Please guys, react to the movie *Society of the Snow* (in Spanish: La Sociedad de la Nieve) is a film based on real events, directed by J. A. Bayona, (the same director of "The Impossible"), the Snow Society is centered on the Uruguayan Andes Flight disaster of 1972.
As you've seen for yourself, Helen Goff was an extremely complex and deeply troubled woman. No matter what you think of her you have to respect her for fighting to protect Mary Poppins from becoming overly Disneyfied. Emma Thompson is amazing in this.

FUN FACT: When Cameron Macintosh approached PL Travers about adapting Mary Poppins to the stage, she said the only condition is that nothing from the original movie be used, with the solitary exception of the Sherman Brothers music! I think that goes to show how incredible they are
I am so happy the Sherman Brothers got the credit they were due Most people don’t realize they were the creators of most of Disneys as a whole first sounds, music and soundtracks

Colin Farrell should be given recognition for his role in this because my goodness, was I taken by his charm and yes, I cried.
What an incredible story. Fun Fact: The Sherman Brothers (Robert and Richard) had worked at the Disney studio from 1960 to 1973. They wrote more than 200 songs for 27 films and two dozen television productions.
There's a few reasons why she hates the color red:
It was partly to test Disney and partly because she actually does detest the color. When Travers’s aunt showed up tohelp, she pulled bright red flowers out of her bag. Red reminds her of a tough time for her family. Strike one for red. Secondly, and more importantly, Travers does not like the color because it reminds her of the blood her father coughed up when he was sick with tuberculosis.
And yet there are scenes of her having red on her nails and lipstick. Was the for the film or did she really wear that color?

When I heard about this when they were promoting it, I never imagine anyone playing Walt Disney himself. Tom Hanks was born to play it. Love how he caught the mannerism, spirit and energy of Disney. Emma Thompson was incredible as we see not just an author who loves her characters but a person who loved her father very much. This is what got me to actually watch Mary Poppins

When you hear Walt tell his story about his father, you realize that's why he wanted Mr. Banks to have a mustache. Because Mr. Banks is HIS father, at least, in the way that he wants to remember him. As a tribute to his father, you also will see Elias Disney's Newspaper store in Disneyland on Main Street. They briefly showed it in the film when Walt escorts P.L. Travers through the park. Walt looks up at it for a moment.
This movie is very underrated ! Very beautiful to explain how Mary Poppins is a movie which could be produced. Emma Thompson and Tom Hawks are playing their roles perfectly and emotions are so strong. I enjoyed the moment at Disneyland where Walt Disney went to a ride with Pamela L.Travers. The moments in the past of the main character are really granted and the movie always shows himself serious and effective in his scenario. One of the best live action movies Disney ever done.
Regarding what happened to her mother: that actually is pretty accurate to what happened. The only difference is Travers wasn't there to stop her.
She did go out to the water, almost drowned, survived, and wasn't the same afterwards, but Travers didn't save her.
I loved Emma Thompson in this because she was absolutely iconic and no-nonsense. Very Nanny McPhee but with colourful characters in Hollywood.

As someone who hopes to one day publish a book I empathize with how protective P.L. Traverse was of her stories. I couldn't imagine putting your heart and soul into a story only to have Hollywood turn it into something completely different.
As recent books to movies have often failed to represent the worlds in books: Shannara Chronicles, Divergent, the Witcher, and while the show Percy Jackson is going well the first movie didnt. Its only natural a lot of writers are being protective of their worlds.
Years after, P.L. Travers publicly gave her real thoughts on the movie, saying: “I’ve only seen it maybe once or twice. I’ve learned to live with it. It’s fine film on it’s own, but I really don’t think it represents my books.”
P. L. Travers HATED the Mary Poppins movie. After the premiere she demanded that Disney removed the animated scenes. Disney said “Pam, that ship has sailed.” She hated the movie so much that she wrote it in her will that Disney was not allowed to make another Mary Poppins movie again. The movie and the book were very different. Walt Disney wasn’t even there for the 2 weeks she was and Mrs. Travers already signed over the rights. Feed the Birds was her favorite song, not Fly A Kite. She was extremely private about her life. I don’t think she would’ve liked this movie at all. Also, she was a parent. She had an adopted son, but allegedly wasn’t a good mother.
Her son had a twin brother that he never knew of untill they were grown up
I'm so grateful that you included the ending speech in this reaction...it so perfectly everything this movie was trying to say, regardless of whether or not Travers accepted the movie, the lessons were all in that speech

I suggest watching "The Founder". The same director as this film tells the story of how Ray Kroc "founded" McDonalds.
Michael Keaton as the villain-protagonist Ray Kroc and John Carroll Lynch and Nick Offerman play Mack and Dick McDonald. All three of them give great performances.
This was an interesting film. It was like watching a documentary on the development of a Disney film and advertisement of Disney Land. I liked seeing how the Tom Hanks and some of the other actors were portraying Walt Disney and the Sherman Brothers (renowned music writers at the Disney company).
Interesting to note: (21:28) The moment the car pulls into the entrance to Disneyland. It’s pretty clear why they have extras in 60s clothing standing there on the sides. It’s to conceal the post-1960s appearance of how we see the entrance now. However, when it enters through the gates. The entrance computer monitors are visible, thus creating an anachronism.
This is honestly my FAVORITE movie ever, and I’m so glad one of my favorite reactors took time to watch it!❤️
9:55 that was their formula. Making up words that are hard to forget. Any other film with their music you're bound to find a word or two that just sounds so eccentric it'll stick with you. That and also just how their songs have such deep meanings and messages that can be applied to everyday life (Feed the Birds)
Regarding the carousel scene: it never happened. She did go on a tour of Disneyland, but she hated it, and never rode the carousel or the horse.
Also, Jingles did not get its name until it was dedicated to Julie Andrews in 2008.
Travers wasn't pleased with the movie, but years later when Mary Poppins became a stage play, she was finally happy.

Man it’s been along time since I last saw this movie this is a fantastic movie with a great cast
Such a good movie. I've always loved Mary Poppins as a kid but finding out the backstory interesting. I find myself watching this film from time to time 😊
Interesting thing to remember about the actual movie: the movie actually has very little of the color red in it. Other than on certain people's clothing.
WOW, I consider the movie a masterpiece, I love Tom Hanks represented Walt Disney himself... and I understand why P.L. Travers does not want to give him the rights of Mary Poppins and it remains faithful to the book.. It is impressive at the same time that it shows the making of the movie, it also shows, with Pamela's flashbacks, why she is like that and her reasons why she insists on the movie staying faithful to book...When I saw the movie, I didn't think it would also be about the author's past, I even like it more for to be deeper than the movie made of Mary Poppins, it amazed me and it tears my soul how her dad suffered and died, she loved so much..
Glad this movie served as a tribute to Walt Disney’s daughter Diane Disney Miller. The end credits felt meaningful with that dedication. She was a good person to the very end. 🙏
Walt did not immediately hop on a plane to follow her to England when she left, but the contract was quickly signed. … It is doubtful that Walt even knew anything about her father or her issues about him. There is certainly no evidence that the topic ever came up. Travers herself was prone to denial about anything unpleasant. … Walt never considered his years delivering newspapers for his father in Kansas City as traumatic, but just considered it hard work. As a skinny 9-year-old boy, he did struggle with snowdrifts higher than he was.

I loved this movie until I found out it’s not accurate such as the main/semi plot of the movie never happened as she had already signed away the rights before being invited to LA. I get movies like Titanic being semi-factual as the main focus is on a fictional love story, but this movie was based completely on real events so the deviation from facts doesn’t sit right with me.
This movie is actually kind of wonderful. Seeing how it’s based on a true story, this actually does sound like the true story. Not to mention Tom Hanks does a great job portraying Walt Disney. I’m not even kidding, his performance is top tier.

Another thing: Disney wasn't there for the majority of these events. He tried for one day, gave up, and left it in the hands of the Sherman Brothers.
This was a wonderful film about another wonderful film...Feed the Birds still brings tears to my eyes every time.
Irl Mrs. Travers loathed the final movie unfortunately though understandibly. For all their raw honesty that they've been able to portray in this movie (though not all accurate of course) they were not prepare to downright show that aspect and instead left her opinion here a bit ambiguous.

I remember watching saving mr banks more than a decade. Also, I never liked PL Travers doesn’t want to make Mary poppins movie with penguins 🐧 at first until she let Walt Disney do his work.
I love this movie a lot. Tom Hanks played Walt Disney so well (well Tom Hanks plays every one of his characters well) and it was very fun to watch. It's so underrated as well. I also really liked Paul Giamatti's character Ralph the limo driver as well.
I also love that neither Walt or Mrs. Travers were money obsessed with this film. Walt wanted to make the film to make his daughters happy and Mrs. Travers wanted to keep her beloved character and only agreed to make the film due to running out of money. It's nice that both Walt and Pamela saw Mr. Banks as their own father and how important Mary Poppins is to both of them. It's a nice movie.

This movie did feel interesting at the time but we have also have to understand that it’s aged like milk given the actor’s strike, support for a certain regime and also the fact that Walt Disney was horrible to his employees and setting the gold standard in suppressing dissent.

In real life, PL Travers hated the movie so much, that she cried throughout the entire premiere and in her will, made it perfectly clear that no American was allowed to touch Mary Poppins ever again.
Why did she hate Americans? She sounds insufferable. I am Guatemalan and _Mary Poppins_ is one of my all-time favorite films. Ever since childhood. I think Disney et al. did a great job!

Sadly, P.L. Travers wasn’t a fan of the 1964 film adaptation despite allowing her to oversee production of it with Walt. Walt on the other hand already told her “that ship has sailed” and there was nothing more he can do about it. She had her many share of disagreements, but through it all. There’s no denying this movie brought out joy and laughter for generations to come.
This Movie Was My Dad's Favorite Movie To Watch
I hadn’t actually seen this movie yet, i heard the name just never seen it.
Definitely a Disney-fied version of what happened in real life but it's undoubtedly one of the most underrated modern Disney Live-Action films around.
For the record, she still didn't like the movie when it came out. She had no intentions for any sequels to happen and would allow Disney to do anything else with it until much later in life after...slightly warming up to it.
PL Travers wanted Mr. Banks to be clean-shaven, but her father had nothing to do with it. In real life, her father had a mustache.

Films like this are so eye opening to me. If you liked this, I definitely recommend Goodbye Christopher Robin. It tells the story of the author of Winnie the Pooh, AA Milne and how the creation of the character impacted his relationship with his son.
I recommend the film "walt before mickey." It's a bio pic about Walt Disney and his original work in animation before creating mickey mouse

THIS was back when WALT DISNEY cared about stories they acquired, and WALT did NOT RUIN them or CHANGE them by race Swapping Mary Poppins, or making her gay, , they just made traditional TIME TESTED GOOD movies that most people LIKED and PAID TO SEE, and kids have enjoyed for years NOW they just RUIN EVERYTHING we need WALT BACK !!
In my opinion this a very interesting movie and also underrated as well. I like that explains a lot of how they made Mary Poppins and Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks performances were amazing and the some goes for the rest of the cast and just the extra details etc. thanks for r doing Saving Mr Banks Tim hope you enjoyed it 😊😄👍👍

You should still think about taking some of my ideas like Oogie love and the big balloon adventure plus Ozzie but if they make him sound like a girl, then it’s mostly just the French version miraculous ladybug and cat noir in New York City plus some of the other ones that I’ve mentioned as well I just like helping you out a lot and if there are any more I will tell you plus you should definitely think about reacting to the amazing digital circus as well. It’s kind of like a mini movie.
Reason for this film is to make up for Walt Disney did; family wanted this movie .

I was gonna say PS like Mary Poppins, the old one, and Mary Poppins returns, and Miss Peregrine home for children I think that’s what it was called. I know it was like a horror movie with like different kids and they were like orphans and then it turned out like really good. At the end. And I think that they made a couple other ones other than the ones that I really want. You to think about watching as well I really don’t know why it keeps erasing my comments.

Watch Mary poppins returns which is a sequel
Based off your reaction, you've clearly haven't read the books. In my experience I've found reacting to books first and films second best and make it easy to relate to Mrs. Travers. I grew up in the HP era, reading the book then the film coming out a year or two later. Some franchises I did read the books afterwards, LOTR/Narnia and admittedly that was okay because the director and writers of those films understood the heavy task and while some changes did happen it wasn't on a destructive level. Sure the hardcore fans were probably upset with the order of Narnia films and others with how characters in LOTR appeared, but when you compare those films to others like Ella Enchanted or Eragon, those changes are nothing. No offense to the actors all do so well, like Jeremy Irons in Eragon and Anne Hathway was a good choice for Ella, but omg!!! The film Ella Enchanted felt like it spat on the book. Gail Carson Levine, author of Ella Enchanted, created a unique world, I wanted to see her version of centaurs, giants, and elves (especially that scene with the animal mugs), and how people interact. Even the fairies were just names in the film and barely a shell of the characters shown.

15:08 Share with the rest of the world? Not everything has to be shared, some things shouldnt but they are. Look at artworks, figurines, historical relics in museums. China, Egypt, and Native American and a vast number of other nationalities have had their Mary Poppins shared with the rest of the world and at one point stolen to 'share' by the British Museum and others. Mrs. Travers was protective of her book because there was no true guarantee Walt and his team would be respectful and true to her art. Heck, there are plenty of novels, music, and paintings that were taken by someone else either through a bad copyright paperwork or...like in Big Eyes about a woman whose husband takes credit for her artwork. People who put their heart into something, or have a piece of family or national history are less likely to share their things, because history has proven there are people that will destroy it.

Some people praised the film for showing the dark side of working with Disney, but it really didn't go far enough to be an honest portrayal. If you know what you're looking for at the end, you can suppose she's crying because she hates the film so much, but most audiences will assume that she's genuinely moved.
What really ticked me off was when I learned Travers was probably gay. Not openly, because she was never open about anything, but she had some decade-long relationships with women over the course of her life and this 2016 film makes no suggestion toward it. That blew me away when I found out. Disney tries so damn hard to be woke, but they never take it far enough to risk losing ticket sales in Russia and China. Weak sauce, man.
