@BobSmith-mj7ik OMG it's been tasered what a nightmare! Carcasses flopping around on the streets of America, Europe, Japan, China, and South Korea. Can the industry recover?
I don't understand why cheap cars are fading away. Not all of us have $50k+ for a new car since they have gotten so large. Now you only have a few new 2/4 door cars, and most of those are luxury cars. When can we get cheaper smaller 2 door cars? I'm tired of all these companies making crossovers and large SUVs
So many stupid reasons resulted in this current situation. SUVs being considered “light trucks” instead of cars allow them to avoid the more rigid emissions standards in the US, even though obviously almost everyone uses them as regular cars. They get marked up a lot easier because of perceived value, so dealers and manufacturers make more profit on them. And marketing convinced everyone that they NEED and SUV to take their one child to soccer practice. We grew up in a Buick Park Avenue, 3 kids. We were fine.
Its because increased amounts of mandatory safety and driver assistance systems. The amounts of these have increased in latest years. In america NHTSA's Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards that is forcing more cars to have more expensive technologies like turbocharging/supercharging, hybrid powertrains or EV. These CAFE standards are the reason why naturally aspirated big displacement V8, V6 engines are almost discontinued. In european coutries its the more strict emissions limits.

I have been using Discount Tires in San Antonio for years and they have treated me fine and have never tried to sell me anything else for my car but tires. Have had my tires rotated and flats fixed for free numerous times.
I said disparaging things about Doscount that applies to most all tire shops. That said, you can rangle a good deal if you know what youre doing. They will price match.
I would like it to be a modernized Scion tC. I love that car, my Dad has a first gen and it's a nice car. And I know that the tC was a replacement to the Celica. I would like to see that same platform return in the future, especially at a modest price point ($19,000 to maybe $24,000 at most) and I hope they make manual a option.
I haven't owned a Celica since 1985. I loved the old rear wheel drive, I had a 77 too. Rear wheel drive with the 20 and then 22R engine, I loved those cars. They don't need it, but it would be nice to have a rear wheel drive Celica again.
When my 79 Celica rusted beyond drivability I pulled the good running 20R motor and put it in my shed. That was twenty years ago and it is still sitting in there. 😄
I needed four new tyres on our Acura Legend. The nearest Acura dealer was 2 hour drive away so I took it to the local Honda dealer. When I got the car back I checked the date code ( a lot of consumers don't know this) two tyres were 5 years old, one was 3 years old and the last one was 2 years old. (I paid for new tyres.) So I called them back and told them that on their statement it said "NEW' tyres. They said just bring it back and they will fix it. Which they did. I asked to speak to the service manager and during our conversation he said nobody check's the date code. I didn't get an apology or a free car wash. Needless to say that Honda dealer will never get any business from me or any of my extended family.
My college room mate had a 4-door sedan version of the Celica, which Toyota called the Carina. I had a '73 Celica ST with the 18RC engine, 2-door coupe, 4-speed manual, no AC (rough in NC). I enjoyed that little car, but it had a problem with valve burning - Toyota came through & replaced the head at no charge. On a more recent note for Toyota, they are building a $14-billion battery complex in NC near Greensboro - - gonna create 5000 jobs. Three kinds of battery lines: hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and EV.
I had a couple of old 70's celicas back when I was young. They looked like a little mustang fastbacks They were fun little cars that were cheap to drive.

Ford Has always been down. Notorious and infamous for breaking down problems etc. I remember when I was a small kid my mom drove a 1984 Mercury Cougar a maker of ford and broke down due to electrical issues and left us stranded many times luckily near home. It was a miracle that when we drove it on a vacation to northern California it actually didn't break down.

Ford has never been known for quality. As far as Discount Tire goes, I've been going to the one by my house for 28 years. I don't know if the management there are better than other locations, but for the most part I've seldom had problems with them. Of course now that I've said that it's probably going to jinx me.
American customers back to doing the QA for free again ? That was the original system before quality Japanese cars showed up years ago. You can't use sports cars today as a draw when the average new car buying customer regards their vehicle as just an expensive appliance.
i want a celica to be a carolla with the inline 6 or a fourbanger, that 3 cylinder is atrociously anemic long term and probably going to go much quicker than anything larger
Tesla should finally start targeting more market segments, particularly the affordable/budget car market with the current economic crisis. Things will only begin to improve in the medium to long-term so of course they’re having to slash their car prices. With budget cars, at least they’ll be priced right for the times and then it’s matter of focusing on sales volumes. What did VW and other car companies do when starting out just after WW1 and WW2?
I had Discount Tire fail to replace one of my lug nuts. The Toyota dealer reported it to me and replaced it. Now, I always check my lug nuts after they work on my tires.
You look to see if the lug nuts are installed. Normally, five of them. Seeing threads on the ends shows the nuts were not installed. Watch them take them off next time.
I agree with you on power generation but we Brits have invented a hell of a lot of stuff . For example the TV by John logi Baird, the world wide web, the telephone by Alexander Graham bell, the jet engine by Frank whittle and many more too. So put that in your pipe and smoke it my old China.
Try to fix it yourself before you get screwed by the companies. My sister inlaw lug nuts snapped off because of tire company over did. 4 broke off. Not the first time seeing this!! I fix things myself and I do have a trust friend and repairman too!!
Same here with Discount Tire-bought a set but one didn’t match the rest-asked for one like the others-sorry, don’t have it, can’t get it for a week and wanted me to pay for it because I’d be using the odd tire in the interim. Asked for my old tires back-already “recycled”

How does one go about checking their lug nuts? I’d like to learn
You look to see if the lug nuts are installed. Normally, five of them. Seeing threads on the ends shows the nuts were not installed. Watch them take them off next time.
@@larryhale7618 Thank you I appreciate it
Hertz is dropping EV rentals, 100k Teslas to join used car market. Auto Expert TV out of Australia has great overview.
Scotty buys first straight from the line 😆
Same here with Discount Tire-bought a set but one didn’t match the rest-asked for one like the others-sorry, don’t have it, can’t get it for a week and wanted me to pay for it because I’d be using the odd tire in the interim. Asked for my old tires back-already “recycled”
They said the same thing about touchscreens and here it is.
Another shock. I’m shocked at all of the shocks.😂❤
As a Celica enthusiast I hope Toyota brings it back and does use BMW parts like the Supra.
New celica will be an ev or hybrid.
YUK.
scotty i love toyota's too. how about those yamaha engines in some of the models.
never heard you talk about it.
I don't care how much they advertise Telsas or any other EV, I'm not buying one.
