It's also worth mentioning that running the native PS5 app will save you about 15GBs in comparison to the PS4 app. The reason why, is because Sony's backwards compatibility solution creates some chunky files that are needed to emulate the PS4 apps, those files will be labelled as "Other" in your storage management screen, and you can't access the folder. That's a huge plus, since we only have 600GB to work with.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has sold over 30 million copies. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion never even hit 10 million sales. Though the upgrades have been plentiful except for Special Edition on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 they have been free upgrades.
ICYMI Oblivion just got patched with FPS Boost on Series X/S. Now the game finally runs at 60fps on top of the 4K resolution boost it got on the One X.
Free upgrade to PS5 version was nice. Wasn’t expecting that. Really loving Skyrim on the PS5. Just picked one up recently and decided to give Skyrim a try. Old save loaded right up no issues. Just had to download my mods but that only took seconds. The new 2 second load times into zones make everything so much smoother. Basically I didn’t have to pay anything and got a great upgrade in overall performance and appearance. Very happy with it so far.
Yes you get the upgrade for free, but the Anniversary Edition content has to be bought separately, and the game will pester you on the main menu screen forever until you buy it, and it will add at least 5 to 10 seconds to your initial menu load depending on how long the game takes to check the internet for whether you own the added content or not and display the pester message.
@@pulseofme6884 , Uh, HOW would you get the upgrade if you don't have an Internet connection? Just FYI, the "AE" edition is just the "SE" version but with CC downloads. I bought the upgrade and on restarting it just downloaded all the Creation Club content automatically before I was allowed to continue to the main menu. I'm seeing no added delay to launch the game though. The game didn't look any better because it's just extra armor options etc... I had a clean install of SE (then upgraded to AE) but I promptly reinstalled all my mods. So the AE version is rather pointless if you already mod unless there's some quest DLC you like that's in AE only. Also... I unchecked AMBIENT OCCLUSION as it was giving odd shadow textures on characters necks and under their arms. It's in the unmodded SE/AE versions. No idea if that's new but I never noticed it until recently. None of my mods got rid of it. Only unchecking it in game settings.

It is such a shame that a masterpiece like Skyrim did not get more love from Bethesda, why is it that machines like the Ps5 and series X do not run at maximum pc settings let alone not being a locked 60 when these machines outclass those pc requirements? Adding insult to injury is the fact that many mods now no longer work, thanks Bethesda!
Because their pc requirements are out of date/irrelevant and their engine is shit so running above 60fps can result in issues like broken physics(pc has a fix for that but you need to maintain high framerate, which these shit consoles can't do even at 60) and possibly scripts(also tied to framerate).
If you use the right mods you will be very impressed by how good it looks. I’m currently running mods that cover pretty much every aspect of the visuals and sound, and some gameplay mods. It feels like the game I always imagined it to be years ago, but it is soooo much better. Even on console the mod community is very helpful and I went from a complete novice to feeling like I have 100+ mod load out dialed in thanks to other people being being nice enough to offer advice.
@@SLX25 Yes it did, on PS5 before the AE update you could use Wrighton's 60fps mod to get THE SAME performance as demonstrated by DF, in addition there were mods that enhanced FOV scale and detail level LOD also by Wrighton but those are now nonfunctional which for me meant that Bethesda's update broke my game because the mods were suddenly no longer compatible and my save game was reliant on them resulting in giant holes in the world and other weirdness forcing a new game. On top of that because the aforementioned mods no longer work it also means far more LOD pop-in and a more narrow field of view with the only actual benefit being faster loading, which granted is nice but for me at least it is ultimately not worth it. To make things worse Wrighton has tried to fix the mods but Bethesda did something to Skyrim AE that has made .INI injection non functional which means that unless Bethesda fixes the issue which I fear they will that means that none of this will EVER work again, Skyrim AE should have been optional that would have solved everything.
Texture mods are still needed to bring it to a modern visual level, but I was disappointed to find there's still stuttering and frame rate drops when those mods are installed. 60fps unlocked, faster loading times - that's really the only thing we're getting. Would have liked to have seen keyboard and mouse functionality enabled, too.
This is Why i bought Skyrim on PC cause all these years later and the original PC version with Mods is still better then anniversary edition and cheaper to.
I haven’t noticed a lot of frame rate issues due to texture mods. Grass mods seem to be the only things that causes me problems. What texture mods are you using?
There's frame rate drops with the vanilla version with no mods. I experienced stutter and frame rate drops in and around Falkreath during a dragon battle.
its crazy it took this long to get a 60fps console version of skyrim. actually a really strong example of how anemic the last gen (ps4/xbone) consoles were in terms of cpu horsepower
I think its more of a lazy developer problem. There's no way that a PS3 game requires a PS5 to run at 60fps. Look at the recent GTA remasters. PS2 games running at 20-30 fps on a PS5. Ridiculous.
Yeah but you couldn’t tell them Ps4 and Xbox one were meager upgrades when they launched without pissing everyone off 😂 I was calling them Ps3.5 and Xbox 360.5 from the start

@@aaronquarles3902 actually the lack of "feature" on ps5 is the result of Sony's rules about modding unfortunately. And the dynamic res comes from the One X version, Bethesda didn't bother upgrading it
“Its has already been ten years and a lot has changed” they really havent. The legendary, special and anniversary editions are just more of the same thing with new fluff with each re-release. The game plays and feels today exactly how it did back in 2011
People really need to stop counting the legendary edition as one of the money grabbing constant releases, it’s literally just the regular game but with the dlc. It’s like any of the other countless games that get a game of the year edition or whatever with the dlc bundled together. Nobody counts the goty edition of Arkham city as “another rerelease”
the engine is old and not very good. it probably wouldn't support this stuff by default and would take time and effort to implement but this is just a free upgrade not a real next gen port so it's not worth their time
YES! This is exactly what I wanted! :D I can't wait for next year's Skyrim to come out! Maybe we'll get lucky enough to get a limited edition scratch and sniff sticker on the game case or something equivalent that really changes up the gameplay experience or something as equally as cutting edge! Oooooohhh the possibilties!
You should really be blaming every other studio that haven’t been able to challenge it in this genre. Why would Bethesda rush to create a new game when they have basically 0 competition.
@@ThaMobstarrJRPGs are a different genre and Obsidian hardly deserves to be on that list anymore. CDPR and BioWare are fair but they don’t really offer the same open ended experience.
NOTE: After playing vanilla Skyrim again on my XSS (On the adversary edition) the game doesn't always run at 60fps, when there are heavy or lots of particles, the game may run at 40fps, and ESPECIALLY in the Dawnguard Black-Soul gem map, the game fluctuates between 20-60 fps depending on where you're at. I just had to note this with my experience. Before this never used to happen, even on the FPS boosted mode, and even on the Xbox one too. This version has shown the most amount of frame dips I've seen.
The game is amazing! Really enjoying it with mods on the PS5! Bought it also for PC (like 7 years ago) in a steam sale but only played it 10 mins 😅 but now it's one of my favorite games. I really love the NPC which all have their own Life with work/eating/sleeping and the incredible atmospheric environment 😍
I’m slightly confused how Bethesda have packaged this up. If I’m playing the Special Edition on PS5/Series X, am I getting 60FPS without the need to mod and the reduced load times?
You have to play the Anniversay Edition, although i guess the update is automatic? Remeber to download the PS5 version, otherwise you wont get the faster load times.
Ps5 you need a mod but it doesn't mess with trophies while series X has natural 60fps since Microsoft own them and will likely never fix Sonys version now.
Yeah, but think about what you said, 10yrs old, and still yet a new port. For every person that paid 60bucks way back when or just now picking it up. Could you imagine taking your date out for dinner for 60bucks and 10yrs later, they keep getting better looks and performance wise, all because you spend 60bucks 10yrs ago. All good games should be doing this practice...
Unpopular opinion but I've been playing this in ps5 and I'm absolutely loving it. In such a dissapointing time for gaming it's nice to go back to a classic in 4k 60fps. Genuinely feels much more fun to play.
Tom well, as much as I don't enjoy this game anymore...stretching assets optimized for 1080p to 4k looks awful imo. But this game has great music which no game really has matched in 10 years. I guess it's better than barfing out half baked buggy games annually to milk a franchise. At least the elder scrolls is not that
I can't believe the difference between PS5 native and back compat. With the series x i haven't noticed that native games and back compat have massive differences in speed, probably because of how incredible the back compat work as been on the series consoles. None the less, so impressed by load speeds on PS5. Can't wait to get my hands on one. Loving my series X but want to complete the set. My only criticism here is that they should offer two modes to favour either resolution or fps. I would be happy to drop DRS on series X in favour of a fixed resolution like the PS5. I don't mind a few more drops in FPS as a result as PS5 users will be getting. It's an odd choice and i bet it's a budget and time constraint problem on their dev team. Seems odd to make a decision to not apply DRS to PS5 when the FPS drops are more apparent. Spending time effectively creating a new solution on Xbox consoles but neglecting PS5 is pretty cheap. I'm sure theres lots of PS5 users that would appreciate more solid performance. None the less, it sounds like it's not a massive issue, and i think it's time we get something new rather than loads of devs always working on skyrim
In the same spot that PS5 drops 49fps at native 4k, Series X drops to 53fps with dynamic 4k so there isn't much reason for DRS on PS5 since it's 60fps everywhere else with native 4k.
It's possible this is due to the BC difference. You can use some of the ps5 power now but most of the tools were only recently unlocked and that's why rocket league's update was later. Overwatch we never got one. It could just be that.
Off topic: DF; suggest do monthly videos with short updates about games which where reviewd by DF at launch and issues where found but later fixed by the developers. There are plenty examples of games which run bad at launch, get a critical review from DF but later problems where solved. But the bad review stays untouched on TH-cam. The majority of the gamers won't buy games at launch but wait until the game gets cheaper. At that time the DF review is not reliable anymore. Don't get me wrong, I love what DF is doing but when you adres issues please also share updates when issues are solved. I'm aware DF post small notes on social media about fixes but would it be great to have a monthly video about this, it's also more fair towards devs and potential buyers of the game who can choose for which platform they want to buy a certain game.
Very time consuming unfortunately - there's a balance between covering more games and covering games that should have got it right first time around. I think if DF was to do that, they should only do it minimum 6 months after a game releases; publishers and devs should not be allowed to get away with releasing unoptimised garbage when just 15 years ago, releasing a broken game meant you couldn't patch anything and your game simply died. Customers should stop being beta testers.
@@tobzdaman619 You do have a good point. And I totally agree. But the reality is that we are living in 2021 and not 2005 anymore. Game dev companies will not change there way because of our opinion. They need to make money so games will get rushed and get patched later.
It's Bethesda. In 6 months they will release an "Ultimate Anniversary Edition" or something and then THAT will become the "Ultimate way to play Skyrim". the only thing that's been beaten to death more is possibly GTAV.
I've never played the remastered version but might give this a go for the 60fps. I felt the lighting in the remaster was off. The original felt cold not much sun warmth.

XSX is the best version. Far more stable frame rate thanks to DRS with a much better selection of mods. Not surprisingly I guess considering Microsoft now own Bethesda.
With DRS XSX drops to 53fps, at native 4k PS5 drops to 47fps in the SAME area. Everywhere else PS5 is locked to 60fps with native 4k. Not sure how you think one stress area makes XSX "the best version". This is no different than Hitman 3 where XSX had native 4k but had one area where it drops frames while PS5 was locked at 60fps but PS5 was 1800p...except here, even with a lower resolution for XSX it still drops frames in the same area that PS5 does. Why were xbox fans bragging about Hitman 3 if you think one section dropping frames means the other system has *"the best version"* ? So, you're saying you think that Hitman 3 on PS5 was the best version all along now? Or did you forget about that?
As a Series X owner, the dynamic res was the absolute best news. Both boost and the 60 fps mod dropped too much in dense forests and other places and made the experience choppy and annoying. And it also created tree branch flickering.

The FPS Boost Skyrim Version is native 4k 60 FPS and its pretty stable. From the cloud or by using a memory stick
So if I don't have Internet I don't get access to the creation content even if I got the upgrade?
I think they got rid of the upgrade message after the new patch, cuz I don’t see it on my series s and I only got anniversary on my ps5.
@@pulseofme6884 ,
Uh, HOW would you get the upgrade if you don't have an Internet connection?

Aw shaddap. The game never looked or ran better on console.
@@SLX25 Yes it did, on PS5 before the AE update you could use Wrighton's 60fps mod to get THE SAME performance as demonstrated by DF,
in addition there were mods that enhanced FOV scale and detail level LOD also by Wrighton but those are now nonfunctional which for me meant that Bethesda's update broke my game because the mods were suddenly no longer compatible and my save game was reliant on them resulting in giant holes in the world and other weirdness forcing a new game.

I don't think Bethesda really put that much time into this so I don't think it's a budget or time constraint they just didn't want to or care to.
It's "exceptional" that a 10-year old game drops to 50 fps? Strange choice of words.

Pretty much.
Well not true runs not stable on ps5 and if you sant mods you play on pc lol 😂🤣

I have it on PS4. There are no performance or graphics improvements over the Special Edition. Just lots and lots of official modded content including new armors, weapons, homes, followers and quests. Lots and lots of new quests.
Great video brake down 🙏
I know nothing about the next-gen version, but this is a great game even on Switch. I’m having a blast!
You guys need to test Windhelm on the PS5 the fps tanks hard unfortunatly.. Hope they patch it but I somehow doubt it :(
@@yourmommasuqsdik918 these consoles have 8 core 3,5ghz ryzen cpu´s with 10 - 12 tf gpu power....this game should run with 4k/120fps on these consoles but this game is horrible optimised with massive engine bottlenecks and still full with tons of bugs from ten years ago...Bethesda is a joke in this regard
@@yourmommasuqsdik918 so why can i play tons of other games on these consoles that look 100x times better than Skyrim with up to 4k and locked 60fps or even 120fps in multiplayer games on these machines but not a old game like skyrim? it´s 100% bethesda´s fault
@@yourmommasuqsdik918 i mean you can play old games like the Witcher 2 on Xbox with a locked 60fps at 4k or tons of other old games with locked framerates on Xbox but Skyrim has massive problems...sounds like poor work from the devs to me also they have 10 year old bugs in this game which got fixed by fan mods on pc ages ago....so sorry but these devs are just lazy and here for the money and has nothing to do with how powerful these consoles are
@@yourmommasuqsdik918 it´s just poor optimization...look at Battlefield 2042 which runs even with a 3090 only around at 70 - 100 fps when it should be easy around 120 - 150 fps on medium to high settings...does it mean the 3090 isn´t as powerful as we thought? no the game suffers from bad optimization at the moment
Not accurate. The PS5 version drops less in areas with a lots of transparency effects like fog and snow storms than it did before with the mod.
0:16 *takes one look at the visuals. Yeah I can believe it.
Dynamic resolution on such an old game?
Thanks for the video! Enjoyed watching it! I will get Skyrim for my XSX eventually, was waiting for a sale but this Black Friday weekend it wasn’t there, at least not for the Belgium Xbox Store. Got some other amazing deals though for Metro, Mass Effect, Gears of War, Halo and much more.
Wtf
I love my Series X but I'm sick of all these Skyrim reboots. I played from launch on 360. I have 3 accounts with 500 plus hours. We need Elder Scrolls 6. Not remakes.
Elder scrolls 6 is officially in early development
Remastered isn't a remake.
@@flaurocontino it will still have higher fidelity shadows and baked lighting and higher quality in-game models and stuff. All to prepare for the 4090s.
500 hours isn't much. You've barely scratched the surface
@@flaurocontino Point is the games been played to death and relaunched a million times. Nice try 🤡
ME: i want to play Skyrim anniversary edition.
Bethesda: which one of all the anniversary editions?
It doesn't matter what year it is. There's a new version of Skyrim out there.
Are the in-game menus in 60 fps as well ? or they still remain at 30 fps as before the Anniversary upgrade ? It used to give me head aches when inspecting items, especially because of those menu sliding animations ...
Wonder what the next edition of Skyrim will be called
Skyrimming
Skyrim: Buy It Again, Dumbass. Edition.
Skyrim….retirement party edition.
Revolutionary edition
Hype to see if there's any real update (maybe use of DualSense?)
Haha no
@@YDINO69 then no upgrade then.
Bethesda is too lazy to actually look into that, sadly lol Missed opportunity with bow draw trigger resistance or something.
Daddy Phil be like “no Dualsense goodness for you.”
@@SkankHunt007 it’s not about being too lazy I’m sure it’s more along the lines of why would they spend time developing a feature for a competing platform. Total waste of time and money. They don’t need to give people any reason to buy it on ps5 instead of Xbox/pc.
“I swear we will remaster it only 10 more times”-Bethesda
"And we will keep buying it only 10 more times" - gamers
Any technical reason the ps5 does not use DRS?
Doesn’t need it.
No, the devs were just lazy, the PS5 has terrible performance at times.
I heard rumor Betseda is remastering the remaster of the remastered complete remaster for PS6
Lmaooooo
Its the only version PS will get from now on.
Skyrim remasters
Something wrong with the performance in Windhelm, I have to say. I'd be interested if it's better on Xbox than on PS5, what with the scaling.
I didn't see any noticable dips myself, but I do concur that on PS5 it's not that good in that area.
doubt thered be much difference, drs helps in gpu heavy areas, windhelm certainly isnt one
The scaling didn't help the Series X with alpha effects-heavy scenes with dragons where the framerate is the same as PS5, so I doubt that there's much of any difference. The lower bound for the DRS seems to be fairly close to 4K. It's just there for minor hiccups.
the only thing wrong with Windhelm for me, is what's always been wrong with Windhelm since the start and that's not being able to complete the 'Blood on the Ice' mission lol
Sad that it doesn't feature any haptic feedback or adaptive trigger support for DualSense on PS5. I probably would have actually bought the game again for that.
Hopefully the VR version will get the upgrade when the next headset is available. I find it unlikely but that would definitely be my preferred way to play. Having free movement and the ability to use my hands in VR would be incredible!
i have some bad news about Skyrim on PSVR2... 😢
Ah shit, here we go again...
Great video!
Did they fix the sound bug with the multichannel audio that was present on PS4?
We all joke about how many times Skyrim has been re-released, but I wish more games enjoyed this kind of long life.
What about games that got remade from the ground up? Like Demon's Souls or Shadow of the Colossus? I'd take that over the Skyrim treatment any day.
Glad I have the PC version with mods, and yes, mods finally work again. Bethesda went full you know what and broke mods.
Man on Xbox mods were considered lately broken for a couple of weeks but it’s seems to be sorted out. I wasn’t even mad because it was so expected from Bethesda.
Thankfully the VR version wasn't touched... yet.
I hope they leave it alone.
So, much when Bethesda said the Anniversary Edition for next gen will be sporting "enhanced graphics", that was a straight up lie?
Not necessarily, the SX got a res bump to 1440p. and the both series consoles and the PS5 got native 60 FPS. Yes it was the very least they could do but technically can still can hold up in the court of law as much as "it just works" did.. Lol
I'm liking the detail of analysis
hearing the music gives me the chill.
There is also a storage advantage, the game is around 33Gb on PS4 and 15Gb on PS5
DF doesn't like to talk about this specific PS5 advantage.
