I'm glad BLI is doing DCC/sound ready locomotives again in both HO and N, that way people can install the decoder of their choice in these locomotives! That being said, BLI has come a long way in a short time with the sound quality on these locomotives, it sounds great, happy new year!
It looks like a good running engine. If they are taking the time to put grab irons on the front add them to the back also. And to every NS engine out there put ditch lights on the rear. Thanks for the review.
SD40-2 is a nice unit. I have 2 HO scale ones. One is an athearn blue box undecorated, so i was able to do my own original livery. The other is unown origin. Also unpainted, but on the bottom it says Made In Yugoslavia. I think that one runs on AC.
great running I am just getting into operations and am building a exhibition layout with operations well that's the plan anyway time will tell hope you do more ops runs cheers Alan
That locomotive probably has a full range speaker to help produce low to high frequencies. Also the ohm load maybe 4 compared to the cheaper speakers with 8 ohms.
Happy New Year Jimmy! I love my BLI SD40-2. I have #6159 in NS livery and should have one in Santa Fe livery coming Wednesday. They are Paragon 3 though. Thanks for the switch session!
Happy New Year, Jimmy. I find DCC to be a mixed blessing. The sounds can add to the experience of operating, but the experience can turn nightmarish with as one adds more sound units - both locomotives, cattle cars, passenger cars, reefers, ambient, etc. It does not "scale" well. And then there are the lighting functions.... directional lighting, though a helpful cue as to the state of your locomotives, isn't prototypical. And I'm not sure what was going on in the cab of the sound equipped locomotive, but the light was FAR TOO BRIGHT. Oy! If we could see it during the day, your poor crew is going to lose their night vision every time the interior lights are turned on! 😮 I'm not familiar with the complexities of decoder board constraints, but I feel that each headlight should have independent high / low / off controls as standard at this point.
You pay for what you get… Some decoders have an option to dim the headlight. Some decoder have option to control the brightness of the bulb output too….
BLI has a really good manual and the ability to change CVs to change almost everything, including al the light and sound functions. Defiantly easier to modify to your liking than Loc Sound that needs a separate decoder programmer.
I noticed with my Paragon 4 ready steamer the chuffing sound skips/resets when decreasing speed at each step down. Is there a fix? If not, which decoder is recommended? One of the fellers at the club I'm planning to join gets his fitted with Loksound. Thanks in advance and Happy new year all!!!

The camera work during the op session was great.
Perfect model, but would prefer if the cab light was either not as bright as the surface of the sun, or could be toggled on or off
You can it's a easy cv change
Happy new year diy and digital railroad!!! Keep doing what you’re doing!

I really enjoy your collection of hoppers. Especially those weathered ones! They look great!

Fantastic model.
Happy New Year
The hoses should be on the outside of the plow.
I pre ordered the scale trains sd40-2 in n scale. Very excited. These look nice too! Happy new year
I have 2 of them and NS paragon 3 and a CSX paragon 4 both great runners. Had to permanently turn off the cab light though I couldn’t stand the look

Looks good👍🏻 happy new year.
Great operation video Jimmy love the sd40s looking forward to the scaletrains releasing soon
Got that one on my preorders too! Had to make sure I didn’t have the same number haha!
Nice looking engine, haven't ever had good luck with BLI though.
My wife bought me that unit for Christmas and I love it
She’s a keeper!

I do have one question, nscale hoscale, do they have the same tolerance for electrical continuity?
Do you have a video on how to change the numbers?
I have numbers on the way for mine. I will be doing a video soon.
Little confused there DYI that would be you 6105 That's the number I'm saying I don't see a six
The newest run?
They’ve done previous runs of the SD40-2 with older decoder series like Paragon 3z
Just another ask, would love to purchase your current layout, I live in TN, let’s talk…
Hello
Personally for n scale, I extremely dislike BL. I’ve tried multiple locomotives before and had nothing but garbage with them
You are the clickbait king. Do you ever feel bad for being this way? Probably not, it's all about money with you.
