Thank you for getting the microphone! There was a little cutting out and clicking toward the end, but it's a million times better. Thanks for talking about the trousers; those shorts look adorable. One life to live - wear shorts whenever and wherever. People's eyes won't fall out of their heads and roll down the streets. That Ines jacket is fab. Wonderful makes!
ooh love that white and black bargain fabric, would make some lovely trousers!! great vlog you have been busy!! I am the same as you with gathered skirts, I just can;r get on with them. its a shame because its a beautiful skirt and lovely fabric, I think you're right to try a different top and not give up on it!!
Hi Ruth lovely vlog I’m a bit behind 🤭 love all your makes and plans and thank you so much for the shout out 😊 I have another jack tar bag on my wish list 😊❤
Hi Ruth. I love the Style Arc Clare Pant but like you’ve said of yourself I have a very flat bottom. Style arc have a simple tutorial for a flat seat pattern adjustment which I have found to be great. Thank you for another interesting vlog - you have such a calm delivery which makes viewing a real pleasure
I do like that double sided quilted fabric. I have just made a cropped jacket using a thrifted doona that was quilted on both sides and I then just bound all internal seams.
re needle threading the optician made me a cheap pair of slightly stronger glasses just for threading needles and close work. They are fantastic. I use them when hand sewing, threading twin needles, overlocker etc.
Whebever I make a gathered waist item, I then steam the fabric flat at the top of the loose area, no stretching, and the result is 'mini pleats' which lie much more smoothly from the waist to the hips. I do that to about the top 3" It stopped that giant pouf look :)
Love the quilted fabric Ruth, im on the lookout for some. I've just made the Hanbok vest it's a free pattern and I love it. Perfect for your quilted fabric. X
Lovely video Ruth , I too have trouble threading needles - I put a scrap of white paper behind the needle then much easier to thread. Lean the paper against something - hope this helps Julie xx
Hi I bought a needle threader similar to the one you bought from hobbycraft. Mine is red and called a needle fairy. Similar to yours you have to hold the thread a bit taught but not tight, then when you press the button to thread it,(sometimes you have to do it a few times) then when you get it threaded you have to be careful not to unthread it when you remove the needle. However it works great.
Lovely makes as usual Ruth, microphone works but kept cutting in and out when you were talking. Can’t wait to see your quilted fabric made up 🥰💕🥰💕 Frank looked comfy on the sofa 🥰
Hi Ruth, lovely vlog and super makes. Threading needles is an art as you become older 🥸 I use Prym needle threaders and a pair of reading glasses, it’s the only way forward, a cheap pair will be fine. Love the Merchant and Mills fabric, watch the Indian fabric doesn’t shrink or run in the wash. I look forward to seeing your makes soon. Happy sewing xxx
Thanks Donna, good point about the washing. I saw a tip about colour catchers recently which might be useful for this one. I do have some reading glasses, I guess they need their job role enhancing lol See you soon xx
Really enjoying your video, you’re so chilled to listen to. I’ve got a similar needle threader to yours and it does work - you do have to make sure the eye bit is the right way round as there’s a little poky bit that pushes the thread through. Have another play, see if it works.
Hi Ruth ☺ I love all the fabrics you've shared - and you've had quite the sewing month! I recognized your Ikat weave cotton, as I've used that same fabric a while ago. My squares are a dark navy. It's possibly a Japanese fabric. I made the Assembly Line Puff shirt from mine. The weave is comfortable, and the pattern fits very well on me. I hope to see what you'll make from this!
Oh thank you so much Lynn! That is very exciting to know, now I can have a little search on Instagram and see what others have made to help me decide 🥰
Lovely makes and bumper vlog. Merchant and Mills is indeed a gorgeous retailer. I could spend so much money on their website so I try not to look too often 😂
Lovely vlog Ruth and this first denim jacket is absolutely gorgeous! You have a lovely relaxing voice and it was really nice to cut my fabric while listening to you 😊. My birthday was in March too and I also think that I spent way too much but it it so hard to not feel like the sewing festivals happening our birthday month should be a treat for our birthday 😅. The mic is great, it was just cutting off here and then but not an issue for me personally xx
Yay!!!! The sound was great (with a few little hiccups when I think you touched the mic!) but otherwise great! Getting the right trouser fit seems to be a bit of a puzzle but your shorts are lovely. I have just made the Papercut Palisade trousers that I really like. I was scared to make them for ages because of the 'origami' pockets but they worked a treat. I am now cutting out a M&M indian cotton that I got last year, so I will definitely jump on to see what new fabrics they have. Needle threaders - they always break. Because they are so fine they probably just suffer from metal fatigue. Just use a magnifying glass which is what I do until they come up with something like a graphene threader or some other new material gizmo!
Love your new Ines shirt and some lovely purchases too. I did not have an issue with the sounds before. The microphone worked mostly fine, but it cut out for 2-3 seconds about 10 times throughout the vlog. It seems different people experience either less or more issues 🤔
Hi Ruth. I’m new to your channel - just came across it this evening. I enjoyed your vlog. Sorry to hear about your shoulder - I’m a physio so treat that sort of thing all the time! Sounds like you need to strengthen it. I like your last fabric - but I prefer the ochre side which I think suits your colouring very well. Diana
Can hear you much better now , thank you! Can I ask how much fabric you used for your Inez shirt? Trying to use stash fabric - I must stop buying 1.5 metres of woven and just buy 2 then I would definitely have enough for my makes !
Hi Ruth, I was told I had a rotary cuff injury by a physio but after months of pain I went privately and it was diagnosed frozen shoulder. I tell you this because I listened to a podcast recently and frozen shoulder is linked to menopause 😮. I do t consider myself to menopausal yet but I am 48. I’ve had a steroid injection so not painful really but still struggle to reach my back to undress etc and it’s been 8 months tomorrow!!
Hi Paula, that's so interesting. I was beginning to wonder if it could be related to the menopause but because I'm generally feeling much much better I didn't want to to admit it. I have an appointment tomorrow so will mention it. Has the injection helped you? I completely understand the struggle to reach your back, it's so painful I have had to buy some front closing underwear (sorry if that's oversharing) x
Hiya, great makes as always! The microphone sounds great, I'm curious which one did you go for? I'm about to buy one too, I also didn't want a clip on one, but I use my phone, are u using a camera?
Thank you so much Cara 🥰 I use a camera but the mic I bought is designed for phones, laptops or pc's. I managed to get it to work with my camera too so bonus as you could use it with either. I have added the link in the description in case you wanted to take a look x
I love m&m fabric too...❤ ...everytime i look, there is always something i must have and i tell myself its an investment cos of the quality 😂 ( yes unfortunately i am quite good at convincing myself). 50% of my stash is m&m as i can't bear to cut into them. 😢. Nice to hear you btw, but still some minor issues here and there
You are much easy to hear now. But the microphone must not be plugged in quite all the way because it seems to cut out for a second or two every so often. At first I thought it was my phone, but I checked on my tablet and it happened there too, in the same spots. The volume is definitely much better though because you have a lovely soft voice, but without a microphone, it can be difficult to hear you.
Ruth, congratulations on mastering a pair of pants that fit. I also have an exceptionally flat bottom. I have yet to find one I'm really satisfied with. A couple are close, but not quite. How in the world do you know how much to take out to get rid of that hand full of fabric right under my bum on the back of my thigh?!! How many pairs of sort-of-ok-trousers can I wear??? Your new microphone made it a lot easier to hear you this time. My sewing machine didn't drown you out.😂
The microphone works well, although it did cut out a few times later on. All your makes are lovely! I really like the look of the Southbank sweater in the rib knit, it looks very high quality in that fabric ❤ with the skirt, I think a more fitted top would help, or you could try removing one layer of elastic so there’s just two channels which might help it be slightly less voluminous 😊
Hi 👋🏻 I didn’t have any problem hearing you before…. Unfortunately now the sound is distorted, it seems to be amplifying everything I’ve had to turn the sound down and the sound drops out occasionally. 🤔☹️. 😊
Can you just recut the pair that is too big into the size 5's? Also, the crotch can be lowered on the one you raised it on. I've had to raise and lower it quite often on ready to wear trousers in the past. You just re-sew the seam that goes from the front to the back a bit lower. It's quite easy. It will pull the trousers in slightly on the hips/upper thigh, though, but not much. Just for interest's sake, if you have to raise the crotch, it isn't quite as good of a fix, but you sew the seam that goes from one leg to the other together a bit lower, and it brings in the front and back seam, raising it, just in case you need to do that sometime. It would work fine for you, but if you had a more round bottom, it takes out some of the fullness in the back a bit, so doesn't work as well, and it also shortens the leg length slightly.
The microphone is great. We can hear you perfectly. Your shirt is fabulous. It looks super. All your makes are so good.
Thank you Angela 🥰
Another lovely vlog Ruth, you’ve bought some lovely items, can’t wait to see your makes. Thank you for sharing. ❤❤
Thank you so much 😊

I think the gathered slacks would go well with a fitted body suit and glittery sandals
Ooo I like that idea! Thank you 🥰

Agreed!
Ooo good idea! That's a definite possibility x
Love the Pomona shorts ,high waisted 🎉
I have tried the trousers but I didn't get the sizing quite right, I may try again though as lots of people do seem to really like them x
Shorts and tights are as timeless look if you ask me!
Totally agree!
That was a lovely vlog Ruth, thank you for sharing your makes & beautiful new fabrics 😍 x
Thank you so much Claire 😊
❤the sound was awesome! Lovely makes! Have a great week!

Yes that is what was happening to me, I got it threaded and then it pulled out again when I took the needle out. I will keep practicing 🥰
Yes it works I can hear you loud and clear, The sound is good.
Thank you 🥰
Ha ha Ruth lovely vlog and great makes. Your sewing level is top notch xx
Thank you so much 🥰
Beautiful, beautiful fabrics. I too adore Merchant and Mills but rarely look as I don’t want to be tempted!!! Enjoy your social. 😊 Lynne
Oh it's dangerous isn't it but soooo temping 🥰
Lovely makes as usual Ruth, microphone works but kept cutting in and out when you were talking. Can’t wait to see your quilted fabric made up 🥰💕🥰💕 Frank looked comfy on the sofa 🥰
I'll keep trying, one day I'll get a nice clear sounding video that everyone can hear lol x
@@SeamStressedRuth I could hear you before so not sure what the problem is with other viewers 💕🥰
I’m obsessed with the Inis shirt because of you. So all I could see with the white with black squares was another Inis. 😊
Ah Mary I would not need much convincing that's for sure lol

You scored on that quilted fabric!!!! So pretty!
I feel very lucky to have found that one 🥰
Your mic is great. I like the shirt. That is the way I feel with some gathered skirts I have.
Someone has suggested steaming the gathers so they lie a bit flatter, I'm going to give that a try and hope it improves things 😊
I love all your fabrics so glad I found your channel.
Oh thank you Tracy, that is so kind of you to say 🥰

Lovley video as always Ruth! Love all your makes! Thanks for sharing 😊 xx
Thank you Gen 🥰

Totally on the merchant and mills page with you. Have so many of their patterns. Am going to make the heroine jeans and the omilie dress next ❤
You are braver than me, jeans are still a very intimidating project 😊
@SeamStressedRuth I've been sewing for about 35 plus years and this is the first pair I am making 😱

Yes i'm sure they put them on in March just for us 🥰 We shall have to try and meet up next time for a little birthday celebration x
@@SeamStressedRuth That would be lovely!!! Maybe at the Stitch Festival next year :) xx
Shame about the gathered skirt. If it doesn't style up well, i wonder if you could unpick the waistband and take some panels of fabric out
It's worth a try, I'm going to try steaming the gathers flat first and see if that helps 🤞

Oh good and I usually use around 1.6m but I tend to buy 2 to allow for any shrinkage or 'just in case' requirements 😊
Throughout the clip there are 2 beeps sort of right next to each other. It sounds like someone is turning the sound off then on again.
Thank you for letting me know, I've been working on improving the sound in my vlogs so hopefully it will get better soon 🥰
