A text belonging to the same cycle as The Tibetan Book of the Dead, this instruction on the method of self-liberation presents the essence of Dzogchen, The Great Perfection, regarded in Tibet as the highest and most esoteric teaching of the Buddha. Teaching the attainment of Buddhahood in a single lifetime, this text was written and concealed by Guru Padmasambhava in the eighth century and rediscovered six centuries later by Karma Lingpa.

I tried listening to western philosophy and it was so bad. I came back to this.
I love Advaita - Ribhu, Ashtavakra, Avadhuta, but you introduced me to Dzogchen. I feel so blessed. Everytime I listen, I feel I am drowning in bliss, even at a time when the world outside is suffering, due to the pandemic.

Yes, I also liked that. The word jnana is also a cognate of gnosis. I am pretty sure I read somewhere that this is also the origin of the word zen.

As one more familiar with zen and mainstream Mahayana sutras & associated literature, I cannot help but notice how this Tibetan teaching resonates with soto zen, and also with rinzai zen, as "searching for the observer" is much like searching for "your original face". "Exhausting your view" is a prerequisite to awakening. The way some Sanskrit terms are used here is unfamiliar, but the very difference is the very sameness.
Is that related to The Upanisa Sutta in the Samyutta Nikaya: suffering (dukkha)
faith (saddhā)
joy (pāmojja, pāmujja)
rapture (pīti)
tranquillity (passaddhi)
happiness (sukha)
concentration (samādhi)
knowledge and vision of things as they are (yathābhūta-ñāna-dassana)
disenchantment with worldly life (nibbidā)
dispassion (virāga)

Hi Jayasāra, this time really don’t have the words. Absolutely blown away by this teaching. It resonates so much with Eckhart Tolle’s teaching. So simple and yet so profound. Incredibly hopeful and yet there is considerable resistance. I “think “ it may be the idea of letting go of past hurts that has led to much suffering and loss? @@VinDharma Mr. Eckhart Tolle has 'taken' so much from the Buddhist tradition, it is disappointing that he barely ever acknowledges it. I respect him for his work, however, because it is clearly helpful to many people.
