Based on this video I bought an X-H1. I love it. I'm able to shoot sports and get more keeper photos than the Canon 6D and 80D I was using. This video was VERY helpful for me because it was, as far as I can tell, the first video to show me how fast the camera can shoot and them show me the frames that were taken based on the video from the viewfinder. I cannot say how helpful and definitive I found this video to me. Thank you!
Finaly! I went through so many explanations of af customs setings for afc, but this one is definitly the most useful for me. Perfectly explained and suported with practical examples. That is the way it should be covered. Thx!
Thank you. It would be great to see a more extensive AF-C tutorial covering these modes and how they are intended to be used with the various focus modes. Are there known pairings for common situations? Are there pairings to avoid? I know most of my X-H1 backwards and forward and love it, but I’ve had very little success using AF-C. The manual is light on the topic, and tracking seems very finicky, never behaving as I expect. It’s just not intuitive if you don’t come from a background of this type of shooting, but want to learn it.
Joe Rivera I totally agree, I have had very good results with af-s and Manual focus but damn af-c I feel like I'm never in the right mode and I miss a lot of shots. I used to have a Nikon with just one mode and it worked well 95% the time. That's the only place where I miss my old Nikon
It is great to see a demonstration of the settings being used. More like this please. Just curious why you used Fn3 for the AF options versus just setting it to all and pressing on the joystick to select single versus zone?
Bought a used XH1 from one of the top used online retailers. Went out today with the 35mm 1.4 with my son to the playground. Not one single image was in focus when he was moving while the camera was in continuous focus mode. The was a lot of focus hunting going on when he was barely even moving. Is this an issue with the lens or did I get a bad body?
My xh-1 in continuous autofocus is not doing so well, frankly, when I want to capture my dog that runs towards me. I have tried with all possible settings for AF, but it always disappoints me. My nikon D4s and nikon D500 did much better in this area, almost perfect even. Unfortunately I have sold my nikon gear to buy into the fuji system. I have almost all fuji lenses, also the 90mm f2.0 and the 55-140mm f2.8 are in my colection, but also with these lenses my xh-1 disappoints for fast continuous autofocus. I have also tried using a friend's fuji xt3, which is better, but still not at all at my nikons level. Another friend of mine has the sony system, the a9 body and that is almost perfect. With the Sony gear I have almost no mistakes when I capture my dog walking towards me at full speed on photo. I really hope that when Fuji releases the xh-2, it has a continuous autofocus at the level of the sony. I love my fuji xh-1 and xt-2 and my fuji lenses for stills, but for moving subjects like fast dogs, fuji is quite disappointing.
Great video. The XH1 seems like it's really good as a sports camera judging by how well it tracked such a low contrast subject moving very quickly. I have a 50-140 and I'm considering getting the XH1 or XT3 for shooting sports like basketball and (American) football. Would the XT3 be better AF continuous than this?
Thanks for asking. Due in part to the quad-core processor, and other improvements over the X-H1, the X-T3 will have better performance in continuous AF.
Thanks for asking. Seeing as there is generally not a lot of movement in those situations, you can probably use the default setting. However, it is worth trying some of the options to determine what works best for your style.
Thank you for the info. I have a quick question please. Is it possible to refocus in manual mode using AF ON function while recording video? The same question goes for touchscreen AF, is it possible to refocus using touchscreen while recording video? I know it is possible to do all that before starting the video, but once I am recording, I am unable to refocus using touchscreen, nor AF ON button, with my fuji XH1 and have to refocus only manually /in MF mode/. Thank you for the reply.
When in Manual Focus, once you start recording, there is no option to have the camera change the focus point, other than rotating the focus barrel on the lens manually. However, in AF, you can 'pull' focus using the touch screen.
@@fujiguys Thank you. So that means, you either record video in Single Focus mode using AF ON / touchscreen to refocus and then also you can manually adjust focus when you turn AF/MF adjustment. If you mean ES (Electronic Shutter), that will allow shutter speeds as fast as 1/32,000 second, versus the 1/4,000 second fastest shutter speed with MS (Mechanical Shutter).

So AF-C Custom Settings, looks like the 3 you used all had great results.

In order to use the AF-C functions, you do need to turn the AF switch on the front of the camera to C.

The X-T2 and X-T3 will operate in a similar fashion, with a big difference being the X-T2 does not have a touch LCD screen.
Great, but what about AF-C in video mode? Function buttons can't be set in the same way as in photo mode.

@@fujiguys I meant electronic first curtain. EF as that's the mode u have it in...
Using Electronic Front curtain will slightly shorten the lag between fully pressing the shutter button and the image being captured.
