when printing, do you have to print it on paper first or can you start cutting it with the cricut? would you have to piece any of it together?

By far the best video explanation... unfortunately I can't get it to work at all. :( When you slice your font and first apple I don't even get a slice option. Sigh...

Very cool. I didn't really like the 2nd one either. I wonder could you slice one letter at a time because it looked okay before you welded them together.
yes you can - go to the right side panel and hold the shift key - then click on the letter (i.e. G) that you want to slice and the apple shape in the list - it will select only those two items and do the slice.
How can you save your creations to use again in other project? I am new in cricut space and I still learning, loving all your video tutorials :)
top right of your screen, there is a "save" button - name it and it will now appear in your "my projects" line

I try to do this with one shape and two words and it didn’t give me the slizing option. If I do step by step using only one word on top of the shape it worked. But, if I add an extra word to fill up the top of the shape at the end it didn’t give me the slizing option. I was using a sewing machine silhouette. Wanted to write a word for the top part and another one on the bottom. Do you know what am I doing wrong? Thanks!! Loved your tutorial!
use the column on the right side (holding shift) to select the two things you want to slice - that should work
Hi love ur video but i have a question i payed for a year of cricut acesss n havent been able to purchase any of the disney images when i go to images n go to catagories n click on disney images it says no results found can u tell me why am i doing something wrong please can u help
So when I go layers it will only show contour it will not let me slice at all... so any idea on how to fix that?? i went step by step
make sure you have both layers selected. If your text isn't one layer select all the letters and weld them, then select the word and image and slice.
I don't see the Layers Edit Sync Canvas Menu at the top when I click on my image.I only see "Layers' and "Color Sync). I even clicked on my image and under layers I don't get the "slice" option. I only get 'group" & ungroup. :(
is the design space free or part of a subscription? Also does this work with the gypsy?
Design Space is free, but you get access to better stuff via their Access (subscription) program. Design Space works only with Cricut machines.
How would you cut this out as one piece?
How do you print this so it lines up correctly with using 2 colors? I figured out how to cut on one mat with 2 colors, but I am not sure how to line it up properly so I don't need multiple transfer paper tape pieces and do each part separately.
Go and seek a video on how to add registration marks.
What is the slice for?

you would click on each element separately (top bar, toward the left - there are now two boxes that have the color of the item and next to it the fill option - click fill and select PRINT to turn the thing into a printable image. Do that for all the pieces you want to print together
Is this just on the desktop?
My "weld" and and "slice" option are not doing this :(

The program is called Design Space - it is from / for Cricut machines.
I just received a cricut maker for my birthday and have been watching design space tutorials, none of which have been helpful:( I followed along with this video but my slice option in design space is blacked out and will not allow me to slice anything! Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Slice will only do two selections at a time, that's why it's blacked out

@rhonda i figured it out, you have to hold the shift key and then click on each piece- then the slice icon will activate
what about if it is not text ? What is it is letters from google ? I traced a word but it won't even let me mold It around a word. please if anyone can help I WOULD APPRECIATE IT!!!
After i get the image sliced apart and put 2019 in the image and select ALL the Slice function is not able to be used..what am i doing wrong?
You must group the letters back together by selecting all the letters and click weld. This will make the letters one layer again and slice should be available.

I chose the heart from DS but i can't figure out how to slice...the slice is greyed out. tia
Mary Rubendall you’ll need to highlight the entire heart in order to slice.
I get all the way to the select with the name in front of the apply and then i go to try and slice it and it wont slice at all. I have watched this video about 5 times to see what im doing wrong and its the same thing every time. I need help please.
If the name is ungrouped while you organize it in front of the apple, you should weld the letters back together, then highlight the word and apple (did you remember to move the apple leaf away from your "work area"?). Slice only works with two elements at a time.

Please come to my home and show me. Still confused! I think this is what I want to do with a rectangle shape with the letters inside it, but cannot figure out how to do it.
I've tried the second slicing of the Apple about a zillion times and it will not work. Slicing the green part worked but not slicing the words from the Apple. Please advise!
+Kiersten Gordon Did you make sure all the letters that you ungrouped (if you are doing the same steps as I did), are welded together. Remember, when slicing, make sure the image you are slicing is one layer and the image you are using to slice is one layer.
+Two Hearts One Love Designs I was able to figure out the slicing but the letters were cut inside the apple and not forming the apple if that makes sense?
It won't let me slice.. Does the font by chance make a difference?
No, the font does not make a difference - but if you ungrouped the letters to manipulate them to your liking, weld them together before you try to slice.
AAAHHH, I am doing everything as shown and then I go to print and it has not done anything I programmed it to do. The design space puts the words out in a line (for best printing) and my square image i put in isn't even there!!! Please help
As of the most recent Design Space update, you have to highlight each piece (separately) then up in the top left there is the color box (shows color of the item) - next to that is the pattern box - pull that down and select PRINT. Do this for each element in your design.
what if there is no slice available?
Move the green leaf out of the way, then make sure your word is together as one object (either in its' original form or welded back together after you manipulate the letters to your liking). Then highlight the word and apple, slice should be available at that point.
Ugh whenever I ungroup letters doesn’t let me slice :(
Group them back together once you've got them how you want them by holding shift and select them all. Then click weld to make them one layer again. Should be able to slice them then.

Dwayne White the software is all the same not matter which Explore you have. There have been some updates to the software since this video was uploaded.
