    I did learn from my boss that a 3,4,5 triangle is old farmers triangle, ccause farmers didn't have calculators ,just measuring tape so they would pull 30' over set point then intersect that point with one extending from other point 40'with 50' and they could build their fence seprating their property at a 90^ from the road.

    I might be late on this question but what do you do if your 45,45-degree triangle has a hypotenuse of 9 or something

    • @MrHelpfulNotHurtful
      @MrHelpfulNotHurtful  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Let's call the hypotenuse h and let's call the leg x. The hypotenuse always equals the leg times radical 2. So we have the equation h=x (radical 2). If the hypotenuse is 9, the equation becomes 9 = x (radical 2). To solve for x you divide both sides by radical 2. You get x = 9/(radical 2).

  • @PotatoheadAsh
    @PotatoheadAsh 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    What if you have a 2 radical 3 for the hypotenuse? Would that make the short leg 1 radical 3 or just radical 3 and the long leg 3?

    How did you get 3 radical 3 in the calculator? I got 5.196 : (
    but besides that this video is great! It helped me a lot :)))

    • @MrHelpfulNotHurtful
      @MrHelpfulNotHurtful  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +namjwwn I used a TI-30 XS Multiview which simplifies radicals for you. You should get one. They are $15 on Amazon. Or for $21 you can upgrade to the TI-36X Pro which also solves systems of equations.

    • @MrHelpfulNotHurtful
      @MrHelpfulNotHurtful  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +namjwwn I am assuming you understand that 3 radical 3 is numerically equivalent to 5.196...

  • @dhruvabarua5265
    @dhruvabarua5265 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you explain how things would work if the 60 degree angle was at the top while 30 at bottom? I heard it is different that way and you have to multiply the hypotenuse by radical 3.

    • @MrHelpfulNotHurtful
      @MrHelpfulNotHurtful  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rotating the triangle so the 60 is at the top changes nothing. All the same rules apply. At 11:43 (and other places in this video) there is an example with the 60 at the top. I can find you more examples if you need them.

    • @dhruvabarua5265
      @dhruvabarua5265 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reply but I meant how what if 60 was switched with 30 in that example. Like if you completely switch the angles around not rotate. I watched a video from yaymath about it and thought it had some sort of change to the formula.

    When the long side is 4 and root of three, the short side is 2 and root of three, what would be the length of hypoteneuse.

    • @MrHelpfulNotHurtful
      @MrHelpfulNotHurtful  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I disagree with the premise of your question. If the long leg is 4 root 3, then the short leg is 4. The hypotenuse is always double the short leg, so if the short leg is 4, then the hypotenuse would be 8.

    For a 45-45 what if the hypotenuse is just 7? How do I find out what the other sides are

    • @MrHelpfulNotHurtful
      @MrHelpfulNotHurtful  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This video will show you why the answer is 7/root2: th-cam.com/video/pR_J5feDcEM/w-d-xo.html

    I agree. Can you draw a triangle of long side 17 and adjacent side is root of 85.

    • @MrHelpfulNotHurtful
      @MrHelpfulNotHurtful  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The triangle you describe would not be a 30-60-90 triangle. You would find the missing side using the Pythagorean Theorem: a squared + b squared = c squared.
