Lachlan, you probably get this all the time, but you are such a gifted teacher. You and Danaher are my favorites. You seem to consider the absolute beginner in your explanations, and that's so helpful. Thank you.

It’s funny but after thinking about it lockdown isn’t that popular outside of 10th planet especially in gi.. most people just use regular (coyote lace attacks) or deep half like Bernardo faria Lucas leite celso Vinicius and Pablo popovitch all won every title you can think of gi or no gi with half

The one on the bottom can also do the lockdown the other way round which is VERY dangerous for the ACL of the one on top. Never turn to the left on top or you'll hear a POP (as I did 13 years ago).

What’s crazy is Lachlan was a massive half guard player until black belt and basically abandoned it ( i did the same at brown belt) focusing on open guards with more distance controls ( de la riva collar sleeve reverse de la etc) and layering of guards if one is passed ( ie if you’re de la riva and your opponent steps over the leg you go to reverse de la riva ) where he could implement k guard …what he said about lockdown i doubt he believed 7 years ago
he reinvented his guard which is crazy hard to do but I think it was the right call. He couldn’t gonna beat Duarte and guadio with half guard

thanks mate, big fan of your videos. Wondering though where Royler was going wrong with the knee slice, eddie kept getting that electric chair

Royler got out fought positionally over a long period of time in the micro battles. Eddie always got on his hip side not flat and when flat he regained , when Eddie went for the scoop grip/leg underhook needed kneebar/electric/deep half royler couldn’t keep him out via cross face, and knee pinch, when royler broke lockdown he repummeled etc etc these battles were taking place over long period of time swing back forth and Eddie finally got the better of exchanges for the sweep/leg entanglement… these battles are the key to beating black belts with half guard bottom or top

Genius. If you would have just taught this basic white belt half guard pass to Royler, Eddie wouldn't have had a chance against him. It's too bad Royler never learned this basic white belt pass. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Even if you think it's a shit technique, you still need to know how to counter it for it to actually be a shit technique. I think it has its uses, but I wouldn't base my whole game off it.

Older guys like me use it all the time. But we fight like mad to get the underhook, otherwise there are 3 good escapes, this being one of them.
