Give this guy some credit. I think it's good that he incorporated the "unnecessary" steps. Repetition and repeating torque specs from other videoes can be very useful information. There's more than one way to do something. If the end result is a success it doesn't matter how you got there. I can't stand it when other techs tell me I didn't need to remove XYZ. I get it out of my way so I can make the job easier on my bones. Wanna struggle? Have fun with that.
Okay I just did mine and this guy's definitely doing a bunch of unnecessary work. I didn't have to undo my end-links at all. I didn't have to undo my shocks at all. I didn't have to undo my tie rods at all. Basically I just removed the upper ball joint removed the axle nut and removed the brake caliper just in case it was going to pull on the brake line with everything loose and that was it. Shafts pulled right out no issues at all easy peasy and I don't think I'm going to need an alignment since I didn't mess with my tie rods at all.
I appreciate this video because it also shows the replacement of the shocks as well as the CV axle. Both of which I am going to do so this is the perfect video for me. I think adding the shock into the title might lessen the grief some people have with this video.
@@GeorgeToft yes its likely a rust belt xterra as you can tell the entire suspension is rusted out. I imagine this is an 05-07 model as well based off the wheels that this xterra has so its many years old+rust belt=nasty haha

I did not remove the shock. Just undo the lower bolt to let the lower control arm swing down for access space.
Way more disassembly than necessary. Upper ball joint, tie rod and axle nut is all you need to do.
Is this video cut and pasted from several jobs? There were inconsistencies in specs and parts after putting in the new cv axle.
My xterras underside looks exactly the same. Heavily salted roads in the winter time speeds rusting
New axle won't go in
nice to have a lift. Some of us would be on the garage floor with a floor jack. A replacement in the field on the trail is a true repair.
Would this work on 2006 Nissan frontier also?
Could these steps work for my '17 pathfinder?
What can happen if you were to leave the inner clip off of the spliced shaft?
Very good and clear .
Very good thank you
Did I miss you removing the 4 bolts holding the axle
Is it normal or does this xterra have a rust problem?
I live in the desert - no rust. I figured this was an East Coast vehicle.
