Thanks man. I didn't remove the ball joint and it saved me some work. Thanks for the video. I went and bought the 1/2" impact and that made it super easy.
Yeah, after wasted time unsuccessfully trying the ball joint method, I removed the strut bolts. I outlined the position with a sharpie before removing bolts which aided in reassembly. Several videos show the ball joint method for my nissan rogue. For my outback they show the strut method. Even 1a. Would not attempt the strut method again. They should redo this version IMHO.
+MrGarrett1966 Thanks for checking us out! Not all repairs can be easy all the time, this will also give a look into a vehicle that is a little more, challenging, so to say!
Easier way to get the ball joint out. If the control arm has ever been replaced (likely if you are driving an '09 Rogue) there is probably a dimple in the middle of the ball stud. Put a punch attachment on your air hammer and angle it downwards with the point resting on the dimple. (The shaft of the punch will be alongside the axle hub.) Pull the trigger and watch the stud gradually inch downwards - it doesn't damage the stud or anything else. Pretty nice n' easy. This even worked for me for the older ones when there wasn't a dimple in the stud, but the dimple makes it easier.
on models with aluminum rims, the lug nuts are 21mm and not 19mm. and the lower control arm has to come completely off in order to get the ball joint out of the spindle. it will not come out otherwise. it will hit on the frame.
When I try to put the driver side axel back it it doesn’t go in all the way and when I look in the hole I see a thick metal cylinder pin blocking it deep inside making it not be able to go all the way inside. Any suggestions or help?
Is this an AWD model or 2WD? And if so is there a difference in the process? A shop told me that there was a front subframe assembly that had to be removed to do this repair because my rogue is AWD.
Ive separated from the top and it didnt affect my alignment, I replaced the knuckle, ball joints and wheel hub and she still drove straight as an arrow after
You also don't even need to fool with the ball joint at all for this repair. Just take out the 2 21mm bolts off the strut above and the whole knuckle drops down to give room to remove the axle.
+Bryan Rowell There usually isn't a very good way to do that due to where it's mounted. Usually, they can be tightened well with a wrench. Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
I'm looking at the parts you are woking on and my drivers side aLL THREE are broken the axel and balljoint and I don't know what the other on is called
Dealer quoted $800 for a driver side CV axle replace. Even worse, on the same quote they had: Lower control arm bushings $1150 Transmission replace $4280 So the estimate bills for the same labor multiple times. Somebody has to sue one of these days.
In FL for one side $300 to $400. Or buy your own part and they'll just charge you labor. Don't let them BS you. It takes under an hour. Really 30 minutes for an experienced mechanic to install. It should cost no more than what they charge for 1 hour of labor. You could cut your cost in half buying the part(s) yourself.
Tip: Turn the axle.. Try to pry/hammer it out.. Then turn again and try to pry again. Keep going that.. Eventually the the c ring will line up nicely and let you pop it out..
When he was taking that nut off he was turning it to the right as he would tighten it as right handed thread then he says I'm going to take the nut off then he was turning it to the left what's up with that?
I just did this job and it didn't free up with PB blaster and a few hammer wacks. This one was a bit more of a pain. The best tool to use is an air hammer with a 18 inch pneumatic taper punch. That'll get it off the quickest.
YUP !! my daughters car is a 2009 Rogue and 150,000 miles. Her driver side CV boot is broken. I plan to replace the seal while I am already replacing the CV axle. This way I know everything should be good for another 100,000 miles

Well your alot smarter than thi s guy hey what is the snap ring on the end of the spline fpr
I usually remove the strut bolts, seems easier than removing the ball joint. Either way an alignment is recommended. Either way works tho💯
Same here

One of the best how to videos. Very thorough instructions.

Need to do a follow-up video for the Rear CV Axels. For the Nissan Rogue.
Excelente video. How to order both cv axles for muy Nissan Rogué 2008 from 1A AutoParts?
I can hear the customer pacing back and forth in the waiting room everytime you hit that ball joint
thanks again guys! I just placed my order from your website.
+Brandon Deemter Thank you for your order! We'd love to hear about your experience. Here's a link to leave us a review on Google: goo.gl/i5JFNY
The pinch bolt nut was only torqued to 20 ft-lb? Are you sure that is the correct torque spec?
Yes the pinch bolt holds the balljoint not the pressure of the pinch 🧐
I took off two cv joints before you got one off I just want to know what the snap ring on the spline end of axle shaft is for
Thanks. 10:30...I can't get The axle fully back in the hub so it pokes out enough to put the nut on to pull it out.
I like the way he twisted the nut

Good job guys
This is awesome.Great vid!

No difference but the parts aren't interchangeable
Can you make or share a video for the drive shaft replacement?! By TY
Could you separate the knuckle from the top instead of the ball joint?
Yes, you could separate it from the shock (top mount). But you will change your alignment and have to get it reset.
Ive separated from the top and it didnt affect my alignment, I replaced the knuckle, ball joints and wheel hub and she still drove straight as an arrow after
You don't need the ball joint press. You need a ball joint separator.
You also don't even need to fool with the ball joint at all for this repair. Just take out the 2 21mm bolts off the strut above and the whole knuckle drops down to give room to remove the axle.
This video is starting at minute at 7:59 has where I'm at right now except their wheel is still attached
How to order cv joint for nissan serena model 2003
Did you torque the ball joint nut also?

mag steel dealers are pieces if shit
My knuckle was seized to the ball joint to the point where I had to replace both. Ended up cutting the knuckle off with a cutoff wheel.
Oh God buddy. You could have undone the two bolts that hold the strut to the knuckle . I've done this cv axle before in like 20 minutes 😂
@@writeupking LOL
How much do shops ruffly charge for this work?
Around $300-$400

How did you get it out?
Why use copper anti seize rather that the silver?
You dont need ball joint separator I did it with a hammer and pb blaster in like 5 mins
+Dylan Wagner Thanks for the feedback!
Love how easily he gets the axle out, meanwhile I've already broken 2 chisel's and 1 pry bar trying to take out mine 😒😑
Tip: Turn the axle.. Try to pry/hammer it out.. Then turn again and try to pry again. Keep going that.. Eventually the the c ring will line up nicely and let you pop it out..
is the axle nut reverse threads?
No
When he was taking that nut off he was turning it to the right as he would tighten it as right handed thread then he says I'm going to take the nut off then he was turning it to the left what's up with that?
I usually love your guises videos, but with this one it seem like you're missing the whole section of putting it through the rotor
What about the oil came out?
What about the oil came out
Lol you were careful to leave the nut on when hammering the axle out but when hammering in the NEW one you just went right ahead
Thanks for checking us out. 1aauto.com +Jordy Rodriguez
they used a different style hammer. its a dead blow hammer, not made with steel. no deformation on the new part would be possible
I’m having trouble getting my half shaft out on a 2018 Nissan pro 4 X crew cab 4X4
That ball joint separator tool is unnecessary all you need is a couple wacks with a hammer and a prybar.
+scarface17857 We appreciate the feedback. Sometimes there are multiple ways to accomplish the same repair.

Why wouldn’t you replace the oil seal?? That’s not smart.
As a mechanic, I would have 100% no point not too. Could very easily damage or be leaking already.
