Diagnosing Johnson 9.5 fuel and spark issue/First start in 25+ years

I was able to pick up a 9.5 motor that didn't run for my 12ft john boat. The motor had no spark on the top cylinder and wasn't getting fuel through the carburetor. I replaced the coils and cleaned the carburetor enough to finally get it to start and run on its own power. #boat #fishing #outboards #johnson #summer #lake #fish #diy #rookie

Cracked coils seem pretty standard on these old motors. My Johnson Seahorse 3 HP also has cracked coils.
Your motor and my Evinrude 9 1/2 HP Twin Sport are the same construction. The coils were changed in mine before I got it. I love this engine as they're almost indestructible when taken care of.
Btw..that screw in the bottom of the bowl hides the main jet. If the jet is clogged the motor doesn't run because ALL fuel has to pass there.
