Luther play is great here. It has that special tone we love. He is a legend and the only reason I picked a guitar up is because of Johnny Cash and Luther Perkins. Bob Wootton did a great job too at keeping the sound alive and very close to Luther'a style.

this appearance on a tv show was 1968, Luther Monroe Perkins Jnr, the guitar picker died August 5, 1968. The crossed eyed drummer was the fastest country drummer in Nashville and Marshall Grant wrote a great warts and all book as Bassist and longtime manager of Johnny Cash, for a time he sent search parties out looking for Me Johnny when he was Poppin' pills for a while. Is Marshal playing through Deluxe or a Twin?!! Those guys had their stage volume down to a science! True Professionals. I also had a Sunburst Esquire AND a 1963 Super Reverb. I bought the Esquire for $325 (A lot) and the Super for $250 in 1979 for my new band. The Super is the same amp as the older Bassman but with a reverb spring. Both amps used AlNico speakers NICE! Note: 5881 tubes are just the military version of the 6L6.

Epiphone Newport bass is nicknamed " batwing" because of the head. The 6-string batwing guitars were "Wilshire". Interesting that the drummer is playing right-handed and left-footed. I've never seen that, altho' I know several drummers who play the opposite (left-handed, right-footed)

@@Psychobilly007 cool. I think Luther Perkins was a auto mechanic that played guitar . It was him that came up with that classic guitar thump sound. He was no professional but it's the simplicity of his playing that made it so good and unique. One of those " less it more " things. He took the basic skills he had and made a sound of musical legend! A fender guitar and fender amplifier, palm muting strings, a little reverb, and some delay. Boom tick tick boom tick tick....Genius!
