I've never read these... I own most of the first 100 issues of Spawn but I never bought these and a few other issues. Gave me a reason to buy the oversized Spawn Absolute editions Todd McFarlane put out, but they sold out before I could buy them.

When Capullo was announced as the Batman artist, everyone hated the idea, people didn't think he could do a good work based on his Spawn work, of course they were wrong in the end. Today there's some epic revisionism going on with the early Image founders on youtube, mainly thanks to a certain channel that all they do is boot lick them in the hopes of "notice me senpai".
@@darioscomicschool1111 I'll take his shorter Batman run, it inspired so many young artists since then too, the inks and colors complemented his pencils so well.

Will watch this in it's entirety tonight, but I really liked this era of Greg too. More a classic "super-heroey" style, if that makes sense. Then obviously later on I think he and McFarlane on inks/finishes they were really simpatico. Then it got hyper detailed with guys like Chance Wolf, Danny Miki, etc on the inks. What we really need is a continuation of the Vault books with an Artifact Edition showcasing some of the great pages from Greg's entire run. I'd buy that in a heartbeat. I asked Todd about it once on FB and he hinted that "something" was in the works, but that was at couple years back when Vault 2 was released. And I am happy as hell I picked those 2 up when I did and they were only about $100 each.
When Greg Capullo stoped to drawn Spawn, I stoped to buy and read Spawn. I think I stoped to read after issue 300. There is an artist that I HATE his art! He loves to drawn the character with big heads, with terrible angles, all the characters are distorted. And I started to think: "Im wasting money on that shit. The story could be good, but I cant take this trash art anymore! Where is Greg Cappulo???"

The trick is to do the "no-no" scenes in the book and not promote them while campaigning, Rich. Hit em when they're not lookin!

yeah those got frighteningly expensive. My guess is Todd might reprint one day...but right now they got PRICEY!
