that case.
And it also shows in the audio logs you find in SR4 that they do finally address a lot of the plot holes created by skipping the plot of the cancelled game.

Here is how to continue: Have the saints move to a different universe. Sounds stupid, but it is as simple as that, and have the plot of the game be about the Boss feeling regret about their actions, and then have it revealed that in the new universe, Dex won and killed most of the gang. Have the Boss be obsessed with overtaking Dex and his crew, while attempting to find their place in the new universe. Not the best story, but hopefully it sounds better than some randos trying to pay student loans.

The simple fact is that the Saints Row of the 2000s leaned on edgy humor, violence, and well, offending people. Those kinds of games simply can’t be made today. The change from Freckle Bitches to F.B. Is a perfect example. The developers are so scared of having an “offensive” moment that the characters, jokes, and plots are lifeless and flat. The only thing it is acceptable to show is violence, so they tune it up to the stratosphere. You have this hilariously stupid situation where it’s perfectly okay to beat a woman to death in the most gruesome way possible, but suggesting you did it because she wouldn’t make you a sandwich is a bridge too far. Give me a break.
What developers don’t seem to get is that most players are very forgiving. You can launch with janky gunplay, vehicles, some bugs and glitches, etc. People will complain, but you can fix it, and have the time to fix it IF the game has a compelling story and gameplay loop. But the devs just as so scared to violate the modern strictures that they just are completely tame.
GTA will have the same problem.

You notice how in SR2022 the boss is like "set one foot on those stairs" (implicating shooting them) then he just lets him walk away. I remember countless scenes in SR1-2 where the boss just shoots at the guys who are running away like he actually is trying to stop them.
As a Saints Row fan R.I.P to my favorite series ever. Yes, SR1 and SR2 are very clunky, but that story hit home with me. I grew up in the inner city around a bunch of gangs, so that first story about a young broke kid becoming the boss of a criminal organization really stuck with me. The second one was the perfect continuation of the story even if it became a little more over the top. SR3 was the beginning of the end for me and this reboot is the nail in the coffin.

The basic story of being a criminal gang in Stillwater, and that's it, had definitely run it's course by the end of 2.

The game is 100% super woke. Being woke isn't about actually believing the message but simply trying to gain brownie points for retweeting the message. Which is all this game does.
It's no surprise that the game uses the same cringe inducing reptilian dialogue that infects every product coming out of Hollywood recently.
The story would have worked if all your friends get killed by the real gangsters because your friends were weak children. That could be used to motivate your character to become a real hardened gangster to get revenge. Running drugs, robbing banks to get cash to buy guns and pay gang members. And by the time you finished the game you realize that your friends were worthless people and you and the world are better off without them. BOOM suddenly you have a better story instead of spending 100% of the story complaining about college loans and rent.

This game made me appreciate even the "worst" UbiSoft has/had to offer. Insert "Frog in the water" analogy somewhere.
Ah the frog analogy, where an actual frog in real life would jump out of the water when it got too hot, but the people who still like Marvel or star wars or saints row or anything Blizzard makes.... They'd sit in the boiling water for hours.

They litterally are against the gangs because they keep fucking with them. You get fired from the marshalls, the idols almost kill both eli and tries to force kev to kill you (which he of course declines) and the Mexican gang basically starts bullshit everywhere.

Their reasoning is "SAINTS ROW was always supposed to be ridiculous" but seem to forget it wasn't futuristic and the the ridiculousness worked well and the story wasn't bad in both games even 3s isn't bad but so much stuff was cut out from the story the execution and pace is bad

Only ridiculous things in the original 2 are the playa's jokes in 1/gags like FBs and RJs (which this game took out)
2 which had an alien ship, certain Easter eggs for fun like GTA and jokes which where serious in nature but funny. For example Johnny's banter with Aisha was always over killing people or bodies on the ground, blood, the fact he always commiting a crime etc
The entire story was 100% serious.
The third turned whacky but it still somewhat grounded they just turned everything they had and made it bombastic.
-mexicans turned into wrestlers
-EDM era turned into a gang
-The doctor's mini games which was always a nice touch.
-stag (ultor) and the zombies now ain't a mini game but a mission
-certain weapons.
Etc, but it was still funny and had it's moments
4 was just fun, not the saints row game I loved but fun, same with GatOutOfHell Just mindless fun

They did the same for this new saints but completely bleached anything funny that the third provided and just kept the rest, tried to make it serious but the dialog is bad/ the reasoning for them starting a gang is dumb. People wanted saints Row 1-2 back not 3 rebooted into an unfunny pile of garbage.
Half of the world if not most of the people who grew up in the struggle playing the saints can't relate to this game anymore, this is why San Andreas is so beloved and why saints row had it's cult fanbase.
The game starts at a low and only gets lower.
@@ONI-GAMI what I think is funny is they didn’t reboot the series, they rebooted the 3rd one. Which I loved, loved the first 3 all were good or had their moments. But they didn’t reboot the series just the game that sold the best cuz gaming was becoming more mainstream so more people bought it lo and behold. Whereas if they gave us a actual gang warfare game it would’ve sold nice.

It was edm era, even saints row 4 was edm with the dubstep gun, one for the gangs of saints row 3 its focused on the edm Astetic and look.
I think they did playtest it, but given how the developers have reacted to criticism and what they've said in the past, I think they responded to anything negative by saying they were a bigot and threw them out of the building without pay.

The whole sandbox game in the desert really reminds me of the old xbox game Chili Con Carnage. Even the art style.
But the constant crashing and locking up on loading screens is absolutely driving me nuts. That and they got rid of the cockney bloke accent choice for the boss >.>

As a Saints Row fan, RIP 2006-2008 I was 15 when I first played saints row 2 back in 2011 and I fell in love with that game. So many great memories I had. I lost count how many times I completed the story. SR1 and SR2 will always have a special place in my heart ❤😔
I’m convinced that a lot of these developers, once they’re pretty sure a franchise is dead, will just dump it on off on a team of blue-hairs and xe/xers to keep their ESG score up.

@@BWMagus That is a very good comment although I like Volition. I am sure it isnt the same people as 20 years ago that made Red Faction, The Punisher, Descent and the original Saints Row games, but they are usually a good studio and pretty cognizant and self aware.

it was a thing in previous parts too (definitely SR the third dunno about SR4) but it didnt require nothing, just finishing the game.
The first act cutscenes are literally just friends without the laughtrack. But at least friends can be genuinely funny at times

Yah sadly modern game design philosophy in the west tends to homogenize the majority of games together making for a rather bland samey feel to the gameplay without adding anything new. If players want a fresh and creative game that goes against the grain go play elden ring.

There are less vehicles, the same animations, no real villain(unless you count capitalism), too many times I was saying to myself I wish this was three. And SR3 was where it started getting awful in my opinion. I can’t even beat the game because it keeps crashing
I loved every previous Saints Row game. Though I started with 3, and didn't play 1 or 2 until much later, and by the time I did play through them I had already also played through 4 and Gat Out Of Hell.
This Saints Row made me fucking depressed and miserable as I played through more of it, as I saw it crack and crumble around me more and more. The story isn't what made me so miserable, I was willing to excuse it. It was the gameplay, and the bugs. God the bugs are so bad, I don't know what's an intentional design choice or a bug. And the open world feels like it lacks something previous Saints Row games had, though i'm still not sure what.
It's really sad that Saint Row slipping in this shity direction.😭

Saints Row 2 is still more fun to go back to than any recent game in this vein. And that scene with Dutch Van Der Linde would've ended with him getting laid out and stomped for thinking hes funny.

My only issue with SR2 is that the PC port is god awful and horribly optimized (I literally get lags and FPS drops on a PC that can run RDR2).

The lead writer for this game was a woman, this explains the cringy sequences like the LARPing crap and the scenes where the characters talk about food and drinks. She's rumored to be in charge of Beyond Good & Evil 2.

Hell, even in the case there were and I agreed what you all that would mean would be that this game would be "aimed for women", therefore you don't get to criticize it. When gang violence from the three major gangs reached the district, he made the Third Street Saints gang out of desperation as an answer to protect the community and also saved the player character with his right hand, Troy, when the three other gangs clashed on Saints Row.
Saints Row 2: The Saints fell apart after the end of the first game, because someone in the gang was a traitor, so the player has to rebuild everything. Evidently, Ultor let three new gangs spread in the city so they could benefit from gang violence, and they also completely rebuilt the Saints Row district into a corporate utopia.
Saints Row The Third: The Saints, now media celebrities, rob the wrong bank and damn near lose everything to an organization called the Syndicate. Also everything is goofy now.
