How to fix your Cricut cutting off-centre | Cricut Tutorials

  • UPDATE: Thanks for watching!! I'm so glad this video (seems so long ago now) has helped a bunch of people with the same issue! Unfortunately this fix didn't last that long for me and so I ended up switching to a Silhouette Cameo about a year later (personally, I'm so glad I made the switch).
    * IS THE SECOND HALF OF YOUR PAGE CUTTING OFF-CENTRE? *
    If you've already calibrated, readjusted and tried everything, but the second half of your page is still cutting off-centre then this might be the solution for you!
    I was pulling my hair out because I couldn't figure out how to save my second sticker sheet. THIS is the only thing that worked for me and a few weeks later, it's still working perfectly for me!
    Did I miss anything or skim over a part too fast? Please let me know!

    Hey everyone, i found out how to solve this problem.🤗 At least one that worked for my cricut. I had the exact same problem where the cuts were off every single time. They seemed to be shifted so the bottom and to the right. I could solve this by doing a firmware update on my cricut machine. You will find this option in the menu bar in the cricut design space. BUT before you do the update, there is one step you need to do, in order for it to work: You need to simultaneously press down the power button and the load/unload button (the one with the two arrows) and hold it down for aprox. 5 sec. until the power button turns red. And then you can go to the menu in the Cricut design space and start the firmware update. After the update is complete, your cricut should cut perfectly :)

      I’ve tried to press both down at the same time with my Cricut explore air 2 and it won’t flash red 😑plugged in and clicked update and the design space said it is already updated. So I now need to figure out if it’s a misalignment or me as when I first import my sticker layer they over lap the title being the same size as the background so I manually resize them to fit against the background. When I have done this to match a extra bleed line I have made in the backing sheet for coloured backgrounds the sticker cut has still been in the wrong place 😢

      Hi everyone, this worked for me. I have a Cricut Explorer Air 2. I was having such a hard time, but once I updated it - it stopped drifting when it started to get to the end of the page. This post was a blessing. Thank you!

      Unfortunately I just tested this and my machine went from cutting about .03cm off the sticker to not being able to read from the sensor at all. After going through all troubleshooting posts I could find & reddit posts I'm stuck with a machine that won't cut :').

    Amazing! You'd think after years of complaining about this common problem they would address the issue themselves lol. Thank you so much, I had to alter it to 0.03 but as you said, trial and error and tbh, it was only 3-4 trials on the same piece of paper which is nothing compared to the amount of stickers that have not been perfect. Thank you once again!!!

  • @ceesteven

    You came up with a wonderful discovery. I can’t always work off my desktop to make the adjustments you’ve mentioned, so while using my iPad, I’m experiencing the same issues on a brand new machine. I’ve also tried the cable as well as blue tooth methods. For some reason, I feel this is in the programming mode for calibrating by a print sheet. Possibly our printers don’t print nice clear boundary lines for the calibration cut. I’m not sure about that but either way I’m going to try “tricking or tweaking” by answering the calibration questions differently by picking different both horizontal as as vertical lines as necessary. Instead of choosing the best cut lines, I’ll be experimenting with other lines. Possibly, this may be a solid fix all around at least for the printer I’m using. I mention this so you or others might want to give this method a try as well as yours to see if it helps. Basically, making accurate projects with this expensive machine is what I believe we’re all seeking. As we all know, drawing, cutting and engraving can be quite time laborious and supply usage factors to increase and personally, I don’t have an unlimited checkbook. The Cricut system is certainly not new on the market so with that said, possibly they might rethink their firmware write. Though I do feel the designers do a nice job, possibly they could develop some workouts for this very common issue. I’m not an expert in anything anymore so I can only suggest trying all different methods to calibrate the cricut machines to whatever printer we’re using. And if you have different printers to try, possible that may be another angle to try on the ideas presented here. I’m also wondering about writing a calibration sheet with my maker. It’s a long shot I realize, I don’t know if it’s even remotely possible to upload an image of the calibration sheet I printed in with my printer in order to write it with my maker and then use that to calibrate with. It’s just an idea. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing what works for you and that it is helping others but I feel you/we shouldn’t be forced into all the extra steps especially when you/we spend more than enough time creating. May God Bless.

    • @plannedbyjysla
      @plannedbyjysla  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're absolutely correct that we definitely shouldn't need to do all these extra steps just so that the machine works properly! It's such a shame. Hope you are able to make it work. I have since switched to a Silhouette machine and have had much, much less problems since.

    Just wanted to leave a comment here to thank you! I was getting so frustrated with my cricut maker!!! Just as you say you do have to play around with the Y axis to get it to your cut preference! For me, moving it the opposite direction by 0.02 or 0.03 worked the best! You don’t move the X axis but for me I move it when needed! I rather play around with that than to constantly calibrate 😭 idk about anyone else but doing this has been by far the most helpful tip ever for print and cut on cricut!

    I'm sure you're feeling good and OK with this but if you do an entire sheet of stickers, you'll notice the entire page is just slightly rotated! So! Another alternative is to rotate the print by 0.52 or so degrees - print - rotate it back to 0 degrees, then cut with that template.
    It's so crazy to me that we have to find these crazy workarounds!

    Thank you for posting this! I tried this method but sadly doesn't work for me. After multiple trial and error attempts, I thought my paper wasn't cutting accurately/correctly because it would never lay nice on the mat and I would maybe get 1 good sheet out of the 4 printed to a page. I now know that it was the Cricut mat that came with the machine that was causing the misalignment issues. I bought a new mat, calibrated twice and did a print and cut and lo and behold... definitely confirmed it was the mat because I got a good cut!! I hope this helps someone.

    Thank you SOOOOO MUCH for this video. I am currently on the phone on hold waiting for cricut support (been about 30 minutes so far but I'm determined) because of this issue. But I think I've managed to make my problem worse ... I've recalibrated what feels like 60 times in the past 3 days (and wasting a truck load of paper and ink)... and now.. it won't even cut the top portion of the page properly anymore and just goes whack right of the bat. -_-.... • @plannedbyjysla
      @plannedbyjysla  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Not at all, printer settings can be so tough to figure out!! Colour matching should be “EPSON color controls” and I use paper type “EPSON Matte” and under Colour settings I use “Manual Settings” and in Advanced I choose Gamma 2.2. I’ve reduced magenta by 2 but only because I seemed to always have a slight pink cast. And my colour profile is AdobeRGB. The main thing is to not let the printer decide for you what’s the best settings because the colour settings won’t match what you see on your screen in Photoshop for example. If it’s still dull, try different colour profiles :) Hope that helps!

    I know the frustration! My cricut maker has nearly departed out the window several times!
    I also have an issue sometimes with double cutting, the Cricut will cut the entire sheet correctly and then when it should finish, it starts all over again, I've spoke to Cricut staff several times and gone through all their troubleshooting over and over and nothing stops it. Swear the Cricut team think I'm crazy because none of them have ever seen this problem before 😂. I can cut the same sheet five times absolutely fine and then the sixth it might decide to cut it again haha its the strangest, most annoying thing ever!

      Sometimes I get there just in time, but it took a lot of picking tiny little stickers off the mat before I realised what the problem was. • @plannedbyjysla
      @plannedbyjysla  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would recommend creating separate layers for “printing” and then “cutting” (hiding the other layer when not using) so that you don’t get mixed up moving them back and forth! So once you print, you go back to design space, hide the “printing” layer and show the “cutting” layer. So only one is showing at a time. Also the cutting layer should be set to only cut :)
