It also blows me away, that he can play so solid and rigid, and then, yet turn into a jazz drummer with so much sway, which I know is one of the reasons he’s probably called the chameleon
My brother Ty was at a Zildian Day in Hollywood in the mid 80’d and Dennis Chambers was on stage and Vinnie and Jeff Porcaro were sitting together and started ragging on Dennis asking if that was as fast as he could go and all of a sudden Dennis did one of his signature fast forward solos and blew the room away! Legend!
Yes. The police had such a massive influence on music by this point in the 80s, their style had seeped into everybodies playing. Even that up tempo eight note groove with the space in the bass drum part. The sequencer part is typical 80s tv soundtrack fusion but there is a definate Police influence in the groove. I imagine at that time producers would ask Vinnie to play like Stewart in sessions, so he had to get that style down.
I don't know why the bass riff makes me laugh so hard. It just sounds like Victor Wooten if he was on drugs. Sounds awesome with the drums of course, because it's Vinnie.
Amazing Maestro- wow, he really did have his throne set low. Creates upward reach for the arms from sitting position. Wonder if he varied btw heel up/down.
Corny music to start out with, I would like to hear Vinnie talk about how best to play songs musically when as a drummer it feels like practicing keeping time. Wow if you keep watching some one asks how he approached playing (odd) time and the example played is superb for showing students how to play musically
Only Vinnie can play insane chops on 80's porn music
I came for the porn music and stayed for the drums...
This was the video that got me into Vinnie and it’s still probably my favorite. I love the whole body of work, this still just hits so hard 💪
Wow, Vinny when he was playing matched grip. This is the around the time I got into him.
So damn clean, it's ridiculous. No Quantization, kids.
Do you think he is playing the solo in time without having a click track?
Definitely a click, or at least using the synth as his click but his hits are so lined up well with the click, that alone amazes me

Que tiene que ver el clic eso es algo que se siente , el click es el corazón, The music ..
Weird Al was a sick drummer!

Pinnacle of modern drumming
..more than a hint of Copeland in those opening stanzas..

If I can get just this much of his chops, I would be more than happy!
80s Yamaha kit... 😍

His grip is so loose! What control! And that fill at 4:12 is… is… I just can’t even
Yeah! It has that Copeland vibe like the snare fill on the outro of Every little thing she does is Magic.
A lot better once the music drops out haha!
Yeah!
No! Love those 80’s sequencers.
The "music" is pretty fire, also why don't you consider the drum solo music????
@@timpicard4222 Because you need melody and/or harmony for something to be considered music.
Yea , all I can say 😅
The only thing missing is some Simmons pads.
28 or 29 years old.
Queue the 80's porn music!
He grooved the shit out of it
That dude who yelled “play it” is the reason Vinnie doesn’t do clinics and videos
