Country boy from the south right here from North Carolina myself born Luther Perkins has been my main guitar influence ever since I was a little kid started playing guitar I'm 20 now and Luther Perkins is still my number 1 guitar hero I even use flatwound strings and a good ol' tube amp
Luther's great. And I love it that he looks nervous as hell on TV--he's human! Sam Phillips said that Luther would get all nervous and flustered in the studio because Cash would get impatient with him, so the key to the trio's success was "to take it off Luther", meaning doing everything to put Luther at ease so he could hit his licks.
Luther Perkins is a musical genius with that electric guitar, I love how mid way thru he makes you think the song is over then picks it back up again bet that fooled a lot of people back in 1958 lol
Brother Mack There wasn't a need for one in 1950s folk music. They eventually did recruit a drummer when they gained popularity and had to change from a folk style to a more traditional country.
i was 11 years old when this was a hit with me, I still play my guitar and sing this song 60 years later and I think that this is one of his favorites as well.
Honestly, now listening to the rhythm, johnny cash would have never gotten to be a star without Luther Perkins. That man had talent. Johnny had the voice. But without Luthers fill ins and rhythm, there's just a country artist strumming a guitar.
It's incredible how deep his voice was and with no microphone too ! You can tell God Blessed Johnny with that voice and something magical was happening if i saw this in 1958 id be speechless . 1 in Million voices
I went to Dyess today.....his boyhood home...absolutely amazing. I had goosebumps the entire time....he is a very special man. I normally don't get star struck since I worked in radio for 13 years....I've met Garth, George Strait, Tim Mcgraw, Kenny Chesney.....you name them, I've met them. Nothing compares to what I did today. I was absolutely blown away.....
Cash had, and still has, an amazing effect on people with his larger than life persona! The charisma he had was tangible and still is somehow through his spirit. He was likely the most genuine megastar ever to live in America to date. Likely no one will surpass him in this regard. He was and still is an emblematic and iconic figure. In his person, he held the opposing forces with which all of mankind struggles - good & evil, darkness & light, love & hate, hope & desperation, healing & pain, life & death. It is highly likely that anyone will ever surpass his ability to maintain his sanity, on the ‘world stage’, and be so transparent as a person. Only Cash!
Finally someone agrees every time I say this someone's always like will Hendrix was better yes and his style he was but Luther had his own style and Luther's style speaks to me more he's the reason why I've been playing guitar since I was 7 I'm 20 now and I even use flatwound strings and a tube amp with a 12au7 preamp tube I get a really close Luther Perkins tone
If you listen to a studio outake of the recording of this Luther does indeed miss a note during the opening and you can hear him say 'I gotta hit all of the strings'
I'm Saudi, I work so far from home 16 hours away.. I love playing Cash songs along the country, deserts and cities I pass He's my best friend on the road
"Home of the Blues" was a blues record shop that Cash frequented before he became too famous and busy. He always loved Memphis blues. This great song came from that connection.
I saw john here in London many years ago he was a giant of a man with a heart as big as his frame & lots of talent within that frame I'm sad he is dead but happy he cant hear todays rubbish.
Theres no doubt about , it was Luther Perkin's backing of Johnny Cash in the early days which gave Johnny a great start in his career........RIP Luther and you too Johnny !
I'm so happy that he finally won the heart of the one he truly loved, June Carter! They were meant for each other, and I loved them both! My grandmother, Ella Carter was a cousin to June.
Just love this song! Always had since I was a kid . I am 57 now. If you haven’t watched it watch Nora Jones sing it at his tribute concert they did on tv years ago. She does a great version.
Love this song! I'm a high schooler and most kids don't know of the legend Johnny cash most like the songs with no meaning or emotion all that it is about is drugs, booze and hookers. Well have fun is all I tell them.
Brother John is so ingrained in what's good in the USA....feels like I can always here his voice around every corner I come to! Proof that TRUE love NEVER dies...#LongBlackCadillac
I play this on a Friday night on my way home in my truck along with flat top, fullsom prison, etc etc. Simplicity itself and like Elvis anyone can sing-along. Top video. Thanks. Kev
I'd never heard this one before. I saw the big town with matt dillon and heard this song. Great find. I listened to alot of JC to and this one eluded me
Just around the corner there's heartache Down the street that losers use If you can wade in through the teardrops You'll find me at the Home of the Blues I walk and cry while my heartbeat Keeps time with the drag of my shoes The sun never shines through this window of mine It's dark at the Home of the Blues Oh, but the place is filled with the sweetest mem'ries Memories so sweet that I cry Dreams that I've had left me feeling so bad I just want to give up and lay down and die So if you've just lost your sweetheart And it seems there's no good way to choose Come along…
Luther Perkins. One of the greatest guitar solos ever recorded.
Country boy from the south right here from North Carolina myself born Luther Perkins has been my main guitar influence ever since I was a little kid started playing guitar I'm 20 now and Luther Perkins is still my number 1 guitar hero I even use flatwound strings and a good ol' tube amp
So awkward on stage, but the sound that comes from it is just unmatched. Such a distinct sound
@@alexanders1330 I learned to play to guitar because of Luther! A lot of my earlier work and even modern work mirrors his sound.
Oh Johnny, even your most somber tones have the ability to turn my mood into something much more positive.
That was cursed af
I know right?
Absolutely love this song!! I covered it I'd be honored if you check it out on my channel 😃 th-cam.com/video/C_eNzalWbAU/w-d-xo.html

Simple but so perfect . Such a unique country sound. They could hold their own up against anyone .
Luther Perkins is a musical genius with that electric guitar, I love how mid way thru he makes you think the song is over then picks it back up again bet that fooled a lot of people back in 1958 lol
+Matthew Smithson Its amazing that just 3 guys can make such good tunes and great sounds. No need for a band.
So, this isn't a band? A trio is still a band, you know.
So shy lol. What a badass
?????? No need for a damn drummer.
Brother Mack There wasn't a need for one in 1950s folk music. They eventually did recruit a drummer when they gained popularity and had to change from a folk style to a more traditional country.
Broadcasted in 1958 and I'm watching this in 2015... Your music is still going strong Johnny, my children will know your name and songs.
Brettski WE STILL HAVE HOPE IN MUSIC THANKS
Sleduji v roce 2023,jsou skvělí❤
i was 11 years old when this was a hit with me, I still play my guitar and sing this song 60 years later and I think that this is one of his favorites as well.
I was only 8 or 9.
I was 15 but I'm 21 right now cash is the best no one will ever come close to him
I hope you guys are still around and doing good
This is real country & some rockabilly. The crap today makes anyone sound good. You had to have talent in these good old days
Honestly, now listening to the rhythm, johnny cash would have never gotten to be a star without Luther Perkins. That man had talent. Johnny had the voice. But without Luthers fill ins and rhythm, there's just a country artist strumming a guitar.
Thats how most bands work idk why you say that..its redundant
@@ishthefish9006 It's the Luther sound he is talking about. Dont' be so rude
The Beautiful SUN sound. Thanks Mister PHILLIPS we are all together again
It's incredible how deep his voice was and with no microphone too ! You can tell God Blessed Johnny with that voice and something magical was happening if i saw this in 1958 id be speechless . 1 in Million voices
He was a star before I was born and it's proof he lives on in his music if someone as young as I can become a fan of the Man In Black. Love it :)
He was the greatest musican ever. Simply the only one. Wrote more than 5000 songs and was THE star in his time.
He king in black
+Johnny CashFan whole heartily agree with you there.

Luther Perkins one of the best guitarists ever he makes Johnny sound like Johnny Cash.
At the start Luther looking in the air as if "am I going to miss a note here" ? haha.
+Kade Berrier in almost every televised show with Luther in it he does the "look of into space thing" and shows off.. it funny!
When I saw him in person in the late sixties he had that look on stage, great gimmick haha.
+Paul Henry Dallaire lol you didn't see him
If you listen to a studio outake of the recording of this Luther does indeed miss a note during the opening and you can hear him say 'I gotta hit all of the strings'
Nope never.....
The greatest musican
No doubt.
Yes He is :>
Love Johnny but i think Hank Sr might have something to say about that

Great song of a great talent. IT is September 2017 and i love the songs Performed by him.
Just around the corner there's heartache
Down the street that losers use
If you can wade in through the teardrops
You'll find me at the Home of the Blues
I walk and cry while my heartbeat
Keeps time with the drag of my shoes
The sun never shines through this window of mine
It's dark at the Home of the Blues
Oh, but the place is filled with the sweetest mem'ries
Memories so sweet that I cry
Dreams that I've had left me feeling so bad
I just want to give up and lay down and die
So if you've just lost your sweetheart
And it seems there's no good way to choose
Come along…
Great music!
Johnny Cash; February 26, 1932 - September 12, 2003
