Thanks so much. As I nearly only do single shots with 10-11 g I appreciate and credit high that you as an expert barista don´t recect a single shot in general as other "coffee experts". Thanks again. great chanel.
I let the machine warm up at least 20 minutes but if in a hurry, run a couple of dry shots to heat up the portafilter/basket. Makes a big difference, no sour shots.
Hi Hoon. Thank you for your great video. I have a Barista and use dark Italian roast coffee. My recipe is 17.5-18.1 grams beans, the Barista grinder at 4 ( I know this is relative to each grinder) the distributor and tamper, volume by weight at 36-40 grams, temperature up 2 degrees, it takes 26 seconds to extract. The taste is great, robust but sweet.
Some people mod the internal grinder to be stepless. Pretty easy to do and completely reversible. I'm wondering then if becomes on par with more expensive grinders
Interesting. Are there any applications or situations for that? Why would you want it to become stepless if during grinding the grindsetting wheel could move? Beats having a consistent shot not? Thanks. Only thing i can think of is that you can micro tune the grindsize with this change more than the machine or standard grindsetting allows you to.
Forgot to mention that pressure is at 11:30 to 12:30 consistently. My single wall double dose basket on my Infuser does not hold pressure due to oversize holes
Hey Hon, would you use the same grind size to run a double shot in a larger basket after doubling dose (say to 18g)? I would suspect this is not possible and you would have to dial in the coffee again for the larger basket which would result in a coarser grind size.
Good to see you time in pre-infusion. Does the dosing cup fit 54mm portafilter, looking for one. Also take out the black plastic in the portafilter, no need for shot to run through plastic. Keep up the good work.
Wayne Cheng same comment “timing start and black plastic”... Oracle comes with a textured and coated single basket - always better result to use double basket and pull a ristretto
Hoon, this is un-related to single shots, have you had to adjust the outer bur down from factory setting over time? I have put it down to 5 and the finest setting on the dial and the shots are always really fast. I was able to get shots to pull more slowly on outer bur set to 4 and dial set to 3 or 4. This feels really bad to do to the machine and seems like I shouldn’t have to grind so fine.
Hoon's Coffee yes, that is very well understood, what I don’t seem to be able experiment with is Volume Mode on an Oracle - said Express uses Volume Mode, that is why I asked FYI Oracle has Time Mode as a default and Volume Mode is in “advanced user options menu”... I have not found any info Volume Mode in the 6 years I’ve used Oracle machines The Oracle is a bit “stupid” in that is uses Volume for dosing and Time-Length for shot-amount, user only needs to adjust grind to dial-in a shot
There’s zero difference, it’s programmed by time, the single shot comes pre programmed to 25 seconds, double shot 30 seconds, pre infusion 7 seconds, 2.1 with a time window is only a go to guide. You could pull a shot at these ratios and it still tastes like an astray rinsed out with cat piss to some, you should be pulling shots to suit yourself and your own preferences
Hi, making single shot with this machine is painful.. The coffee ground is always muddy and the default factory setting for the single shot is just not right! Thank you for your tips and I will try to program the single shot button for correct amount of coffee out.

How long do you warm up with machine in the morning?
"it's much better... but I think we can do better" :) that should be yoir slogan hoon! great video as always. thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I am struggling with single basket, this video is really helpful.

I would love to see how they do that.
Please try this for your next vid Hoon

I have tested this, and in fact I think you can maintain the grind size and just double the dose if you have a two shot basket.
What was your internal grind setting?
if you want to use the single basket double shot is the way to go for sure on this machine. I love your videos man
It is bitter crema by itself. Personally I'm not a big fan of crema.
God bless you man thank you

whats your burr setting and grinder setting is here right now for the best result? regards

Hi,
After using single shot filter for some time. The extracted coffee came off as 1 piece. Not messy
So i need to change grind settings every time, for single or double basket. I think it not good.
Because i just use only double basket every time.
My puck comes out muddy. Any suggestions :-) thank you
Time Mode... have you figured out how to get good results with Volume Mode?
You need to look at time and volume to get good result.

Hey Hoon, have you tried using your distributor as a tamper by extending the length before? might make an interesting video... keep up the good work!
I did the video already. Works pretty good!
Espresso beginner here. My 10g bean yields about 30g espresso. The extracted coffee seems watery and doesn't come off as one piece. What's wrong?
Grind finer
is it not possible to grind a single shot into a double shot basket?
I don't think so.
I had mine on dial 5 and 9 and both sour. Why is that? Still trying to find the right combination. Day 2 of my new machine.
Try 2 or 3 and see. Also, make sure your machine is warmup first.
do you already change the internal grinder setup?
Oh geeze, mine puts out 41g in 18s, I'm sweating
U need to count from first drop…
Great!
The last shot you made is a double shot which lasted for 25 sec. You meant to make a single shot.

“good crema” - before mixing, try tastings the crema only... there is an interesting TH-cam video about the “salami shot” that takes this idea further
Why you use single wall basket but filter setting is for double ?
