I have the Turtle, it's a great watch. The original from the 70's is pretty iconic, Mick Jagger wore one, it went on Antarctic expeditions, Ed Harris wore one in The Abyss...
There is only one watch that takes the 1st prize, and that is the Citizen. All the others are runners up. I would rate that Citizen against any watch. Beautifully made, super accurate and only out by 4 seconds a month.
The Citizen Pro Masters with the crown at 3 instead of 4 are my preference. But I agree with the general point. I love quartz watches and solar watches are so much the better. There are an infinite sum of good options in other watch styles in Quartz or solar, but not that many good ones in true divers. Citizen is really a good pick in that sense
Great list with a decent price range. I would offer for consideration the Phoibos Wavemaster 300. I have the green dial version and it's such a good looking watch with solid specs that also satisfies the "tool watch" catagory. You can pick one up for $300.
You should also take a look at Depth Charge ..for under 130gbp a ceramic bezel, seiko 35 movement and sapphire glass ..it puts the best pound for pound IMHO..and as I usually wear Breitlings this shocked me
No.9 you've mixed up 2 watches there - the Orient Kamasu 2 (the one with the patina lume) and the Orient Mako 3 (which has arabics at 6, 9 and 12). The case is the same but the new Mako 3 has finally solved the issue with the crown that was impossible to unscrew/ screw in. I've owned both, for less that £250 its unbeatable value from a mainstream brand for the specs.
I prefer the Rotary Seamatic, 300m water rating, ceramic bezel, saphire crystal, very nice finishing (mostly brushed with some high quality polish) and comes with a deployment clasp with dive extension. Insanely good watch for 180 pounds, Only downside is the miyota 8215 movement, however it is very reliable and keeps that price down
Couple weeks ago received my Orient Kano for $160, it instantly replaced my Swiss Military quartz beater. Certina DS Action Powermatic 80 you can get a good deal now, it's just everything you ever wanted in a diver. And MIDO Ocean Star GMT for a little over $1K is 2 in 1 - diver + GMT 80h power reserve killer watch.
Love my Duro, it's a daily and over 2yrs old I'm very hard on watches, have NO scratches on the crystal, and it's in very good shape. The lume is not great, have no issues with the crown, and the second hand hitting the markers is hit or miss(no pun intended). It appears to get better with time, btw(mine is very good). As for how it wears is subjective, on my Average size wrist (17-18cm) I've spent more on straps then on the watch and Love it... Spends most of its time on a StrapCode 22mm Super-J Louis JUB Watch Band Straight End, 316L Stainless Steel Solid V-Clasp Button Double Lock. And on that it really punches above it's weight.
I have a Duro with pepsi bezel, I've put it on a comfy nato and I love it. Nice to wear, legible, looking good and it's really good quality for the money.
I have the Citizen in blue and it’s a heckuva deal at around $200-250. It’s one of two watches in my daily wear rotation. The only complaint is the strap is gaudy - I replaced it with an Island Watch bracelet pretty quickly. I will say the Orient is a beautiful watch, especially at the price. Christopher Ward is also killing it right now.
I’d add the Certina DS Action Diver 38mm as an alternative Swatch group pick. Well-regulated Powermatic 80 movement, modest case size and genuine diving heritage for a little over £700.
Get the 43mm. Ceramic bezel and the adjustable bracelet is 1000x better than the 38mm one. I would argue it is one of the best adjustable bracelets you can get.
@@iLeetjeeh i agree. i have owned the green one for 2 months now and it runs about 0.5--1 sec slow while wearing and then +1 while on the desk, also the braclet and clasp is really nice. The only thing i dont like is that the clasp has some sharp edges when you extend the adjustment. ps: the watch really is kinda heavy, 205g with all links if im not wrong
@@iceman01gun There is a titanium version of the 43mm one! It does come at a premium though. Never had issues with sharp edges but I have a 7inch wrist so I only adjust my bracelet when it's hot outside and my wrist is slightly larger.
Some pro divers say that sapphire is not an ideal crystal material for dive watches - too brittle they say. Better to go for mineral or **gasp** acrylic! With that in mind, may I recommend the Citizen Promaster Diver NY0040-17L (the blue one). Mineral crystal, in house auto movement, 42mm steel case, all for less than £200. After wearing it for a few years, what endears me to it is how comfortable it is to wear. The crown is in the most sensible place and the case is sculpted with very smooth curves wherever it touches the skin. The dial is good, too, with a sunburst finish that is attarctive without being too gaudy. Practical enough for one version to be chosen by the Italian Navy for military purposes. You really have to try it on to appreciate what it is - a good looking practical tool with no unnecessary frills for a very low price.
Too brittle? A sapphire crystal is less resistant to knocks than a mineral one? A sintetic material second in hardness only to diamond? 😂😂😂 That's totally nonsense. Tell you fella scuba divers they are totally wrong. It's crystal, yes, but not that wine flute crystal. That's really brittle. You can hammer a nail into the wood with a sapphire crystal. Try to do it with mineral or plastic ones...
Terrific list! I have the Casio and the Citizen, and love them both. The Invicta Pro Diver, however, is even more of a bargain than you stated. I own a number of Pro Divers, which can often be found under $100. My most recent purchase just a couple of months ago cost only $60.
Good topic and video! I would like to add a dive watch to my collection and am looking within this price range. I have no personal experience with any of these, but have you considered Nodus Retrospect, Scurfa Diver One (Teddy Baldassarre just released a review video today), Deep Blue Diver 1000 II (there are more models but I am looking at this model), or Dan Henry 1975?
