The goal of the first chapter is to finish with 8+ living logs, a telelocator staff, and gears in 4-5 days. Because the game uses rogue-like world gen, there are a number of possible combinations that you might encounter that your not seeing. The starting resources I chose reflect the resource maximums you might need to complete the first chapter in 4-5 days given what you might encounter. Basically, you don't want to have to stop or go out of your way later on to gather resources if your being chased by a terrorbeak. So long as I can get the first chapter done in 4-5 days, I get a shot at chapters 2-5. Since chapters 2-5 can range from 3/4 day to 3 days based on world gen and telelocator staff RNG, it's simply better to go for more attempts at chapters 2-5 with a decent chapter 1 than few(er) attempts at chapters 2-5 with a great chapter 1.
