OMG Elton has the same litter theme as my service dog (Boy) George. His littermates included Elton, Bowie, Prince, Lyonel, Mick, Annie, Madonna, and Cindy. We called them the Rockstars litter
That’s interesting that they use themes. Canine Companions for Independence has all littermates names start with the same letter.
Elton John has been so supportive of other people, guiding them through addiction and mental health problems, so it's perfect for this wonderful guide dog to be named after him. Wishing you lots of happy and safe years together.
You can call him Sir Elton when he's being especially great.

I can't believe you told us the connection between Elton John and Ben already! It means that Elton John is making you feel happy enough to be able to tell the story without crying because of Ben, but while laughing because of Elton John. Which makes me so happy. The way he lights you up and makes you smile is awesome too. I'm sure he'll make you feel much better and happy very soon.❤️

I found it quite interesting to hear some of the themes that are used to name the puppies. I had to laugh when you mentioned the name, egg roll. I had a cat for many years that I named eggroll because he stole my husband‘s egg roll when he, himself was about the same size as the very eggroll that he was trying to steal.
My dog trainer told me being able to sit up (or "sit pretty" or my command is "say please") takes a LOT of core strength for a dog. Small dogs will offer up the behavior more frequently, and can hold it longer. Such a big boy (and Gypsy) doing it is so impressive!!

can I just say that everytime I watch a molly video I'm incouraged to move forward in my life. I'm epileptic so I can't drive and the place I'm living at now is just not working, watching an hour of molly videos really gave me the kick I needed to take charge and start looking for a better place to live.

I think "Sir Elton" since Elton was knighted at Buckingham Palace being a longtime close friend of Princess Diana. Sir Elton is a perfect name for Elton John the fluffy guide dog!
This was the dog I chose from the start. He is SO PERFECT! And stunningly beautiful. Oh and the hind leg thing, my service dog (a Husky-Malamute too pretty for words, annoyingly so because people don't leave us alone or yell "PRETTY DOG!" across public places like the grocery store), she does the same thing with her leg and she wants the inside of her thigh scratched and her belly rubbed and scratched. And she will also use her front leg and hook it on your wrist and push it down to her belly if you pet her when she's sitting up. It's quite rude but it's all about the "bell-bell" as I call it. Oh and grooming.... .yeah, that's something I don't EVEN want to talk about. And I used to be a groomer. So it's worse. I'm extremely particular. The shedding....omg the shedding.

Oh and by the way, my service dog's name is Presley. She's a girl. I just liked the name and spelled it wrong. Elvis's last name has two S's spelled Pressley. So she wasn't named after him but I used his name.

Sir Elton is a good nickname. She could even just use Sir on occasion too. My dog also paws my wrist and moves it to scratch her belly lol.
My daughter's service dog is in training, and we're really looking forward to Human Training. the code name thing is BRILLIANT.

I have many favorite EJ songs, depending on mood and circumstance. But the one I'd suggest to you now is "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". It's on the album/CD of the same name, and plays right after "Benny & the Jets". It's a bittersweet goodbye song, with an upbeat verse section followed by that "Ahh-ah-ah-ah-ahh" that can bring (cathartic) tears to one's eyes. 🐕 💓

I've had several long-haired dogs in my lifetime and I highly recommend that you try to brush them daily, their hair gets tangled and matted very easily and quickly!

It always makes me really happy to see that your dogs clearly love being with you. Some people don't seem to understand that these dogs get a lot out of the relationship they have with their humans and that even the working time is fulfilling for them.
Molly, I love how you can sense everything that’s happening just by barely touching or feeling it. Like when he’s going nuts and somehow you quickly pat and scratch him in appropriate spots as though you can see exactly what’s going on (I feel like I’d poke him in the eye or ear or something!) or when he kept lifting his foot up and you noticed immediately. It’s so cool! Your sense of what’s going on around you is so keen.
And I just got to the mouse carcass part, LOL.

When it's all you know, or such a large part of what you know, you get to where you just know certain things about what your dog is doing by touch. We kinda don't have a choice, but also, more than that, we learn how to feel and sense it. It's nothing magnificent, it's just ... tapping into different senses.
For what it's worth, I still sometimes poke my poor dog in the eye from time to time :( I feel awful when I do it, b ut she doesn't seem to care.

It’s so nice to see you happy with your new dog! I know it’s still hard, but it’s good for me to see that you’re okay. Even though Ben is still alive, he’s not in your life. My cat was just diagnosed with nasal cancer and only had 1-3 months to live. So to see that you can move forward is really helpful for me. 💛

Btw, about the fake code name thing, that didn't even work for a second with my boy. He just seems to know that he's being spoken about because it's the same conversation on repeat 9/10 times, lol. So I just decided it was more difficult trying to remember code names or come up with them on the spot, lol. Instead, I trained that he needs to look at me when people attempt to interact, and if he doesn't do it himself (which is rare), then I use a hand signal to make him do it while I am speaking so it doesn't seem rude to others that I'm verbally saying, "look at me" to him. I hope the code name works better for you -- lots of people do it and find it helpful! Just giving a suggestion in case it doesn't work out.
My two current dog's names when we adopted them: Peking, as in Peking Duck, he's now Edgar and Claus, as in Santa Claus 🧑🎄 (and his nickname at the foster was "The Fluffy One"), he's now Silas. Silly names 😜.

So I just recently got back into your content so I'm really behind, but I fell in love with the guide dog videos and even turned on my notifications bell to be alerted for this video, you are amazing and give me so much hope that the world still has beautiful souls, and that I can do absolutely anything I can put my mind to.
As someone who works with a different service dog organization, I love hearing how mira names them versus how we do it!
How do you name them?
@@corape5938 Each litter has a letter rather than a theme and they rotate through the alphabet in order. Then the breeder caretaker (owner of the mom dog) submits a list of name that the organization picks from. Its almost the reverse of Mira's system

I am not one to listen to him much but he does indeed hVe iconic songs. I'm personally partial to Sorry Seems to Be The Hardest Word. Another song that would be relevant today is Candle in the Wind, my mom actually has the single from 97 here at home.

I can't be the only person who just can't stop cringing every time I hear someone use the word Gypsy. For obvious reasons.

The Gipsy Kings are Spanish Romani, that’s why they have that name. Many gypsys prefer to be called just that.

I shrieked when you said his name was Elton John! I was named after Elton John’s song “Nikita” and he is one of my favorite musicians. Ever since my mom passed I have found his music to be a way of connecting with her. So happy for you to start this new journey for you and Elton John!

Tbh, it was an important bit of reassurance for me to know that the name of your first guide dog came from a band, bc the G-word has a very complex history, and among some people, is considered a slur against Rromani people! Knowing that the name comes from a band who themselves are of Rromani descent contextualizes the name for me, even if it's still not my favourite word to hear in videos. (Not laying any blame here, as I know that was the dog's name, but more sharing my thoughts/feelings on it.)
