Thanks for making these awesome videos on Alias and Blender and others. Been following them and learning alot. I always work with Rhino and now moving into Alias mainly because Surface matching and control in Rhino is very difficult and time consuming. This is very clear and a good work flow. Just trying to get use to the interface. Keep rocking it.
Nice tutorial very important intro i recommend dont skip it. I have a question, nurbs on maya are the same nurbs than alias? can i work on maya and export it later to check sizes ?
Thank you for the tutorials, they are really well done. May I ask you, as an industrial designer would be better to start to work on fusion 360 instead of alias? I'm a student and at our university they teach us alias, but I've seen that lately autodesk is doing some really good updates on fusion and it has a much more intuitive UI and workflow.
To me fusion doesn't have the surface control needed for high level surfacing, but then again it might eventually mature to have it. Theirs also many industries that don't need such high control over surface design. So it really depends on what you want to do. If their was something fusion could do that I couldn't do in Alias, I would probably move over, but theirs nothing I have seen that I can't easily do in Alias. Fusion is fun and I tend to play around with it from time to time.
Could you PLEASE !!! continue to make these step-by-step video projects on ALIAS MODELING ???? If you have the time could you put together a series on SUB D Modeling with Alias 2020 ???!!! These are the best tutorials on ALIAS that I've seen anywhere on the internet and/or in any books that I've read. Thanks in advance. Do you have a paid site??? Where you teach these type of lessons a nd the buyer can download the video's and help files???
got it sir..but your moves they are very fast to notice i had to download the video and slow it down in vlc for getting a view of the controls , like move, pick surface, i am stuck now at the creating copyon z axis of the 5.5 inch square generated using rail surface tool .

What is the advantage of Alias over the Rhinoceroses, I do not understand? The tools work much faster in Rnino. I saw only good tools for working with curves. And in general, the interface is understandable but uncomfortable, in the Rnino problem is solved by a series of commands.
NewHome this is the beginning of the video set and later we will get into much more advanced surfacing concepts that are much better to accomplish in Alias. Theirs a reason why Apple and other high end design firms use it, including every automotive design studio. I myself love rhino but I once things get very high end surfacing, Alias is much better.
@@HandleBar3D Hi there, In terms of creating quick curve sketches that can be used to pencil sketch over in Photoshop, which program has the most intuitive curve tools rhino/alias or any other? Im not interested in class a surfacing. just looking to create nice smooth curve sketches quickly which can be taken into photoshop or sketchbook to render over.
I definitely agree, it’s user interface has not been updated to modern times and expectations, the problem is the automotive industry hates change and theirs little competition. So you have clients that will always need it and no incentive to change. Maybe one day Rhino will be able to compete and that will force them to catch up with modern software.
@@algenovex depends on your uses. If it’s strictly automotive, not really. It’s not made for high level surfacing so it’s not there yet. For products and architecture and even just data management, Rhino was worth the investment for me.
@@HandleBar3D Thanks for the piece of advice. My goal is creating some high-def nurbs models to convert and retopology for videogames inside Blender (I guess), polygon modeling has too much limitations. Plus, being educated as an Industrial Designer, learning some multi-purpose CAD can always be useful, you never know... I think I'll stick around with Rhino, just need to start over again... long pauses are not good, those softwares are too complex and I forget them :D Thanks again
@@algenovex IMO, Rhino is good for many types of modelling including Generative modelling (via Grasshopper). But if you need to create very high quality single-spanned surfaces with excellent continuity, Alias is a better program.
I like your tuts and your skill bro, but ALIAS.....OMFG......I cannot sit through this pain, even though I want to learn a new software package. I ts unbelievably torturous to see such a horrible interface and redundancy coming from NX and Solidworks. Do you think Alias is more capable than NX for surfacing? if so in what ways?
I definitely agree with you, the user interface is very old and inadequate compared to others in terms of ease of use and even certain workflows. I think with any solid modeler like NX or Rhino you can get 99.9999 percent of what you want. But if your looking into automotive design this is your best bet. Theirs another called Icem but it’s the same in terms of user interface, just not very good. They questions isn’t so much is it more capable because It definitely is. The question is if you are going into automotive, then alias is your answer. In my 10 years and many different companies I worked for I have never seen NX or solid works in any automotive design studio
Finally, I found a tutorial on Alias that makes sense. Looking forward to the next video. Cheers!
To say that your videos are useful to me is quite an understatement. Thank you so much for taking the time!
Cell phone modelling tutorial starts at 25:30.
Not a bebe at modelling, but I am a bebe at Autodesk Alias. Good tutoria, thank you!!!

*bird noises" ah dont worry thats just my dog. lol wtf
Man, coming from Solidworks and Catia... Alias interface controls are so frustrating
thank you so much for the tutorials! you are such a great help!!! I started with the bmw car and got lost really fast hahahah
man great tutorial !!!!!
is it possible to change the symbol of the Surface CVs to a circle. Default it is a little cross.
30 days trail ok....lets start ..and thank you HandleBar3D for the hard work you took up for people like me GBU..

for this tutorial should i be working in: Default - General Usage or Modeling - Class A Surfacing ?

you can slow it down in youtube too.
Sir 14:41 its not working with alias Surface what do i do ??
I moved my marking menu around, look for the controls ON/control OFF, their default marking menu location is the bottom left and bottom right

James Brett hey sorry for the late reply I must have missed this comment, definitely rhino with make2d export tool would make this easy for you
its quite annoying how you keep rotating and zooming for no good reason when explaining something.
Other than that, nice tutorial.
I cannot even pan or rotate. And I've been around CADs for years. What's wrong with Alias? Such a odd interface, looks like a 90s CAD.

「There is no "explicit control" in my skin control. Where can I find it? My version is Alias 2017.」
eric miku you need to be using Alias surface or autostufio or pro not design
「Got it. BTW thank you for the video. I really need this.」
is this made in alias design or surface or automotive?
