Does weight come into play when choosing between these shoes? Im 91kg/200lbs and taking a wild guess, im much heavier than the reviewer. Would the characteristics of the shoes change when going up in weight?
For those of us with stability needs transitioning out of stability shoes but back to stable neutral looking for a quiver killer (minus race day use) up to HM, which would you think is better? I’ve loved my Hoka Arahi through my tib post rehab (with some mild adult acquired flatfoot), but would be comfortable I think with a slightly less prescriptive shoe now.
Between the Cyclone 2 and the Specter, definitely the Specter. The flexible forefoot of the Cyclone 2 may be too unstable for you (although you could try it), but I think the Specter will be a better choice. Try to take both for a test run if you can and then decide based on what feels most comfortable.
I can actually run in barefoot style shoes but I am much slower than I would be in a daily trainer type shoe such as the Mizuno Wave Rider 25. Maybe the Cyclone 2 would be a good shoe to use while transitioning to barefoot running?
It might be . Also Altra escalate racer is pretty decent . It’s what I was using on most my runs . I think the cyclone two might have a lot more pop due to the pbax . I’ll definitely be purchasing the cyclone 2 in the future. Due to wearing barefoot shoes for 3 years now . The only shoe options that are faster have been new balance rebel . But I like the way saucony speed 2/3 pop and I get a lot of pbs in those but once I get past 3 miles in them my feet really start feeling it they are just to narrow for my feet now .. and I here the cyclone 2 feel similar on foot . So worth a try. But In regards if you are try to transition to barefoot running . I would say the escalante racer would be a better option . It’s zero drop . Not as responsive. But it still has plenty of cushion ( although minimal ) where it can give you some comfort. But you have that natural toe splay .
@@bb4prelude73 I tried the Escalante 2 a while back. The comfort was amazing. It was almost like wearing indoor slippers. But I did not like the running feel in terms of the midsole (too mushy) and the outsole traction on wet pavement is very poor. I’ve tried PEBAX related midsoles before like the Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 and Pro 3 and I tend to like that better. I want my midsole to retain good cushioning longer than some of my other shoes and I think that Pebax type material tends to last a lot longer than EVA foam.
@@iakona23 you are talking about the escalante 2 which is not the same as the Racer . The racer doesn’t have as much cushion . Lower profile 😊 For me I’ve been running in the escalante racers for a year now . They feel the same . I’m regards to foam . But like most altras they don’t have a long life span . This cyclone two will not help you transition to barefoot running . If anything just focusing on your cadence and slower barefoot running may be more ideal . Just be patient take it a mile at a time . Make sure you do body weight calve raises to get those calves and feet strong 💪 This cyclone two is meant as a rolling shoe . It’s meant to be faster .
@@bb4prelude73 ok, thank you. All excellent ideas. I’ve never been impressed with the squishy feel of the midsole of the Altras that I’ve tried on, even though the fit of a shoe like the Escalante 2 or Lone Peak 5 is really wonderful for me.
@@iakona23 hey buddy I got the cyclone 2 shoes I have around 40 miles in them now and they are great running shoes for some one that needs the toe space . But I don’t recommend them as bare foot transition shoes . They feel awkward to walk with since the heel cup is kinda meant to propel you forward. Like I said they are good running shoes . Just not a good daily walking shoe that you can use . Which would help you transition to a barefoot shoe . Like I stated in the previous comments the escalante racer might be a better transition shoe to barefoot walking/ running .
It does feel most similar to the Rebel v3, although I found the toe spring of the Cyclone to work better with my mechanics than the Rebel. It felt like the Rebel flexed behind my 1st MTP, which caused a lot of discomfort in that area (whereas the Cyclone 2 feels more flexible just in front of my 1st MTP)
I got the specter in a 10 but it was a tad narrow in the fore foot so I went up to 10.5 which was a little better. Is the cyclone wider or is the upper more forgiving? I read the cyclone 2 is a tad long so I imagine sticking to a 10 will be good.
You could if you like more ground feel and a flexible forefoot. I could do an easy 20 miler in the Cyclone 2, but I would probably choose the Brooks Hyperion Max because it is a firmer and a little more protective.
Thanks for the vid. I bought Cyclone2 and it’s the best shoe I had! Specter has so stiff and not bouncing outsole. I did try and did not understand why they made it. Cyclone 2 is really like if Altra and Hoka made a baby. But outsole is much better then in Hoka. Pebax is one love. The crazy thing is their weight. 156 grams 37.5 size. This is incredible!
Well what do you think? I personally find them really uncomfortable to wear, so the less time in them the better... But they are still fast and bouncy at fast paces or slow and bouncy at slow paces so cant fault them on that 😂 @@jhughes6798
These shoes are so different - the Specter is stiff, heavy feeling and pretty unresponsive. The C2 are the opposite - lively and ready to go fast immediately. Will the Specter ‘give’ after more running ? It does not feel like it. The Cyclone 2 is just the best shoe ToPo have produced - I cannot imagine anyone not absolutely loving it 👍🏴🦄😸
For me personally, I would agree with that. Cyclone 2 performs at any pace and I find the upper more comfortable. Specter definitely more limited in best use for me.
What do you think about the toe-spring in generell? Is it "bad" for the natural-use of the foot-muscles? And could it maybe cause injuries?
This toe spring practically goes down when u wear it and it does not feel on the feet. Also it gives the rocket shape effect for bouncing.

Can’t wait for the Cyclone 2. I did find the Specter firm too. What shoe would you compare the Cyclone to? NB Fuelcell Rebel?

I was gonna say rebel, puma Deviate nitro,

I’m pretty sure it’s toe poe not taw poe. It’s named after the owner Tony Post.
Yup.
Can you do long (20+), easy runs in the cyclone 2?
Of course you can, it’s a shoe. You should be asking yourself that question. Do you do okay in lightweight, flexible shoes for a long run?
You could if you like more ground feel and a flexible forefoot. I could do an easy 20 miler in the Cyclone 2, but I would probably choose the Brooks Hyperion Max because it is a firmer and a little more protective.

What sort of distances/paces do you recommend the cyclone for? I just ordered some but worried they're only good for speed work :/

Cyclone 2 seems to be a better option regardless if you run slow or fast.. 🙄

Toe - Poe
“Toe-po”
Yup! Named after their CEO/Founder Tony Post.
Unfortunately, neither of them is a decent shoe.
