  • In April of 2020, Michael Evans headed into the woods near his house in South Windsor Ontario, to photograph wildlife.
It was his intention to photograph the Spring bird migration, through a small patch of forest meters from his home.
The small forest called the “Oakwood Bush”, is a tiny remnant of old growth forest which runs through South Windsor.
The Oakwood Bush is part of a larger forest complex called “Ojibway Shores” which stretches from South Windsor all the way to the Detroit River.
The global Pandemic and the shutdown that accompanied it, allowed Evans more time.
Time he would use wisley, to not only photograph the bird migration, but to also film it.
It was through this process that Evans decided to document not just the Spring, but Summer, Autumn and Winter as well.
“A Year in the Forest” was born out of this extra time!
Evans spent hundreds of hours in the field, filming and photographing nature in one of the most bio-diverse regions in all of Canada.
Over the course of the year, he was able to chronicle critically endangered and rare species such as: Fox Snakes, Coyotes, Tree Frogs, Giant Moths, Screech Owls and dozens more.
To Evans “A Year in the Forest” was a gift... A once in a lifetime opportunity to explore and discover the wildlife that surrounds us.
Discoveries that, under normal circumstances he may never have had a chance to uncover.

Michael, I'm so appreciative that you did this. There is so much of nature around us to be seen. One just has to look. Nature needs to be protected and cherished. I hope this area never goes away. I hope it is protected forever.
I live in a mini forest.
I've had two white raccoons in my environment. The first one I saw I couldn't believe my eyes. I had no idea that Possums hunt mice either. The first time I saw that, it was amazing. See lots of Deer they love the pasture and the apple trees.
    Thank you,
    Michael ❤
