The format, the script, and the good natured hilarity combined with informative commentary is what makes this channel so much fun to watch! The Casio GA-2100 and the Casio Duro are tremendous choices on their own and when you consider that nearly everyone can buy them without undue hardship, that’s really quite fantastic! Very well done 🥃 22:43

Big fan of the Citizen Eco Drive Promaster watches. Have a 13-14 year old Carbon and just picked up an Aqualand - which seems like an updated version of the Carbon. Just solid chunks of steel with great performance and no need for battery.

I really do not get the Moonswatch watches. Cheap plastic kids toy watches in look and build and the strap confirms the kids watch look and feel. Is the only reason people go stupid over it is due to the omega branding? And for all that cheap toy looking plastic you pay heaps for it. So many nice watches you could get for the same money that it's really a bad joke that people are going mad over them. I brought my first Tissot today. The newish White lumed dial PRX with white strap. What a true bargain watch for what you get. I got a G-shock Casioak metal cover with green dial ( GM2100B-3A) a while back and I love the look but for the money it's really overpriced for what it is. It's hard to read and the strap is pure junk. But it looks nice at least.

I'm trying to collect all the colors of the moonswatch. then, I'm putting them in a display case beside my unique collection of dog turds. I have all 7 basic shades of dog poo, from ebony black to slimy white, and all the main tones in between. I think the Moonswatch colection will be a nice complement to that collection, albeit worth far less money.

If I may suggest, of the whole lot here, save enough money to get yourself a Studio Underd0g, a Christopher Ward or a Hamilton Khaki. These three are the most prestigious ones and despite the price range, the highest bang for buck here.
But there are others not listed here that can be great starters (Orient Bambino, any other Seiko 5, Vostok Amphibia, Citizen Promaster and many others) that can give you the feeling of owning a proper watch.
And don't forget the second hand market. If you are lucky and fascinated by the Swiss Made logo, for the same price you can find even better watches on the market. Some of them come at a price that is less than the value of the movement inside. Just be patient and buy what you feel right for you without harming your finances. IMHO.

  • @jim2950
    @jim2950 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You know how people feel about Invicta., Back in the 1960's Timex held that spot. Timex watches would start at $9.95 and go up. Most people stopped at the $30 to $40 level.
for that price you. got a watch which would for 5 years. They looked nice and kept time. Then go out and do it again. Many people wore them. I remember having low regard for them.
I don't think they have changed at all. So I will never buy a Timex "Waterbury" watch. They started out selling $1 watches in the 1890s. I guess a dollar does not buy what it once
did. But a dollar then was a Silver dollar.

Still cheap (edit: better said, "inexpensive" as nothing cheap about the quality) and lower profile GA-2100 makes a great beater watch, nice looking and typical durability. I recommend the white indices as I have. The “blacked out” version isn’t as easy to read according to a few owners I’ve talked with, makes sense.

The Christopher Ward Twelve from a look and finish is bit like a cross over of the Aqua Terra and a constellation. Ignoring the movement/anti magnetic for a moment, the difference in price is 😮 Is the movement worth that c.£5k difference?

Hi, I think you selected a beautiful set of watches, but I'd suggest one you probably know already and a Swiss underrated watch. So: I recently bought a Seiko SRPG27 and I adore it. I think it's very beautifully designed, has a fabulous buid quality and is very accurate. It is somewhat small, but fits well and has a nice presence on the wrist. / The other of Swiss origin. The brand has many ugly models, but my Zeno Airplane Diver is a beast of a watch. It is not that accurate, but it is a watch that grows on you. Functional, has some nice details that point it almost to professional type watches and is quite affordable.
So, thanks for your videos and insights.
    Cheers.

With the Casio G-Shock, the digital display is difficult to read unilluminated. Also, for 10 min an hour, you will be unable to read the display because the hands are blocking it.

Great list! I'd like to add orient to it. In the "budget" world, orient brings so much. Whatever your style, they have something that is likely to get you thinking about what you like and don't like in a watch. Orient sort of starts you thinking about what you would want in a future watch purchase. And for me, was the first watch that made me think "oh yeah, I'd pay $5-$6-$700 for XYZ watch". Also, the duro is so good. I've had mine about 8-9 years and have absolutely worn it to the moon and back. Plus I cook for a living, so it's really gotten worn and used. It does wear smaller than its dimensions suggest, but it's still 44mm it adds to the charm of the watch, but some wrists don't want that. Either way, I'd be happy wearing the duro digging a ditch or to a cocktail party. Plus, it looks amazing on every strap you can throw at it.

Indeed. I have a dozen odd Orient watches, most of them being 1970's and 1980's vintage ones that I dont have in my daily wear rotation, but at least 2 or 3 'modern' styles which I also enjoy, and most of them being quite accurate for their price point.
I also have a Vostok Komandirskie that I wear at work when the 'safety guy' wont allow 'any battery powered watch' due to the possible presence of an explosive atmosphere and wont allow my G-Shock, which is total BS, but....the Vostok has proved to be quite robust in the same way the G-Shock is, and inexpensive and accurate enough not to curse it for being minutes off the day after a reset.

It amuses me when watch enthusiasts describe G-Shock watches as tough, because they are the most fragile watch Casio make..Had 3 of them over the years all of them let me down, worked with a lot of guys outdoors and every one of them would tell you G Shocks fall to bits..The straps split, the hands on the analogue watches fall off, the screens collect may, many scratches..

I just purchased 2 G Shocks and I have a question. Does anyone else have problems with the strap? After two week's I seem to be getting skin irritations. Are there alternative aftermarket straps out there that are not resin? If so what do recommend?

On that Timex Q "pepsi" watch: It seems to defeat the point of the blue/red bezel ring, as it is not a GMT and only shows 12 hour time. The original point of the blue/red was to denote day/night at a glance, which this of course can't do. That makes it a cheap, fake style point which I don't like. I love cheap watches when they have some redeeming characteristic or background history... but despise phony style points when they serve no purpose. IMHO.

The triangle markers on the CW-12 are a design disconnect in my opinion.

If you include Seiko 5, you must consider an Orient or Citizen dive watch too. Most can be had for much less the the 5 series and they are better. Your choices were good apart from that Moonswatch crap.

Not a bad selection, except for the Moon Swatch, about which the less said the better. I'd add any 200m small-brand dive warch. I have a Tandorio that is an homage to the Seiko 6105: NH35a movement, sapphire crystal with AR coating, ceramic bezel, screw-down crown and caseback, and mine has an oyster-shell black dial that is stunning. All this for about $80. Best beater I've ever owned, and nobody's going to hit you in the head to steal it.

I just could not bond with the 2100. The negative display and date are un readable. Navigating it is also horrible compared to the 5600.

I've got the G-Shock GA-B2100 wolverine edition in black and yellow. It's my favourite watch and my daily driver. it goes with my gym kit and but ooks just as good on a night out. But not my best bargain. That was a timex someone put in the wrong box in TK MAXX with a £15 price sticker on it
Yes I knew it was in the wrong box and had no intention on telling the guy at the till 😂😂😅

You show the non solar, non bluetooth version of the G-Shock in your video. People should definitely go for the more modern watch with these upgraded features. The dark watch is the ultimate cool watch with loads of functionality. The only downside of the dark version is you can't use any of this functionality because the display is too dark. Actually you can only see the time if you look carefully but I guess that's the price of being cool.

The CasioAK is a great watch but you need to have perfect eyesight. Having 45 yo is imposible to read the small digital numbers (so no use of World Time, SW, Alarm, etc). Also the day of the week indicator legends are too small. So i dont recommend it unless you have perfect eyesight
