    I see everything wrong that I did when we had our lab puppy many years ago. She was a biter and that’s my biggest concern with getting a new puppy because I watch my grandchildren. I feel more confident by watching how consistent you are with the puppy and realize that it’s a process that I can win by establishing myself as her pack leader. Thanks!

      Thank you Suzie, two things if you do not mind. 1. You have to be the leader for your grandchildren. That means, do not let your grandchildren consequence your puppy, you do it. 2. Set it up and proof it! Be ready to intercede with the play biting moments. If he bites, No and consequence. If he does not, praise the heck out of him! Good luck!

    I just found your video and am so appreciative that I did. It's Monday and we picked up our 8 week old Saint Bernard puppy on Saturday. She is starting to play bite at our hands, pant legs, and plants (when outside). This technique makes a lot of sense to me and have had each of my family members watch this video so we can all be consistent with how we respond to her unwanted play biting. I was feeling defeated until watching this, and am feeling empowered and confident we can stop unwanted behaviors and certainly start praising more often for the good ones. Thank you!

    Thank you Jim for this amazing video. This is the best video I have seen on this topic and it works for dogs that are bigger, higher energy and could become bad biters too. I am starting to implement this on my #gsp #boardercollie pup that is 87 days old. Your videos are in my library and I can’t wait to share it with my family. Thank you once again. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

    You said no later than 10 weeks of age. (I just found you today).
    We're about to bring home a 7 month old Doodle from the humane society. He had been a stray. Many unknowns right now regarding his behavior. If he shows that biting tendency, how do we address it at this age?

    Great video, very helpful. How would you combat the biting for a 4-5 month old puppy. Thanks

    • @jim1968
      @jim1968 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Ashley! I would try to do the same method as long as you are physically able to do this. Physical touch, both proper praise and consequence as discussed in my videos, is all about dog communication within the pack.

  • @taylorhare2124

    Late into the game seeing this video unfortunately. We have a 5 and a half month goldendoodle puppy who has been biting us to get our attention. You mentioned in the video to start this technique no later than 10 weeks, is there anything you could recommend for us with her being so far past that age? Thank you in advance!

    • @JimHodgesDogTraining
      @JimHodgesDogTraining  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hi Taylor, it is still not too late to try these things if you are physically able. Remember, you have to be consistent with your actions in the moment it happens. Provide at least 20x more praise than consequence and reward/praise calm behavior so your pup has a goal. At the very least, find a dog trainer that understands measured touch in their obedience. praise and consequence. Obedience is a wonderful way to teach our puppy/dog about behaviors we do not want as well. Good luck!

    We just picked up a 5 mo old Brittany rescue. Mistreated in a crate, so that is not an option.
    We put him in a large playpen last night and he whined horribly. Any suggestions?

    • @JimHodgesDogTraining
      @JimHodgesDogTraining  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is hard Kathe, I am of the mind that you have to continue with the crate if possible. I recommend feeding and watering her in the crate (open door in the beginning), placing the crate in a public area (where you are) and letting her spend some time in the crate when you are with her. At some point in time, she may have to spend extended time in the crate do you to life issues with you or her or even at the vet. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you Jim
