I've been recommended the game Sleeping Gods but haven't purchased it yet. Came here through another of your videos talking about Casting Shadows which I had delivered yesterday. Will give it a shot and see if I like or if it's just a nice box to showcase in my bookshelf ;)
Thank you so much for checking out my videos :) please let me know your thoughts on Casting Shadows when you get it played. While I didn't fully enjoy Casting Shadows, Sleeping Gods on the other hand was deadset incredible. I absolutely loved pretty much everything about that game. Now I'm like a kid at Xmas excited waiting for its sequel Distant Skies!
In no particular order, I particularly enjoy the following solo: Lost Ruins of Arnak, Rococo Deluxe, Obsession, Keep the Heroes Out, Oak, Raiders of Scythia, Deep Rock Galactic, Massive Darkness 2, and Abomination. I have several other solo playable games, including a couple campaign games that I just haven't gotten to the table yet. I'm also expecting Final Girl soon, so that's probably going to end up on my favorites.
I enjoyed Lost Ruins of Arnak solo, would be a great pick for a medium weight euro category. Rococo is so beautiful and again a fun choice, I kinda wish I put that on my list now. I last played it about 9 months ago, so definitely due playing it again real soon.
I'm definitely going to try Flamme Rouge solo some time this month and hope it's fun like you said. I've only played this game once and it was just me and my son and we had really high hopes for this game and we were a little disappointed in it. But I'm definitely going to try it solo. Thanks!
What makes this fun is being able to carry over exhaustion into the next race, while the opponents start fresh every race. I normally shorten the tracks a little and play 3 different tracks. I'm also a big geek and right down the results of each 'Tour de Hoges' and track how well the opponents do. Lol actually now I read all this perhaps I am crazy and need a life 🤪
Actually I forgot one bit, while you keep your exhaustion between races - take out one exhaustion card per position you end up. So if you finish the first race in 3rd, then take out 3 exhaustion cards of your deck for the next race. But overall just have fun and find what works best for you and tweak it accordingly. Please let me know how you go with it 👍
My favorite current solo games are Final Girl, Nemo's War, and Warp's Edge. :-) All fantastic games... and also originally all designed for solo play. Another one I always enjoy is Robinson Crusoe, but I am also happy playing that one with a friend or two. :-) An all-time favorite of mine, however I get to play it. heh
So many votes for Warps Edge and Final Girl and it makes sense as they are designed to be purely solo. Most other games it's an add on but these particular games it's the sole concept of the game. I think a top 10 for pure solo only games would be a great video but unfortunately I just don't have these in my collection. Now Robinson Crusoe I do have and you are right it's a classic. The problem I have is it's such a rules heavy game that each time I have to re-read a novel to refresh the game. I need to play it more regularly I reckon
Just came across your channel via this video. Some great recommendations I have not see anywhere else. Glad to find a fellow Aussie gaming channel. Nice one, new subbie.
I love this thank you so much. I think it's great to have different opinions because there are so many wonderful games out there for people to enjoy. I'm really glad you enjoyed the video and super appreciate the comment. Feel free to check out my top 10 games for beginners vid (should be my 2nd latest video) in which I'm giving away 3 games to Aus and NZ subscribers. I'm literally drawing this tomorrow night if you want to enter.
It's very hard for me to get games, partly because I don't have much money to throw and because there is nowhere to buy, so I became a boardgame encyclopedia by watching God knows how many hours of youtube. Then one day I see a board game in one of the shops I pass by daily. Under falling skies? 30$? Never heard of it, cheap enough to buy anyway. 2 days later and I'm 13 plays in and finished the campaign, it's so simple yet so complicated and when you crank up the difficulty it becomes a real brain burner.
I really am lucky to have all these games but it's not about the size, it's about what they mean to you. Having a single game like that in which you love and played heaps is just as special. It's great to have you apart of this amazing hobby of ours
Nice vid! Some of my favorites to solo are The Loop, Steampunk Rally, Factory Funner, Viticulture, K2, MicroMacro Crime City, and my #1 - 7th Continent.
7th Continent would be an awesome choice for that story driven campaign game solo choice. I think these types of games are better solo as it's really hard to find a games group who can play it regularly, so much easier playing by yourself
I have half the games you listed. My fav right now is 3 Sisters, fleet dice game, cascadia, SOS Titanic, AGricola, Under falling skies, and button shy stuff. I want Warps edge to be up there but my cats love the pieces too much for me to play it without knowing they are sleeping and I'll get it packed up before they wake. I want final girl to be at the top and maybe it will someday but right now I can't get it setup, played, and packed up quick enough to play often since I don't have the table space to leave it out and the same for Everdell. Getting the big box for Everdell and wingspan make them easier to find all the expansions but bringing those big boxes to the table and unpacking them takes more space, seems like more of a chore, and they get to the table less than before I had the boxes!
This is such a great comment. I agree with you so much, since I got the Everdell big box I really don't play it anywhere near as much. Makes me scared to get the Wingspan big box for this reason. Vindication I'm playing regularly but only because it's my fave game currently, but that box is seriously overwhelming. Anyway mate awesome list of games, I need to try SOS Titanic one day!
Thanks heaps for the comment. I play solo against a bot with story mode. You can play without story mode but honestly think the story mode is a lot more immersive. The bot is super simple and uses a handful of cards. Hope that helps
Dwellings of Eldervale, Friday, Wingspan and Everdale are in high rotation to my table. Will you be getting Adromeda's Edge? I am super excited for next year arrival.
Heya Mark, sounds we have very similar tastes in games, all great choices! So here's the thing with Andromedas Edge, I was crazy looking forward to the Gamefound launch but I wasn't pulled in by the campaign. It's weird because I'm the world's biggest Dwellings fan but I think the space theme just didn't excite me. But in saying all that, I will probably still pick it up in retail eventually just because Luke Laurie designed it so I know it will still be a great design. I really hope I don't regret the decision to pass up on the Deluxe version
@@BangersProject It was a miracle that my wife found a copy of Dwellings at a decent price for Christmas. I am patiently waiting for the 3rd printing so I can get all the miniatures. I know it doesn't change the game play but that's one of the things that initially attracted me. I am excited that AE will have several commanders to choose from the control the AI. I can win against the ghost most if the time. I like that there will be different difficulty levels. I built the largest tableau ever yesterday but they weren't so much for regrouping. I am thrilled to see the large chain of moduels being fired off on the regroup phase of AE. Did you see that Tim's wolfpack is in the AE now?🤯🤯 You do still have hours left. I am just overly excited and loving all the new things that Dwellings doesn't have.
@Mark Dandridge that is all truly awesome stuff about AE and i can see why you are so excited. Haha I think you nearly convinced me on it. I think Luke Laurie should hire you for marketing 😁 So I don't have the minis either for Dwellings, I also have big regrets about this and been considering trying to get that upgrade pack. I did recently get the the dwellings neoprene mat so pretty stoked I have that now for my next game
@@BangersProject I did find both Mercenaries at a decent price. They can drastically change the game. I understand they will offer the playmat on the 3rd printing. You have just about 6 hours left to get AE. I am backer #365 They announced yesterday that more raiders are being added with translucent parts so they will float on the board.🚀🚀🚀
That's a couple of votes for Final Girl now, I really must try and get my hands on it one day 👍 Also any Chip Theory game is a great choice but Hoplomachus is supposed to be one of the best solo experiences
This is by far and away my favourite comment, it means a lot to me that people enjoyed this video. I love my games and love sharing that passion and making these videos as a fun hobby
Great solo list! I must look into Vindication and Merchants Cove. I Love: Raiders of Scythia, Troyes Dice, Cape May, and Roll Player with Monsters and Minions.
Some great solo games in there. Just received Vindication big box myself, but have only played once so far (not solo). Totally obsessed with Aeon Trespass: Odyssey though at the moment. It hasn't left the table since I received it last year, and I'm only about halfway through so far.
Oh nice do you think I would enjoy Aeon Tresspass Odyssey? What other games is it similar too? Also definitely let me know your thoughts on Vindication solo if you get to play it. So much game inside of that massive box 😁
@@BangersProject It's heavy, and like Kingdom Death Monster, but without the somewhat questionable theme. I'd always liked the concept of a boss battler, but KDM theme didn't sit comfortably with me. But it's actually my first boss battler as well (other than trying KDM in TTS a couple of times). Hopefully I'll get around to trying Vindication solo soon... Also looking forward to Moonrakers making it's way to me in Tassie over the next few weeks
@Richard yeah I'm not sold on KDM either but it has a loyal following like pretty much no other game. Aeon has a more palatable theme by far so perhaps one day I will get to try it. I was supposed to play Moonrakers a couple of weeks back in my games group but had to babysit so missed out 😭 They said it was pretty decent
@@odgregg yeah I remember watching Zee say that and thought the same thing that I must try it. I saw the recent reprint and was pretty tempted, I think I will pick up the new version when it's available at my FLGS
Best timing Hoges, I'm solo parenting for a week, so I have a chance to do some solo gaming. Thanks for Sleeping Gods reminder.. did you consider Maracaibo?
I played Maracaibo about 3 times solo and it was pretty solid. It's nice that you add tiles to the board and cards/characters as you play, so the game does feel like it's growing the more you play. But for me while I enjoyed it, it wasn't enough variety to keep it after those few plays so ended up selling it. In hindsight I should have kept it so I could have checked out the expansion. Enjoy the solo parenting week and let me know what you play 👍
@@BangersProject Just played my first game this morning, definitely an amazing game, and I'm excited to hopefully upload some videos about it, and possibly create a buzz around it
100% this, while I enjoy the bigger heavier games I find I play the likes of Tiny Towns and Calico a lot more because they are just easier to setup and quicker to play. Quite often with 3 kids in the house I don't get heaps of spare hours to pull out a Lacerda to play by myself, so much easier to grab the smaller box games
