  • The Cambridge ESV Diadem shares the same layout as the Pitt Minion, but it's 20% larger. It's available in edge-lined calfskin and pasted-down calf split, but with and without the Apocrypha. I'm reviewing the black calfskin without the Apocrypha, ISBN 9781108816083.

    My favorite bible I own is my KJV Concord as well! It’s the perfect size and the whole time I’ve been looking into finding another translation that’s closest to the Concord.
    Anytime I’m looking for a new bible to feed my bible addiction, you’re the first reviewer I look for. Your reviews are spot on and you answer any question I’d possible have. Thanks Randy!!

    You do an extremely amazing job with these reviews. I mean the most THOROUGH ever. I would love to get the Diadem, but I’m not so sure anymore what translation I would like to even get it in. I already have 2 KJVs (Pitt Minion & Cameo), 2 NKJVs (Pitt Minion & Study Bible), 1 NASB (Clarion) & 1 ESV (hardback wide-margin). All Cambridge but one. If I am being honest with myself, the wide-margin format has been the most useful in my studies. However… ESV is my least favorite translation and it’s the only one I have in the wide-margin format. It’s probably best I just wait to save up for another WM in a more preferred translation. I’ll keep my eye on the diadem for now until I can find a good enough reason to purchase one. I think it’ll work excellently as a gift though!

    My chief complaints with the Diadem hardcover I have are the text feels a little crowded to me (a little more leading would be welcome and it wouldn't take much) and the text is not dark black.

    I really need a verse by verse with a 12 point font. I don't walk around with a Bible tucked under my arm so I can deal with a large, heavy Study Bible with good references. I appreciate the thicker paper, but the lack of margins is also a negative, for me. It's a shame they didn't make the verse numbers using a larger, darker (or different color) ink. It definitely would have been a nice touch. I always enjoy watching your reviews because you show so many other Bibles to compare the Bible to. Thank you for all of the effort you put into your reviews. :)

    If they are going to edge line the Bible, why not just use a leather liner? I don’t see why they would use all premium materials and then cheap out on the liner and make it the weakest link.

  • @magdzioczek

    First review I watched was the topaz one , today I went on their website and saw all bibles in ESV and wanted to check the other ones, and watched few diadem “reviews “ but yours is the best!Its thorough and you mention everything you would ask for not like others … and also I’m glad you compared them ! Now I don’t know which one to get, I like the diadem , font looks more appealing to the eye and that eggshell colour. Is the diadem bigger gsm than the topaz? As for me is important to highlight and write , don’t want no bleed or ghosting if possible. Thank you for the review

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you!! Yes, the paper in the Diadem is thicker. It's 32gsm vs 28gsm for the Topaz. I haven't tried highlighting and making notes in the Topaz, but I've seen several photos and it does seem to work well for dry highlighters. I do think the Diadem would be better for highlighting. The Topaz does have the advantage of the extra space in the outer margins on most pages. That does make me want to use it for notes. I'll let you know if I try it.

      @@BibleBuyingGuide thank you for your reply:) calf skin is little expensive more than the topaz … they also have half split calfskin which is 100£ cheaper, would that be much worse in quality?

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@magdzioczek The main difference is the paste-down liner. It's reinforced, so it will last for a long time, but not as long as edge-lined. The calf split will show wear over time. It's also stiffer than the edge-lined leathers. I'm a fan of calf split myself.

    They should have used a smaller references font and enlarged the text to a 9 point font. The references even look odd taking up so much space on the page. 8.2 is a very small text font for that size Bible. It is still a good looking Bible. The small text font will keep me from buying it.

    It's a shame and a disaster that the leather editions are all in red letter only. Why would anyone buy that if we hate red letter? There seems to be a shortage or rarity of reference editions with leather or imitation leather format. I dont think there is any available, except the premium ones from crossway.
