The guy is just absolutely impeccable. He’s so gifted-technically, but he’s sooo sooo musical and tasteful. He’s just a boss. The only thing better than his playing, is his shirt selection. The man’s wardrobe game is on point.
When was the last time you saw Steve Smith and it wasn't mind blowing? For me about 30 yrs ago. Probably I was just too young to realize my mind was blown. Amazing every time!
WOOOOOWWWWW!!!! Ok 2 things, Chucks ARE the best shoes for drumming! And watching a master with as much class, finesse, AND innovation as Steve makes me EXTREMELY proud to be a musician, who's favorite instrument is... THE TRAPSET!!!!!!!!!!!
although he is very good and maybe even exceptional, his solo sound like a practice session, there is no train of thought just a string of practiced routines
for the young people learning how to play the drums, STEVE SMITH IS AN EXCELLENT ROLE MODEL !!!!!!!!!!!!

hehe
Glad I'm not the only one who thinks he's the best dressed drummer.
nawww thats not a gift! Thats just plain ole hard work!
The technique that Steve Smith demonstrates in this particular piece is just out of this world... Props to the others musicians as well!
What a beautifully constructed solo - you could follow the melody all the way through it! A perfect marriage of technique, taste and musicianship.
F C Burgner yeah after I read this I went back and listened

He channelled Louis Bellson, Ginger Baker and John Bonham in that solo......Just perfect!!

¡ONE OF A KIND. STYLE, FEEL, TOUCH, DRUMS OF PASSION!!!

Steve added a little John Bonham "Rock & Roll" finale there. Awesome!
I noticed that too. What a "cool" factor!
Oh shit, I missed that.
I really don't get those 18 thumbs down. Who would dislike this?
Unfassbar gut! Und dann der Spaß an der Musik ... Danke, Jungs!!!!!!! :-)
Makes everything look so easy. Touch and feel are the o/s. Brilliant.
Man oh man how I enjoyed this on Sunday Morning, Fathers Day 2018....... Thanks Steve, Zildjian, Sonor, and Tony and Vinny!!!
He doesn't need journey . keep moving forward . Great band .
I really loved this composition and arrangement! This is like the highest level of musicianship on the planet!
On of the very greats !!! .. come on Steve !!!
Those flams between the snare drum and feet were crazy. Sounded very cool my favorite part. Never heard that before. Cool!
Thank you for your comment, I just wrote a similar post at another solo of him. It left me speechless to hear bass drum flams!! Incredible.
Thank you Steve Smith. In awe!
A complete masterclass right there ! awesome ! thanks for posting ! Cheers from brazil !
Love those slick flams nice and quick.
Steve Smith uno de los mejores de todos los tiempos !!!
HELL YEAH! Bebop... nothing like it. Everyone's grooving and in the pocket too...
Steve Smith and Zildjian .. what a pair
One of the best ever.
We all know Steve Smith was a pirate in a past life !

We all know Roy Wooten was a drummer in a past life !
Atuação fenomenal de Steve Smith!!!
Acho que foi a melhor de todas que já vi até hoje!!!
😱🙏🎉🥁🎶✨🎧
Fantastic band.. Steve, unlike some of his peers, has still got it in spades..
That one handed roll at about 7:04 had my tongue on the floor. Jeezuz, when did Steve Smith get so fucking good?
Fantastic
marvelous as always
3:13 there's just something so tasteful about this moment
Yes...all the way to 3:26.... Beautiful!
It is Tony Monaco on a Hammond B3.....what more do you need to know? The BEST!
Absolutely remarkable!
Amazing musicians!!!
Steve "Flam" Smith
Rather see Steve with this group than Journey these days.
sin duda alguna uno de los más grandes de la historia!
Simplemente impresionante!!!
drums are tuned perfectly ...
Go Steve Smith & the Groove! 🎶
love it!!
correction on my last post.. there are a very SMALL number truly great drummers.. this guy is right at the top.. he is simply amazing
Amazing Music!!
Brilliant!
Yes, he is a complete drummer.
Drummers like Steve Smith should be demoing your cymbals, instead of some dude in a compressed mix where it all sounds the same
incredible
Guys! Check Steve's interview at our channel!
Sensacional !!!
excellent sound
The intro reminds me of Tony Williams Lifetime with John McLaughlin and Larry Young
This is so goddamn good I can't stand it.
Yaaa Tony! Just like jimmy!!
こりゃすげーや。勉強になりました。
Happy to be the first comment to say: "Yeah cats!"
Energy and control. Not an easy blend to master.
Legend
Groovy!
man that lick at like 3::18! Whew!
9:55 ¡¡¡wow rock and roll john bonhan break...!!!!
Don’t stop...believing.
wow..
Man - l ALWAYS KNEW STEVE SMITH had “IT” - but GEEZUS - he can SWANG LIKE A BIG BITCH TOO!!! God bless ‘em... incredible.
Самый лучший Стив Смит !!!
good
Professor X playing drums!
I was thinking Walter White
He looks emaciated.
I agree, hope his health is okay
Sticksmanship highest order
right around 1:29 for a minute or 2 it reminds me of the Ten Years after Undead album, But once these guy kick it into gear it no longer does
The guy is a monster .. notice how 'easy' he plays ..
anyone hearing through headphones? how the hell the mixing engineer panned this guitar? Seems to be coming from behind and far right
can someone explain the fill/ cross over at 6:37?
God on dums
Do you even flam, bruh?
This should be on a t-shirt.
Gee do ya think Steve learned anything in drum corps?
well I guess Steve Smith can play
first?
Kind of a tasteless use of double bass at the end, but not entirely unexpected either.
Steve Smith is the excellence of execution. I had the privilege of seeing him up close. I about melted in my seat!!! Lol
Tasteless... Are you serious
although he is very good and maybe even exceptional, his solo sound like a practice session, there is no train of thought just a string of practiced routines
This song was in a march style, so his solo was very much like a classic drumline.
He has a bucket load of tricks from the vast practice he's done so he shows it...
The only thing I can say about this video is....I still hate offset lugs on any kit
Steve Smith is amazing but what he tried with Journey is a bit skeevy.
