Sigh. Absorbing Man was never an "official" member of the Wrecking Crew. If this made the episode... IMPOSSIBLE to get through, please accept this comment as as sincere apology as possible.
Sal I can't believe you got a minor immaterial detail wrong from the last 80+ years of comics....I mean I forgive you but now I know you're not a robot from the future sent back to bring us all joy
The MCU needs to canonize Bova. But only this creepy "Quid pro cow" version of Bova they've spawned on the couch. And see how long they can milk it. Quicksilver: visibly shudders
I would actually 100% be down for a Scarlet Witch vs. High Evolutionary movie/series in the MCU, if only for the privilege of watching Elizabeth Olson and Chukwudi Iwuji attempt to out-ham each other on screen.
The first arc of Young Avengers is a perfect Kang story. If they do anything in MCU with Kang moving forward, It should be that. All the pieces are there. Two words Iron Lad.
You got Iron Lad America Chavez someone who can travel the multiverse. Definitely someone the council would have issues with. Wanda’s twins have history with Immortus in the comics. We could literally have a great story that delves a lil deeper into the Kang character while showing how important these younger characters are.
Beast going after Ms Marvel and remembering that he can't swim and them both drowning was hilarious and had me in tears. Falcon basically saying yes master was crazy also if Vision did have a soul he probably would go to Robo hell with Bender
Bova the Cow-Woman having the voice and personality of Herbert from Family Guy… may be the greatest thing I’ve ever seen. Thank you, Comicpop. Thank you.
In defense of Wonder Man: Wonder Man #2 (by Gerald Jones), got it in a comic book grab bag. Made me a fan of him. Enchantress and Hollywood, hi jinks, guest staring the Avengers West Coast with great continuity shout outs.
Great episode, just a note as someone of romani descent if you want to avoid mentioning the g-slur it's totally alright to call Wanda and Pietro romani.
I think they missed the chance with solo Wonderman by not taking a page from Paul Chadwick’s Concrete and have Simon get treated more like a living special effect
The mark of a quality back issues is making me laugh till my side hurts. This episode made me cry with laughter. Thank you guys for another great episode. I needed a good laugh
See, I always assumed that Chthon was controlling Scarlet Witch in DS:itMoM, since Strange even says the Darkhold's controlling Wanda, and that we would see Chthon show up one day, in the flesh... Maybe in the Agatha spin-off, or some other project down the road... This episode was SO GOOD, btw!!! 😁
I feel like modern Kang stories are all the same sort of thing? Like, a Crisis on Infinite Earths type of story where the timeline is at stake and the Avengers go to the future to meet fun alternative versions of themselves. Off the top of my head there's been four of those stories in the last fifteen years: 1. Kang vs. Ultron in Bendis' Avengers 2. Jonathan Hickman's Avengers' Original Sin crossover tie-in 3. That Uncanny Avengers story with Kang's Avengers (Doom 2099, fascist Psylocke, Deathlok Abomination, Earth X Spider-Girl, etc) 4. Mark Waid's Avengers (?)
The madness wasn't even Wanda's fault this time! People like to focus on her massive screw ups but the lady has been through a lot and deserves some respect 😅 she also had a great run in 2023 🎉
Kang in the Earths Mightiest Heroes cartoon is amazing, its the only time I've ever well and truly LOVED Kang. He just isn't the Big Bad of the entire series material, he's a good one and done villain. He's a piece of a larger sprawling narrative, he goes back in time to kill Captain America and save his future. There's no Iron Lad or any other nonsense like that. Just a future despot trying to meddle with the past and that comes into conflict with the heroes. Such a simple idea.
fun fact in his 1940s comics when published by quality comics the full title was Max mercury quicksilver! Also Whizzer's wife was "miss America she flew and kneed people real hard!
Wonder Man not being beloved is why I was actually looking forward to Yahya Abdul Mateen playing him in a series but it’s cancellation just makes me want him as T’Challa. I will never get over not recasting though I completely get & respect the reasoning behind it.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 Y’all had me dying all thru out this vid like y’all were just hanging out after school cracking jokes. I really gotta see y’all in person at a Bmore convention some time y’all chill af
I had to look up and see if a Wundagore was a real thing, because Wundagore sounds a lot like Wanda Gore, and in a story about Wanda going mad, that would be quite a coincidence lol
ABSORBING MAN isn’t part of the WRECKING CREW but THUNDERBALL is who has a ball and chain and for some reason was a DR prior to gaining working class themed abilities lol
This was absolutely brilliant. The idea of the Avengers franchise actually taking an insane chance like this is incredibly unlikely for them now but I would sure as hell like to see it
I read this story back in 2021 and I thought it was pretty fun. I don’t have a lot of experience with Classic Avengers, but I’ve liked the ones with art by John Bryne and George Perez. My copy was from 1994 and the trade was titled, The Yesterday Quest. It’s one of the older Marvel trades where they use to cut out or add portions of the story that did/didn’t relate to the main plot line. Specifically, I think the last page was from an X-Men comic, where it reveals who Wanda and Pietro’s Dad is.
I’ve been waiting for you to do this story!! This was one of the several stories my dad had me read growing up. Always loved the cover of a weird corrupted looking Wanda holding the rest of the avengers hostage
Wait was the Absorbing Man ever part of the Wrecking Crew? I thought Thunderball was the ball and chain guy in the Wrecking Crew. Absorbing Man well predates the Wrecker much less the Wrecking Crew, and has his ball in chain because he was part of a chain gain when he got his powers (by drinking water that Loki had spiked with a potion) and his ball and chain got the power too.
The Kang Dynasty is a great story and rightly listed as the top Avengers story on multiple lists! It is true that you haven’t done it yet. The ending is so dang good.
Its funny that Absorbing Man became water considering that he was defeated by Thor in his early appearances via becoming water and the issue was utterly horrifying.
I liked High Evolutionary in GOTG3, but he only worked there because he wasn't focused on often and there was no mention of his backstory. He isn't fleshed out enough to carry a full movie nor does he have good comic material; what they COULD do is have him be an enemy that instigates the plot but is dispatched early on and then the Avengers have to deal with the main threat of Chthon (but not before H.E reveals that he was doing all his evolutionary crap because of the Beyonders, like in the comics)... Although I wouldn't mind seeing a live-action version of the EW tie-in where High Evolutionary met ALF, that was the one fun part about that crossover IMO :p
That was when Ultron was merged Hank Pym, though, so it might have been the remnants of Pym’s consciousness that got soul-swapped instead of Ultron himself. Addendum: I hated every word I just typed as part of this response.
@@TupocalypseShakurOh, wait, you’re talking about the Abnett/Lanning GOTG run, aren’t you? My bad, I got mixed up. Warlock is technically an artificial life-form, though, isn’t he? So maybe it wasn’t a soul-swap deal so much as it was Ultron downloading himself into Warlock’s mind through AI body-hacking shenanigans.
Sal, you should do one of Kang’s great stories. Avengers Forever, Kang Dynasty, only myself left to conquer. I know you making fun of The Avengers is a show long bit…but as a classic Avengers fan I’d like to see you review “the good stuff.”
The Kang arc in the Earth's Mightesr Heroes cartoon was great and I think could be adapted in the MCU. The Avengers messing with time causes issues in the future so he goes back to fix it and kill them in the process
There were way too many Bova references without someone going for the Bova deez nuts joke. Every single time I heard it, I paused to see if anyone would take the bait
I always thought they missed the elephant in the room with Wanda and the problem of introducing the mutants with some kind of alternate version of House Of M, and merely changing her line at the end to be "More Mutants". It would have fit in great with the Doctor Strange 2 film, considering they were already in an alternate universe, which also already had mutants in it. It would have been perfect.
Maybe I'm crazy, but I could swear Cthon using the Dark Hold to take advantage of Wanda's pain was textual in Multiverse of Madness itself. Like I though that was what was going on already. That's why I've been so confused about people saying Wanda was out of character. She was being tempted and possessed by spooky evil magic.
I do think they made a mistake in trying to go big massive event style Avengers film next. They should have went smaller more character driven, adapt the Masters of Evil attack the mansion story, make it personal and give the new Avengers line up a chance. But instead it’s Kang, time travel, Secret Wars and multiverse stuff. All things people only care about when they care about the characters in those stories.
yes he was made into an Xmen foe for a bit but thankfully got discouraged from funding the creation of the Sentinel models that killed most superhumans in Days of Future Past. he's not as mean now
I am shocked they didnt make a Puppetmaster reference from the movies.. a puppetmaster who put the souls into his puppets and they can either fight for good or evil. and it's magic shit too.. so I am sooo shocked they didn't mentioned that.
When I was watching Dr. Strange 2 in theaters, and they got to the part about "dream-walking" or whatever, I really thought that the twist would be that an evil Wanda from elsewhere in the multiverse "dream-walked" into our Wanda, and maybe Strange could defeat Dark Wanda, and thus cure our Wanda at the end. Instead Marvel chose to character-assassinate her. But I like this idea you propose, maybe there's still a chance they can turn it around!

There's a panel in Secret Wars where Absorbing Man and Wrecking Crew member Thunderball are comparing the size of their wrecking balls
Marvel treats wrecking ball themed villains like scissors in the house. It’s best to have two.
I'll take it under consideration
Duh the wreaking crew are a DC team! It wouldn't make sense if he was in an Image team
Sal I can't believe you got a minor immaterial detail wrong from the last 80+ years of comics....I mean I forgive you but now I know you're not a robot from the future sent back to bring us all joy

What would Sal scream? A word or phrase, his "Shazam" if you will

“This…SUCKSSSSSSS”

Quicksilver: visibly shudders
Honestly ... That reminds me of that weird Teen titans go episode.😂
“Did you leave your wife like you said you would!?” Almost made me cut myself from laughing while I was shaving/cutting my hair! 😂🤣
the Bova impressions are timeless. when i first saw her in Avengers as a little kid I was like "why is Quicksilver talking to a cow?"
I would actually 100% be down for a Scarlet Witch vs. High Evolutionary movie/series in the MCU, if only for the privilege of watching Elizabeth Olson and Chukwudi Iwuji attempt to out-ham each other on screen.
I love the idea of Hawkeye filling his pockets with food before he's kicked out.
The garbage men part of this episode was so unexpected and funny. Sal's note of "This is the book. This is The Avengers" was so good😂😂
I was rolling lol
