I honestly hoped that we'll see more of checkerboarding on the machine but it seems that it is just too much work to implement this in games and devs are happy with pared back resolution without any upscaler. XSS is potentially able to use the latest FidelityFX Super Resolution, maybe we'll see some of that at least in 1st party titles.
Interesting, IGN's breakdown had the series x load times less then half a second more then PS5's not double. In my personal use it has also been super quick, def not 8 seconds as they experienced. @@imt558delux The whole point of it is to reduce resolution in areas you don't notice. For example when you're playing Doom your eyes are glued to the area around the gun, the middle of the screen. Locked 60fps + RT is a fine mode for a single-player experience. 120hz + reduced RT is a perk, but it's not dramatically upticking the player's input response in single-player to a point that's worth compromising. In multiplayer? Certainly 120hz mode on new gen console brings (best case) advantages to competitive MP, if net connection quality is a non-issue.

So, I don't get it. With last gen and now current gen consoles, why do many games not have anisotropic filtering? It can't be a raw horsepower thing since from what I'm aware, it doesn't affect performance on PC that much.
My understanding is that on pc it isn’t an issue due to the gpu having dedicated memory but on console the memory is shared by gpu and cpu so anisotropic filtering can use up a lot of bandwidth. I’m just repeating something I saw someone else post on a different video though so I might be wrong.

Digital foundry needs to have Input lag (not just frame time) as one of its primary tests and comparisons. It doesn't matter if a game is 1900p with dips to 1840p at times. The resolution of the human eye is just too high.
This right here is true game optimization. The braindead console fanboys don’t realize that just because a game runs better on one console, it doesn’t mean the console is weaker than the other. I know the IW engine made by infinity ward and trayarch is a modified version on ID Tech 3 and has been used even today just with upgrades so who knows, PlayStation still has access to the unreal engine which is just as good if not better than ID Tech 7.
@@iOSGaming14 currently I'd seems much better for optimization for 60fps fps games
@@iOSGaming14 true, it could always be outsourced, but that decision is now solely Xbox’s as they have ownership; I think it’s very possible thought that another id tech game will be on PS5; as for UE5, there’s already at least 4 confirmed Unreal engine 5 exclusive games coming for Series X, and Zero for PS5; Aside from days gone (which is now, “Gone”) I don’t think any other PS studios even used Unreal engine, but yeah there’s always that

If those ID tech titles don’t come to my PS5 I always have my gaming laptop and gaming pc which both are faster than the series x admitted I payed premium for the laptop and parts to build my pc but it’s something I enjoy. People can argue what they want but owning a decent PC/Gaming Laptop, PS5 and the Nintendo switch is all you need. No use for Xbox this gen, same as the last. That last good console that the Xbox has made was the 360 regardless of the red ring of death. Game pass accounts for more users in PC than the Xbox and the sales between both series x and ps5 are in the Sony’s favour again more consoles sell more software sold the more money is made. Take Microsoft’s lead in the pc space and have Xbox its own thing and it would be third place constantly! Another great video. And yes on a 1080p display (like the one I have) the softness is not as noticeable as mentioned in the video . The 120fps mode is a total blast and must be experienced to be believed. I really hope ID are rebooting Quake as rumored. Quake was one of the first games I ever played on a PC (in mighty 640x480) and I trust ID to knock it out of the park gameplay and performance wise !

So yeah, even though we all know what XSS is, how games look on 4K screens still matters to people. I honestly hoped that we'll see more of checkerboarding on the machine but it seems that it is just too much work to implement this in games and devs are happy with pared back resolution without any upscaler. It's definitely something that works really well with a shooter or racing game but not so much with a strategy game for example where the game is much more slower paced and you're looking allover the screen at different things. Enjoy you close to 1080p graphics 😂😂😂.
@@uchinster8 fanboy 🤮🤮🤮
The 120fps was so smooth, I can no longer go back to play this at 60fps anymore!
@H N who gives a shit. I only can focus on one or two games. So I don't give a fuck about exclusive. Apparently stuck on call of duty warzone and assassin's creed Valhalla. If we had all the PlayStation exclusives, it wouldn't matter because I can only play 2 games. Takes me a whole year to finish games like assassin's creed
@@MikeAruba69 so true me too XD
Watching this video on my TV, sat on the sofa at the other end of the room, I could immediately see the resolution bump as soon as the “balanced” footage started playing. And I’m an old man with dodgy eyesight! I think I get why you guys play down resolution as “not a big deal” and I agree that it’s not very interesting from a technical perspective, but there’s just no denying that even now with 4K televisions it is still the single most important factor in image quality, and that’s not changing any time soon. The resolution of the human eye is just too high.
Id tech 7 is a beast. Can't wait to see their first next gen only game.
FTFY. 'Can't wait to see their first next-gen only Microsoft ecosystem game.'
This right here is true game optimization. The braindead console fanboys don’t realize that just because a game runs better on one console, it doesn’t mean the console is weaker than the other. If the specs on both consoles are nearly identical, then it simply comes down to game optimization, and that’s down to the developer’s familiarity with the console, not the console itself.
They did a great job with all versions of this game.
I love Xbox Smart delivery system ❤❤
Now playstation fans starting to understand that it's not a gimmick.
@@jayevans20 As a PC gamer I'm sure Sony will copy Microsoft and implement something similar this generation. The console makers always copy each other LMFAO
@@Kingtoby1981 name one thing Xbox copied?
@@taurussho86 hmm using blu tooth as your connection, the general controller design (the og dualshock has been the controller standard since it came out), motion controls (though thankfully they dropped kinect). That's just off the top of my head, I'm sure there's plenty more if you dig into it. Sony obviously copied a ton from Microsoft (using pc architecture, built in hard drive, online services, etc) as well it's what they do.
@@mattj2692 the controller standard is Xbox design. It has been superior since 360. Even PS Pro controllers emulate Xbox's.
Look at PS5 controller now. Aesthetics are very similar.
Bluetooth is only used to connect to phones and PC. I feel very sorry if you think PS way of using Bluetooth to connect to the console is superior to Xbox Wireless protocol.
Xbox wireless protocol has a bigger bandwidth and lower latency.
I can on and on how PS has copied. From integrating internet, GUI, Achievement system, etc.
Thank you for separating PC from consoles in these videos 👍
I wanted a more deeper look of PC vs consoles, but only looked at visuals. Not fps and such.
Freaking awesome review guys again!!
I don't understand why console games always skimp on AF.
Cheapest setting to max, and invaluable for making titles look right. How the hell are we running ratnest AF here?
They all look great! I must say Game Pass wins the day here with the smart delivery.
Potentially the entire generation..
Game pass and smart delivery are 2 different things
@@chrisbrown113096 Big W either way
@@PantherCrane yeah I enjoy both , saw the update was out , booted up series x and already had the next gen update and was on the same exact spot I played a couple weeks ago
@@chrisbrown113096 which is why I mentioned them separately. The combination of the two is a win.
It’s funny, cuz I never thought this looked blurry at all. Even on last gen.
It depends on the size of the TV you own.
Larger TVS show up the differences
@@mrrglass3407 I got a 65” Sony

Jonh Lineman at 9:20 calling iD software a third party
I know right?
He didn't, he called Doom a third party game which it is/was when it was released.
So two days ago I got my PS5, and this is just beautiful. This game is SO MUCH FUN!💟
