you're a great teacher. I'm new to Cricut. I just bought an Explore Air 2 and I have no idea how to use it. I'll be watching more of your videos for guidance.
Hello, I just wanted to say you are an excellent teacher! I watched one of your videos today, and since I worked with a roland cutter at work (now retired) I am familiar with many things to get a clean image to cut, I just didnt know how to on the cricut until today! Thanks so much, im grateful I took the time to scan through the videos and found yours! Needless to say I am subscribed now, and you ROCK!!!
I guess things have changed since you made this tutorial im new to all of this but you are an excellent teacher so I will just keep rewind to learn lol thank you so much
I learned alot. I was following along with you and realized Design Space changed since you made this. The only part that confused me is when you said to flatten the image and I didn't have that option, but I got to the same result as you. Thanks for sharing!
OMG, you are awesome! Thank you so much for your videos. I'm new to Cricut and you have helped me navigate through the software better than any of the other videos I've looked at.
Thank you! Trying to figure out my first ever Cricut and every video I've watched, including those on the Cricut website, assume I know what I'm doing. You explained it all very clearly. I took notes and now am going to give it a try!
Very clearly explained, and it really helped that you repeated the instructions a second time. I'm going to save this video so I have something to refer to in case I forget. Thank you, Lorrie, for making something that looked so difficult actually become very simple. Now, on to your other videos...
Thank you so much, I had to figure out the cricut explore Air 2 key strokes, but this was a BIG HELP...Thanks I messed up enough vinyl yesterday...ahhhh
Thank you for this video finally was able to learn how to convert my embroidery files so I can cut fabric with my cricut explore air 2. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I appreciate this video. I was stuck and now I am UNSTUCK...lol, Your video was very easy to understand, love the review. Thank you for sharing. I've subscribed to your channel. Cant wait to see all other videos you may have,
Robin Mudd / SimpleDesigns thank you so much. However Design Space has been updated since this video. Here is the current tutorial. th-cam.com/video/6YIUCJbDT_E/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for this video but I am having a hard time following in the new Cricut Design Space 3. Have you done an updated 2018 version of how to do this?
hi i have cricut now but before i had a silhoutte so i have all my projects designed with silhouette studio how you can suggest to transform the file? are not just picture but a complete work with image and writing. thanks in advance for any helps
Great video, when you do the print and cut option.. do you have to print image before you can cut ? I have an explore. I found PNG format, tried to up load but could not get to cut. looked like it was cutting but blade never touch paper. Any ideas?
Sarah Pfoltner are you sure you had the blade pushed in all the way? Did you have the image set to cut? Without seeing the image and screen it's hard to diagnose
Thanks so much for this tutorial. I buy alot of printable stickers but my problem now is on a weekly kit if I click the erase background after uploading it-it erases inside my sicker boxes on some parts how do I fix that?!
Hi I love your video but my design mat is not like that so i can't follow you I just bought my cricut cut machine it does not have any of the points you are showing is there a updated one
Can you please make a video showing how you would cut digital stamps on the explorer? I guess you would the print and cut feature but I would like to see the process. Thank you
Mine is not doing any of that- I struggle with this so much 😕 so when I upload I automatically see that checkered board pic after I hit complex- so this I what I want to see? Im working off of a windows laptop not sure it that matters
I just bought the Maker and I am trying to learn Design Space but when I upload an svg file I do not get options to ungroup or unflatten. It is all one layer although the image has two colors. I cannot separate the colors. What am I doing wrong?
The tutorial seems to be easy to follow - however I still am having issues. I have and Explore Air, bought it in fall 2016. I have tried to go step by step - but the design of your screen layout is different - and when I try to separate my design - first with the outline - I can get that, but how do I save it to my desktop as you have? It does not save there or even anywhere in the design space projects. I am stumped and I usually can figure out computer stuff - but this one has me baffled.
Hi Lorrie, I have an Explore Air2 that I just bought and I am not a beginner so most of the things you were showing were not new to me. I was watching your video so I could see where things were located in the Design program. However, I also noticed that the version that you are using in this video is a Beta 2 version. My version of Design Space is 5.12.84 The commands you were presenting using the Beta 2 version are completely different from version 5.12.84. When I tried doing some of the things you were showing I could not find them where you indicated. I also noticed that the Beta 2 version did not have a ribbon menu bar as the version 5.12.84 does. Maybe it might be a good idea to try using the newest upgrade. That may help some of the newer Design users to be able to follow you and not be confused--I know I was especially when you were showing where an item could be changed from CUT to PRINT etc. I hope my comments will help in future videos.
Hi I have been watch in ur video and I was wondering if I have a Cricut Expression one of the first circuits machines that can out. can I use the cricket design space? Can I do what you are explaining on my type of machine or do I need a newer version of the cricut machine ? thanks jp
i see how you change the jpg to an svg but then i am lost ast to how you can cut that image using vinyl i am sure this is a stupid question but i am a little slow lol i love my cricut air but i want to learn how to do something right before i upload it my issue is when you make it a cut file there are not any layers then or did i miss that part help would be greatly appreciated
Hi Lorrie!! I just wanted to say thank you so much for this tutorial. I am new to the cricut world and I can't tell you how much this has helped me. I have a question. What if I wanted to trace the entire image then cut it out. Can you please do a tutorial on how this can be done? Any help would be much appreciated. Sincerely #cricutnewbie ☺
Marianne Petralia this is a flat image. If you just wanted the eyes you'd have to upload and use the eraser tool to delete all of cat except the eyes and then save those and then target the nose, etc
I really need help ASAP for a project today. I can not figure out how to make a stencil using the candybar TWIX logo.Doing a tshirt and want to paint the red letters with the white outline. Is this possible please help
Thanks for the video. However, we've been getting double lines representing the edges of the JPGs. That makes for double cutting too. Any easy ways to avoid this please ?
Hi my ? is I have an cricut expression one of the very first ones that came out. my ? Is do I have to buy a newer version of cricut like an cricut air or cricut 2 and so on. please help me I need to know so I can upgrade my machine. thanks jp
+Lola Wilkie The Cut What You Want® tool in Cricut Design Space™ for PC and Mac® allows you to upload and use your own images for free. While you cannot use the app to upload images, once they’ve been uploaded they’re linked to your Cricut ID and are available on the iPad® app as well as your computer found in the manual for the app: content.cricut.com/b/pdfs/explore_manual/_cricutdesignspaceappusermanual.pdf
Trina Maeweathers I ended up just uploading the print onto the design space website instead of just the software. That worked a lot better and it’s the same thing
Do i need to have a subscription to access all the options? I tried to upload my own image and it only gives me the option of basic upload not vector and it does not give me the preserve original image option
There was an update to design space since this video. Now you use basic upload for both jpg and vector images. The next screen will now say save as print then cut or cut image. Print then cut is the same as preserve ordinal image. I do have an updated video
Jenna Danville Jenna....I am new to this but I believe you can only do this on a computer and not thru the app (on iPad or phone). The folks at Cricut are working on doing this in the app but have not released a version that allows you to do that. Hope this helps.
Lorrie, love your work. Could u show me how to do a Dallas Cowboy Star with the traces of the Star with the white and the gray. My husband is a fan and i refuse to do a Dallas Cowboy glass until i can figure out the outlines on my Cricut Explorer because I am new to the game. Thank U Charlotte
Where can I find printed info on how to do all of this? I'm the kind of person who does better with printed information Thanks for your help Linda from Clinton
Love your videos. I have ordered Explore Air 2. I am sorry for what may seem stupid question, what confuses me is, when image has different colors in it, do you have to separate all the diff colored bits out to cut separately?
Fiona Nelson that question is asked a lot. Yes, you need to import each color separately. You can also try to use the contour feature and turn on/off various pieces to zero in on certain colors. It depends how the image was made but that method works a lot of the time
Lorrie...what would you do if you wanted Explore to do a draw or write to be able to draw the features so you can color them in later with you're own colors...How would you do it if you wanted to do that....thanks..............pat
patricia posk you would change the image to write by clicks jpg in it in the layers panel and choosing cut. But it’s not going to draw all of the details unless you delete the white space out. I’ll try and do a video soon
I am not sure what you mean by print and cut? I get the outline cut, but will it make all the parts of the cat? If not, is there a way to make all the parts from a clip art cat? Pardon my ignorance, but I am just getting started.
+Lorrie Nunemaker Great video. I am trying to side if I will purchase this new machine to upgrade from my older Cricut. How can you create a layered cut from an image you import (JPG, GIF, PING)?
Can I upload an image from my own file? I want to print out bible tabs for my bible. I have a pattern sheet for the tabs but don't know if Cricut would cut them out or not.
HI love this video I have a question can you do a video were you get a Mickey Mouse image from goggle and you do the print and cut but I want to add a boarder around the image and have it cut from that boarder do it could have a white boarder around the image hope you can help me thanks
Lorrie, I am trying to make a cut file for a logo from our local High School. I followed all your instructions and got the outline of the image but It is layered and has 3 colors. I want to cut it out using vinyl. How to do?
You need to upload one color at a time. Clean up Everything but one color, then do it again with another color then you will have to piece it together. You can I group a flat image
The way to do that would be to import and clean up each "layer" of the png separately, then bring them all into the mat at once. For Instance, If you were doing a png of a pumkin... you would import it as a basic image and delete everything but the stem and save that, then do it again and delete everything but the orange part of the pumpkin, and save that, then put both on your mat.
+Lorrie Nunemaker Would it be easier to ungroup the image in another program and then save the layers? For instance with the pumpkin example: 1) Ungroup the pumpkin in an application like PowerPoint. 2) Copy and create as many slides as you want layers. We will keep it simple for this example and say we want a stem, shadow, outline, and orange pumpkin, so that would be 4 slides. 3) on each slide delete the pieces you don't want and save the file, e.g. Pumpkin shadow, pumpkin stem, etc. 4) Then bring in each image onto the mat?The reason I ask is I tried to clean up an image I brought into Design Space and it was not fun. It would be easier to work in a better graphic manipulation tool like Coral Draw, Illustrator, or even something as simple as PowerPoint to ungroup Microsoft clipart.
Thank you, Lorrie. Very clear instructions . I live close to you, Elkhart.

Thank you, great instructions to follow.
Lorrie - Is there a "trace" feature in Cricut Design space? (I know there is one in Silhouette that I really loved but I have a Cricut now!) TIA =)
When i right click I get a huge pop up on the right side ??
Lori, on your png image you only get a silhouette doing it your way. What about the cat's face (eyes etc). How do you get them to cut?
Marianne Petralia this is a flat image. If you just wanted the eyes you'd have to upload and use the eraser tool to delete all of cat except the eyes and then save those and then target the nose, etc
My cricut workspace says “canvas” at the top, and there are no buttons to work with like on your “design space”
Can you use this in Cricut craft room ? - only have the cricut expression - pls help !!

I can't see the eye! Any tips on where I can find it?
Thanks for the video.
However, we've been getting double lines representing the edges of the JPGs.
That makes for double cutting too. Any easy ways to avoid this please ?
netdudeuk that shouldn’t happen unless you’re deleting the I side and outside of the lines
Thanks for the prompt reply. Please could you be more specific ? Thanks.
Can you import from a program you have on your computer like from Hallmark greeting card?
Thanks, just what I was looking for!

Hello which Cricut are you using?
Do i need to have a subscription to access all the options? I tried to upload my own image and it only gives me the option of basic upload not vector and it does not give me the preserve original image option

+Lorrie Nunemaker thanks for the clarification!
If i have a logo that is a png can i put it in design space and cut the layers
Viper4249 you can but you have to import each layer separately
Do you have to be on an actual computer ? When on my iPad app I don't see an upload option ???
Jenna Danville Jenna....I am new to this but I believe you can only do this on a computer and not thru the app (on iPad or phone). The folks at Cricut are working on doing this in the app but have not released a version that allows you to do that. Hope this helps.
Jenna Danville yes you are correct. You cannot upload an image from the app at this time
You need to use pc, iPad is not compatible.
Thank you so much I just got the explorer air and just wanted to cut couldn't figure out out
Now, how do I make the jpg image I want and the words I'm using become one mat???

…molte grazie ✨
Love your videos. I have ordered Explore Air 2. I am sorry for what may seem stupid question, what confuses me is, when image has different colors in it, do you have to separate all the diff colored bits out to cut separately?
Yes, you have to import one color at a time
Lorrie Nunemaker do you have a video for how to import each color layer?
Oh thank you Lorrie as seeing is major for me.....lOL at 84 it really helps...................pat thanks.
Is it possible to print a project in Design Center and then cut it at a later time?
Cindi Fuss Hi did you find any answer? I have the same concern
Cindi Fuss you can do this however you have to be sure you do not move he image whatsoever when you reopen it to cut it
Hi
does this software have the feature to curve the font?
Yes
Great thanks for sharing was really confused last night now I know thankyou :)
I am not sure what you mean by print and cut? I get the outline cut, but will it make all the parts of the cat? If not, is there a way to make all the parts from a clip art cat? Pardon my ignorance, but I am just getting started.
HeartofNoah7 By Print then Cut I mean print the entire image and cut around the edge of it. As if you're printing a sticker
Absolutely.
Mine will not work. It is a pdf file.
You need to use a j0g, gif, tiff or png. Pdf
Files are not supported by most graphic programs
Thank you Lorri.
HI love this video I have a question can you do a video were you get a Mickey Mouse image from goggle and you do the print and cut but I want to add a boarder around the image and have it cut from that boarder do it could have a white boarder around the image hope you can help me thanks
You want to get her banned from YouYube? Mickey is copyrighted! Clipart is not.
Lorrie,
I am trying to make a cut file for a logo from our local High School. I followed all your instructions and got the outline of the image but It is layered and has 3 colors. I want to cut it out using vinyl. How to do?
You need to upload one color at a time. Clean up
Everything but one color, then do it again with another color then you will have to piece it together. You can I group a flat image
Do you happen to have a video for doing 3 colors? I'm trying to figure it out also, and having such a hard time. Trying to do a team logo. TIA xo
Ty ty ty! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you, this video was very very helpful.
Very helpful! Thank you!
can I make this into an iron on?
how would I print only and not cut an image.
Just don't put it on the mat to cut ?
I don't have the eyeball on my screen. It would allow me to do anything within my 'square shape'
Is there a way to make the png into layers to cut?
The way to do that would be to import and clean up each "layer" of the png separately, then bring them all into the mat at once. For Instance, If you were doing a png of a pumkin... you would import it as a basic image and delete everything but the stem and save that, then do it again and delete everything but the orange part of the pumpkin, and save that, then put both on your mat.
Lorrie Nunemaker Thank you.
Wow I love your video tutorial you make so easy!!! Thank you 😊
It would have been helpful if you gave the website link in the description.
SuperKnowledgeSponge website link for what ? This is a video about how to use print then cut. There is nothing to link to a website
Great thanks for the info.
Brilliant thankyou
Very good instruction... Thanks
Thanks! Perfect!
Thank you so much!
Thanks for help!
Thank you so much!!!!!
