The quality and level of interplay between Vinnie and the soloists is something only decades of playing together can produce. That's some special stuff going on for sure.
Count in 10/8 and everything falls in place. It's quite easy if you've jammed for a lifetime. Since the sacrosanct nature of the time cycle needs to be respected.
They rarely play together, Vinnie was and is spread very thin.
Vinnie never ceases to amaze me wow!!!!!
Yesss. Even, if you were taking everything odd out. The sound, the subtle little extras, phrasing etc. Such a joy to listen.
Neils Bass solo after the tearing it UP solo of Michael Landau........i listened to the drummers magazine DVD of Their performance a 1000 times probably . and now after so very long not listening to it , Neil Stubenhaus' solo is and was burned in my memory, every note of it!
There are no Pyrotechs crazy Licks , but a story line, a composition within this song. Every note has weight. its perfect , the Genius of Stubenhaus
Those intro hi-hats still get me 🔥
Vinnie is sensational! Jeff's version with James Newton Howard & Friends is so grooveful and clean.
Also watching this for the first time back in the day being a huge Steely Dan fan, it sent shivers down my spine to hear the Black Friday quote around 8:07
The Jeff / Vinnie connection floored me.
I always wanted Vinne to play with Toto after Jeff passed. They're both in my #1 favorite spot.
One of my favourite tunes off the Tribute to Jeff cd.
Thank you gentlemen.
Look at the way he pumps his shoulder into that cymbal at 3 mins, who else does it like that.
Wow. All such great players!
Only few mortals can survive those off-rhythm bits. I had to work on it, but kinda kept going..then by god they’re all right there, back in that lovely groove. Vin is just powerfully great….and also accurate👌👌
tHAT SNARE SOUNDS AMAZING!
Something about the way he plays the ride @ 5:06 makes me wish he never left Zildjian. 😎
Zildjians or Paiste, forget It ....He sounds amazing even playing trash cans 😉
Vinnie can hear colour and see music.
I know you were waiting for all the thumbs up responses to your comment, so I just gave you one so you wouldn't feel bad.
Funny you should say that, Elvin Jones actually could.
best of best live session... wow.. amazing..god
This is so sick 🔥🔥🔥
Amazing
what happened at 4:39... I can't even comprehend... my god... amazing... and 5:02... Vinnie is incredible
That’s beat displacement. An example is take a straight Simple 4/4 rock beat. Snare on 2 & 4, kick 1 & 3, HH on 8th notes. Count quarter notes.
Then move everything over ONE SIXTEENTH NOTE. Keep all the same sticking, keep counting the original quarter notes. Then move everything back. He’s doing same thing here with a shuffle beat. Basically just turning the beat upside down or around
The saving Grace for me is physically tapping the tempo and listing to the bass player’s line which is consistent. That inner clock is important. 😎
See at 6:35 -6:45 if you’re not kinda tapping the tempo already it would be easy to get lost…but a confident inner clock is beautiful…and when you catch them back at the same tempo all along, it makes you smile. 😃
That first little solo break, what a groove! Damn.
Peak Vinnie 🔥🔥
Professionals at their best!
A lot of movement in this piece, excellent!
Love the Black Friday quote at the end!
Stubenhaus in the house!
Very nice.
Insane
Stubenhouse!!
Pffff!! Que barbarosss! 😮😗👌🏿🎶💥
Michael & vinnie AWE
That drum break slaps.
This is the standard ‘Rush’ aspired to …
I rather think of Dixie Dregs
Its the famous riff of a killer Toto tune.
on the run by toto...
But david garfield wrote the song I think. Could be the reason why there is no official release of that song by Toto.
Paich wrote it.
@@jordykloos9665 They tried to make a studio version but didn't like it.
on the run!
🥁🎸🎹🔥🔥🔥🥁🔥👌🏼
OMG, Vinnie
Let’s face it, Vinny Is bad ass!!!!
Yeah well I mean…,Vinnie never disappoints Does he?…. No never! He’ll go down to the annals of Drum history of music history with the likes of Buddy Rich And others like that etc.
In my never to be so humble opinion that is! Let me qualify that!
Whoa..
the Great Vinnie
Uncle Vinnie stirring the soup😉👍👍😎😎
Vinnie musy have logged a million tunes upstairs.
At 0:42, I thought they're going to play „On the Run” by Toto. :)
at 6:41- 43, if you've heard the bootleg audio of this, the crowd went wild over that.. 🤩 you barely hear it here..
WHHHHHHHHHHHH
That keyboard solo gives me a hige biner
Thought they were gonna play Black Friday lol
They certainly did one of the riffs at 8:14
Can anyone tell me what snare he's using pls. Such a cool sound
There are different types and sizes of piccolo snares, my guess is he is using a mid piccolo plus he tightens the snare even more.
I think its a 14x5 Gretsch COB.
It's about VINNIE TOUCH
He even play trash cans and Sound the same 😉😎
stubenhaus is sooooo underrated!
No he isn't, not at all.
@@jonasandezekiel1109 Elaborate
@@Malc222 because anyone that knows anything about music knows he's fucking amazing. He is in no way underrated.
Everything amazing, this could be said again and again, but that snare sound ... Boooo.. The best.
The intro part sounds a like an old Toto-song, don't remember which one...
its on the run
And also Black Friday by Steely Dan 🤷🏻♂️😅
@@denzz8687 Indeed!
Isn't the main riff in this song the same one in Toto's On The Run?
Started out as a track on the James Newton Howard & Friends album, E-Minor Shuffle", which I'm guessing later evolved into On The Run. That came out on the Toto XX record, then got a couple more full releases, one on Toto's 35th anniversary live album as a medley with Goodbye Elenore, then on the Live in Montreux release, which is where the Toto XX recording came from.
@@justinhavu I had no clue about the original version. Thanks!
4:42 Is that a screwup or just way over my head?
It's not a screwup
Just crazy displacement!
It’s two consecutive bars of 4/4 +2/4.
Fusion guys are crazy good but I can only handle it in small doses.....
It starts to sound like everyone is trying to out masturbate each other....
hi ken, it sounds a bit odd to me too.... but remember: screwing up sometimes is still part of the game, even for the greats... i have seen it quite a few times with others too.
Is Vinnie Colaiuta playing Zildijan again?
No this is from 20yrs ago. Paiste now
He is playing Meinl now.
@@krioni86sa Nope
Brutally loud, cold, amazingly great players but I’m not grooved or carried
Not that I'm sorry for Dave Weckle, but...
wrong spelling....W E C K L that's it.....NO E at end
Vinnie is more dangerous than Dave. Weckl is more clinical. Both are bloody amazing .
The GOAT! but I cant stand the drum sound and the coated heads. Very dead sounding
