I'm here because, as a pretty new white belt, I had no idea what a lockdown was until a purple belt did it and caused my knee to pop. I'm usually very cautious and tap early, but I honestly didn't understand what he was doing nor did I really feel any pain until the pop so it surprised me. Thanks for the video!
You have a typo in your title. First! This video is gonna be welcome to me. I've had my knee damaged from this position before. My guess for Adam's sons name is Kneebah
Tore my knee last night. Opponent did a hard lockdown and I pulled forward /extend and then tried to rotate my leg. Pop and pain. He held on. I had to push lower to relieve the pressure. But the damage is done. MRI and orthopedic scheduled.
Full ACL tear. Bucket tear on medial meniscus. Partial tear on the other meniscus. Looking at 6000$ in medical bills and 6 weeks in a leg brace with 6-9 weeks out on work.
For me, when I’m applying lockdown I put a lot of focus on pinching my knees instead of just extending my legs so much. The quick jerking motion of extending the leg is what really hurts the knee. If my opponent goes up towards my head I follow with my knees and throw. If they drop down a little I may extend just enough to get them off but not with quick hard movement. In a sense, I’m allowing my opponent to lead and I’m following with my lockdown. But whichever direction they choose I windup tossing them in that direction. That’s the mindset I keep in order to keep my training partners safe and it’s worked for me many times. As far as me being in lockdown, i immediately sit up to take pressure off my knee. If I feel them extending my leg with force, that means I missed the opportunity to sit up and I just accept being swept. Not worth destroying my knee. Sorry for the long post. Hopes this helps
I had my ACL torn in a comp 4 weeks ago from this exact position. 2 weeks post OP and missing it big time. Definitely keeping this vid in my play list. Thanks Chewy. ....Is the Name Adam?
I took a couple of lock downs during practice yesterday, but I think I'm going to abandon it unless I go slower with an upper belt. I can get it as a high percentage hold, but it isn't worth it, man. I'm mortified of breaking someone.
Got my knee popped from this. I didn't know what it was, I was rolling with a girl who said she had a messed up neck so I was MAJOR slacking on my top game next thing I know she's under me and POP torn MCL. She was probably getting revenge for easily finishing her with a heel hook so she took revenge. That was my 1st and only time at that gym. No more rolling with injured folks.
I defend the lock down A LOT! If someone gets me with it, I stop everything and address it immediately. It has to be a priority because it can cause issues. if they dont have under hooks controlling my upper body (heaps of white belts forget this part) I sit back on my heels (while they have the lockdown) then place both hands on their knees and push on their knees and watch them tap so quickly...its hilarious. when the guy who puts the lockdown on taps, its the funniest thing to see.
I appreciate this video very much as someone who uses lockdown. I am not the best user of it except as a way to survive and wait for an opportunity to re-guard or maybe(
As this was one of the first guards I could get into easily, I like to play this alot. Unfortunately, the whip up step is where I get stuck. I must be missing something on it, and it is especially tough against those 250lb guys. Yet, I have never injured someone's knee (to the best of my knowledge). Adam's kid shall henceforth be known as Ivar the Defiler
Would you say before you attempt to utilize your counter you should fight for the most important position from any half guard regardless of its Lockdown, coyote half guard or deep half and that’s fight for the under hook . If Adam has the under-hook how well does your counter work? If you lift and he brings his knees to chest will he follow your foot continuing the lockdown? Most half guard games torque the knee take Lucas Leite coyote style putting tremendous pressure on that knee joint or Lachlan Giles half guard so much torque in the opponents knee. Morale of the story it’s a combat martial art train for the best outcome but understand if you want to compete expect the worst outcome people are out there to impose their will and bodies get hurt. Or stay in your respective school and stay safe as one professor said
You are one day to late for me :-( Yesterday I got my knee popped out by this. It isn't to bad it sprang right back in, but I guess I won't play guard for some time.
it didn't happen for a very long time by now, but i remember being caught up in this a lot with one person when i was just starting bjj. i didn't get any injures because i would allow the opponent to do whatever the hell they want as soon as they extend 'cause with my bad knees i can tell it really stinks real soon... didn't think about how to handle it 'cause it stopped to happen, but like THANKS A BUNCH IT WAS VERY EASY AND HELPFUL oO
Someone put me in the electric chair from lockdown and jacked my knee up, I've been dealing with it for about 2 months (nothing major as far as I can tell so far but no scans yet), so yeah, please be careful with this bad boy...

I don’t think this is going to work on someone who understands the use of the outside leg when using lockdown. A good lockdown player knows to keep the inside leg in the knee pit and they’ll also be able to race their heel to the mat before you can hide your foot.
I've been taught to use lockdown to cause a reaction when getting smashed from bottom half. Not as a position to hold onto. Thanks for the video! Also his name is Jacob
Just some feedback - I'd use a different colour gi for each person in a video like this. Makes it a bit easier to follow whose leg is whose :)
It's obviously Adam. Congrats, Adam!!
"Adam, my beautiful husband, what would you like to name our son?"
"ADAM"
Dwalin, Balin, Kili, Fili, Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, and Thorin. Or Rumpelstiltskin.

Sorry to hear about the knee! Hope it doesn't happen again.
Adam named his kid spirit fingers...only logical answer here.
THANKYOU! I've been getting trapped in lockdown a lot, and noticed my knee getting a little weird, so glad to know an escape :)
Adam’s sons name is Chewy

I’m 3 months post surgery because my acl got ripped off my femur with a lockdown.

I think Adam is exhausted from the new kiddo...he didn't blink once. He is asleep.
Adam named his child Rickson By Armbar. His life partner promptly x'd that idea. So now the child called Nicholas.

How’s the knee? Ever get back to ‘normal’?

Vaporizer was the last leglock, the groin flex you refered is called as Adam child: lil ELECTRIC CHAIR
Yes, that! Dude, idk, but maybe white belts shouldn't be slapping electric chairs on people? What do you think? I got my knee effed up on that.
This guy is the best bjj youtuber so much knowledge

I got my meniscus teared by a white belt just trying to twist my knee with the lockdown... 6 months after surgery and pt now

Jesus?? Congrats Mr Adam on your jiu jitsu messiah child. Oss!
You just explained a lock down that was not a lockdown, seriously!
