The left one looks fashionable! It’s elegant and beautiful! The one on the right looks more victorian and reminds me a bit of Mary Poppins especially the hat!😂😂
Mary Poppins existed in the Edwardian Era, not the Victorian Era. Both of these outfits are Victorian. The Victorian Era spanned most of the 19th century.
Also, I just want to add that Mary Poppins obviously wasn’t accurately dressed for the era - Hollywood took a lot of liberties with historical films back then (as they do now, unfortunately).
Not only does this show that styles have changed, but also the efficiency and time saving that the more modern style bring by solving and making clothing pieces less complicated and a hassle.
Yep and add a war into the mix (and a pandemic) and the dresses went higher, undergarments got simpler and the whole silhouette changed - I'm thinking 1920s.
i am fully obSESSED with the 1850s dresses, always have been, idk why but they are so gorgeous i just, i can’t, STAWWWWPP AAHAHAHA THEY ARE SOOO BEAUTIFUL 😍 😭
Instead of improving, fashion went backwards. Now we’re in shorts, T-shirts and sandals. Don’t get me wrong I love my comfort clothes and won’t change it for fashion but nonetheless it’s still a pity.
Yeah but like if u think about it our fashion in 2020s has changed a lot from the 1990s which is basically the same year gap as the video. So i guess its understandable
Would’ve been cool if you compared two evening bodices or two day bodices rather then an evening vs day dress. Pretty cool look at the different sillohettes though
That's what I was thinking, is a lot of people aren't going to know the difference (judging by the comments) and assume that all the style differences are based on time period alone, and not also the disparity between ball gown and day dress. But it is still enjoyable to watch, and fun to look at the side by side difference in silhouettes. That silhouette difference is something I spend a decent amount of time explaining to people.
I noticed that, in a sense, the 1850s style fell behind in the pace for getting dressed. The 1880s got dressed a little faster and with less fuss. I think that general summation could be said of fashion over the decades and how it's become the simplified looks we wear now-everything has been gradually moving towards what's faster & easier to put on and what's most comfortable. So now you see chicks at the store in uggs and pajama bottoms rather than these beautiful looks- it was a lot of work to get dressed back then!

Sometimes I wish we could go back to those styles because they were so beautiful and elegant ❤ but then, I come to my senses and realize it takes me long enough to get ready to go somewhere in jeans and a t-shirt 😂😂😂
@@Maahiuniquegaming So you've never worn a tight article of clothing? Jeans etc? But, if you don't want to wear something, then don't. Nobody is saying you have to. If you don't like something, don't look at it. Nobody asked you to do that either. I was just saying that "I" thought it was a beautiful clothing era. That's my opinion and prerogative. Just as you have the right to your opinion
Actually, no, you don't have to be slim to be fashionable - most often it was quite the opposite. Not only were women of all shapes and sizes alive and living their glorious, fashionable lives, the biggest difference between pre-1920 and now is that until the 1920s the CLOTHES gave the fashionable silhouette, NOT the BODY. Abby Cox just put it a great video about why we don't have pockets that actually had a great discussion about the clothing making the shape - to include padding out areas that were lacking. Once we went to more fitted clothing, the fashion for slim = beautiful really took off. (Also, until the late 1890s thin = too poor to eat enough was also a THING. It was only with the birth of a leisure class focused on sports that thin became "in.")
I really want to wear a 1850's style dress but I don't have the money for all of the things and I don't think the money I'm getting of Christmas witll cover that😭😭😭😭😭💔💔💔💔
