    Good video! Here in Brazil we use a similar technique to catch wolf fish (traíra), actually the technique is the same, the only difference is that instead of using a lure, we normally use pieces of fish or meat.

      Thanks for the info, that's very interesting. Another technique that's gaining popularity in South Africa for targeting catfish is the "popping" method. It's a very fun technique and works on most predatory fish species and will likely work for Wolf fish as well: th-cam.com/video/vrjysHyLmQM/w-d-xo.html

    Ek het al van die baber roep tegniek gehoor maar eerlik waar het ek om een of ander rede nog nooit presies probeer sien hoe dit werk nie en moet sê ek dink dis amazing! Ek het nou egter 2 vrae: Eerstens watse lures gebruik mens of is dit enige vibrating tipe lure? Tweedens werk dit by enige dam of rivier waar daar babers is?

    • @Worsdier
      @Worsdier  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jacques,
      1: Jy kan enige pumpkin seed lure gebruik. Ek gebruik die vibrerende lures wat ek self maak, maar gewone lures werk ook goed.
      2: Dit werk die beste in damme met modder water, soos Bloemhof dam en Baberspan. Die tegniek kan ook in die Vaal rivier, Vanderkloof dam en die Oranje rivier toegepas word, maar daar gebruik mens gewoonlik 'n sagter tegniek, sien hierdie video: th-cam.com/video/tH1vqUrPFck/w-d-xo.html

    dink oom die sal werk by rietvlei dam?

    • @Worsdier
      @Worsdier  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Die roep tegniek werk beter in die Vaal en Oranje riviere asook hulle vertakkings. Probeer dalk eerder die popping tegniek, maar ek dra geen kennis oor Rietvlei se hengel so dis moeilik vir my om advies te gee.

    What was the average time between bites ?

    • @Worsdier
      @Worsdier  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Hendrik White Hi Hendrik, I started fishing at around 9am and left at 1:30pm and caught nine barbel for the day. It was a very hot day and I took regular breaks in-between to rehydrate and rest. I consider this a slow day, because I had to cover allot of water between bites. Often when you find a good spot you can easily catch more than ten fish one after the other. It's all about finding the correct area that works on that particular day.

    Nice.
    Please add weights and be sure to get the shot of each fish

    • @Worsdier
      @Worsdier  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, I forgot the weights of the smaller ones, but the largest one was 14kg. I didn't get nice footage of the fish that were in frame because with a GoPro you never know where the camera is pointing and using wifi to connect to a phone causes a "chopping" sound on my unit so I don't use it. Ideally I will need another person to record video from another perspective so that I can show the fish.

      Thanks for the reply. Yes I am aware of the GoPro issue. I have a Garmin VIRB with a screen which makes it so much easier. 14Kg! good size, my biggest was an 18kg on 4kg line in the Vaal, was a battle to remember!

    it this dam infested with catfish or what. this is really amaizing

    • @Worsdier
      @Worsdier  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it's not infested with them, they are predators and the splashing of the rod tip attracts them.

    • @gabrielmusasa
      @gabrielmusasa 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      so does the colour of your bait have an influence on their biting or it would not matter. Secondly what the name of that clipper or device in your hand

    • @Worsdier
      @Worsdier  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lure colour is not important for barbel, they mainly hunt their prey using vibration and smell. They don't have good eyesight and the water in Bloemhof dam is very murky, so they wouldn’t be able to see well anyway. The lip gripper I'm using is a Boga Grip 260, made by Eastaboga Tackle in the USA.

    Nice next Time please show your lure

    • @Worsdier
      @Worsdier  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      See some of my other videos for the lures I use. For this technique the lure is of little importance, it’s all about the “calling” of the fish.
